Congratulations to Breanne Mattson!

Reviewed back in March 2014 , her script A Day With Death was subsequently discovered by Asurf Oluseyi and Asurf Films, Ltd. The film was shot in Lagos, Nigeria – bringing terrific cultural flavor to an already charming script.

As of today's writing, Day has been officially nominated for Best Short Film for the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards!  (AMVC).  Not bad at all - fully deserved! For yet more information, the film's Facebook page is available here:  https://www.facebook.com/adaywithdeath

*******

Oh - and then there's Breanne's OTHER amazing news... Her feature length thriller Warning Shot has now officially cast Hollywood fav Bruce Dern in a pivotal role.  Here's what the press has to say: The character-driven drama/thriller Warning Shot starts filming in Los Angeles in early 2016 with Bruce Dern heading its cast. The project was brought to Dern by veteran Casting Director John Jackson, known for his work on the award winning films The Descendants and Nebraska. Dern, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the film Nebraska, can also be seen this December in Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. In Warning Shot, Dern will play a dying businessman whose legacy is in jeopardy.

The story centers on a single mother and her young daughter struggling to make ends meet until they inherit a farmhouse. When a family business rival sends armed men to take the water rights to the farm's creek by force, the situation spirals out of control.

Written by Breanne Mattson, the script was a Nicholl quarterfinalist in 2011. Dustin Fairbanks will make his feature debut as director with Ross Otterman (Gutshot Straight, Excision) producing. Executive Producing is DJ Dodd, whose film 10,000 Saints premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.

But WAIT - THERE'S MORE!  (Oh so much, much more...) Directors in search of their next big thing should be aware that Breanne’s got more shorts available. Reposted for your consideration, please find The End in Sight – a gritty crime thriller by Ms. Mattson that’s just aching for the right producer to see it, er, visualized...

The End in Sight

A hired killer tries to finish one last job before going blind.

A bad guy with a soft spot – looking to do something right after a lifetime of mistakes…  What the heck is it about characters like this that captures the imagination?  Because they do. Every time.  They’re just so… more interesting than vanilla good guys. Hit men especially.  Watch the Professional or In Bruges, and dare to disagree.

The End in Sight is a short script that “hits” that exact note perfectly.  Enter Hugo – the consummate hit man.  He’s killed efficiently all his life. Now – unfortunately – he’s going blind.  Which, one could imagine, is really bad ju-ju for a man who relies on visual acuity…

Hugo’s trying to finish one last job before he retires: kill a gangster, and return a wayward prostitute, Winter, to a rival pimp named Skarda.  Needless to say – things get emotionally complicated and go horribly wrong.  Given the setup, this could have been a cliche script.  But The End in Sight does things right; pulling out twists and character beats that make the whole trip worthwhile. So if crime and thrillers are your forte, crack this one open. It’s got a killer ending…

About the writer: Breanne Mattson is no stranger to accolades.  Her feature lengths have made Nicholl Quarterfinalist three times (yeah, that’s three times, beeyotch!) She’s also made semi-finalist in Bluecat, Final Draft and honorable mention in TrackingB.  She’s also received a “worth the read” from Scriptshadow.  Her website can be viewed at http://www.breannemattson.com (IMDB credits here.)

Pages: 35

Budget: Okay. This one’s no “newbie” script.  Thirty five pages long, it features plenty o’ squibs and bullet hits,  stunt car driving, and both inside and outside locations.  But in experienced hands, this script could be amazing.

No surprises here.  Absolutely fantastic!   Breanne. I've always been one of your biggest fans.

I can't wait to see the film.

Brilliant news.

I have come think that having anything filmed is a great outcome, but there is a big difference between the filming of  a short, and the filming of a feature with known actors. Great stuff, and well done.

Thanks everyone. Imagine my surprise when I saw the thread title.

This is a case of an indie production growing and growing until we were able to reach some well known actors. I'm very grateful for all the people who have come on to this project. It's been an amazing experience so far.

Congrats Breanne. Wish you all the best.

This might be construed as somewhat of a rude question, but did you sell your script? Did the producers pay you money for it, or did they promise backend points, something like that?

Just curious. I hope you got paid good money for your hard work.

I understand your curiosity, but I'm not at liberty to discuss the film's finances. Maybe down the road when we're all telling stories about the making of the film, but right now it's just too early.

Congrats, Breanne! Doesn't seem like the first time, right? I remember you were making a movie, then you had a few that were optioned, then one was received well at Carson's....

But that's impressive anyway. Nice!!!

Yeah, seems like projects are always looking hopeful then fizzling. That's the way this business is. Every now and then, though, something will go somewhere.

Apologies, Breanne. I've admittedly glanced over this thread several times stopping in and out of the boards. Congrats on your success with both A Day With Death and Warning Shot (I still remember reading Warning Shot several years ago, believe it or not). You deserve it, and I hope to see you succeed even further in the future.

Thanks Mark. I've said this before, but I still believe SS is the best stomping ground on the internet for new screenwriters. I hope to see this site get more of the recognition I think it deserves.

And thank you too James. I 'm flattered you remember reading it. Your input was invaluable.

Hey Breanne,
I'm very happy for you.  It's always nice to see a really good person get some justice for their writing skills!  You're a quality writer but, you're a BETTER person.  You deserve all the breaks you get.

I agree with you.  This site is amazing.  The people are tough but fair.  And as I've said a few times over, but, I'd rather hear the comments on how to be a better writer on here and by extension, get better and help others get better, so we all get better, then to hear it from a paid agency or (worst case scenario) hear it from a person that has the power to buy my script  but passes on it for reasons that others said on this site.

I have made a ton of mistakes in life, but, finding this site was one of the best things that I've ever done.

I know my health keeps me on the sidelines mostly for now, but, I consider people like you and several others (you know who you are) as friends of mine.  I'd love to write a story with any of you!!

Congrats again Breanne!

Dan

Please read my scripts:

I'm interested in reading animation, horror, sci fy, suspense, fantasy, and anything that is good.  I enjoy writing the same.  Looking to team with anyone!

Thanks
