I agree. I had some new writers lined up to give the last one a shot, but they didn't want to do a feature. I'm not knocking the 7WC, I understand the value of that. I do think the OWC is a great way to build the site, though. I'm in the middle of a feature, but I'll throw my hat in the ring if I can.
Why not have Jeff in charge? It might take some pressure off one of the Mods that would have to take time away from their lives to set one up. Showing some initiative might very well be seen in a positive light. I'll still be on the fence until I see a genre and topic, however. But, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in seeing another OWC. =)
As most of you know, I am so anti-democratic / anti-mob rule that whenever these kinds of 'lets all vote on what Don should do', I do the opposite even at the expense of the site.
However, since Jeff has been such a fucking thorn in my side over the last few years, I thought, "let's just try this and see what happens."
So, on Friday, 5th of July the topic will be announced. Scripts will be due on Friday July 12th at 11:59 pm edt.
So, is OWC you have to write it in less than a week?
Anyways, I'm in. I didn't take part in the last WC because I didn't like the topic. If the theme is something I think would be challenging for me/interest me, I'll surely take part. And I trust Jeff to come up with something very... creative... haha!

I turned on CNN...crowds, fireworks, revolution...it must have really happened!
AP NEWSWIRE - 7/3/13 1:59 PM MST - It is now official, Simply Scripts will host the first ever Dreamscale OWC, beginning Friday, 7/5. The turnout is expected to be monstrous.
Those faint of heart may need to schedule a quick visit to their MD, as it's likely this OWC will push the envelope and not fall into the G or PG rated category.
Prepare for the biggest, baddest OWC ever to grace the hallowed halls of SS.
You're all going to either love it, like it, dislike it, or hate it. That much we can count on. Everything else is up in the air.
Admittedly, I was just keeping expectations in check. Some say it's going to be the best thing ever, you obviously need someone to be negative so people will be pleasantly surprised at its awesomeness. =)
I'm seriously hoping and assuming that every single person who's posted on this thread will be in, including Don (have to throw it out there!).
It'll be fun and I think we all need a chance to whip something out...oops...wait a minute. Did I just say that? Sorry. OK, as I was saying, this will be fun and I hope you guys and especially The Don likes my idea. It'll be both simple in its opendedness, yet challenging in its parameters. A little research may be required for some, and appreciated by all.
I'll work out the details with Don, and we'll hopefully get this started Friday at midnight.
All are welcomed and appreciated. Hoping some of the new faces in SS will join in on the fun, as it's a great way to get "initiated" and meet lots of cool peeps.
...to throw your hard earned website completely down the shitter and loose all credibility whatsoever?
I would rather leave a half retarded chimp in charge of my banana collection than have Jeff anywhere near anything remotely close to an authoritative position unless it were to test jump previously failed bungee cords over a piranha pond.
I might take a stab at this if I have time and the challenge is good though I haven't done an OWC in ages. Something always ends up happening, it seems.
Jeff, I'm very interested to see what you come up with. I was actually ready to jump on the nominating wagon before Don confirmed you were in. Had this strange gut feeling you might actually pull this off...
...there's some pressure for you. Don't fail, okay?
Yeah, will be good to do some writing again. The family have been away for the last 2 weeks, so I've been watching the first 3 seasons of the Shield, and playing online games like LOTRO and Fallen Earth.
Hopefully the challenge requirements won't be based on Jeff's life experiences.
Imagine reading 40 scripts involving Arizona livestock, tubs of vaseline, armchair legs and a drunken Packers defensive line...
Glad to see you win the controls on one. You remember the bad part though, right? Those who pick the genre and theme don't partake in an entry. Only to be fair!
Because you would pick a slasher on top of some ski resort. Then I would call bullshit.
For me, I cannot wait to watch Jeff try to keep his OWC threads on topic.
I am looking forward to being a spectator -- basking in the schadenfreude as things spiral out of control while Jeff struggles to herd kittens with all of you smartasses.
Hell, I may even get drunk and pick a fight with somebody.
A loud and booming voice told me I didn't have a choice, and I could have sworn I heard the distinctive rustle of a well-armed ninja hedge behind me, so I guess I'm in no matter what.
If there are Cheetah warthogs involved I'll consider it.

I'm curious to find out the theme and genre. Unfortunately, I won't be participating in submitting material but I would read as much as possible.
Good luck to you Jeff and all the other contestants.

Pia, you Angry Bear. You will..I repeat, YOU WILL PARTAKE or I will hunt you down and make you drink Michelob Ultra beer. Wait a minute...make you? That's funny...
I'll make you drink Jagermeister. How's that? You scared now?

I'm just worried that there's going to be a new member named DreamBush or JeffScale that submits an amazing script that fits perfectly with the criteria about a Jagermeister connoisseur who justifiably insults "writers" that think their shit doesn't stink.
Ok time to guess what Bushy baby is going to go for.
Best guesses??
Whilst I don't really do horror, I feel it would be a fitting genre for this challenge bearing in mind the newly appointed mod for this OWC. With one eye on trying to get something produced a lowish budget theme is also handy.
Ok, I'll go for a sports theme killer (gosh, where did I get that inspiration from?)
Look forward seeing what it's all about tomorrow morning.

When the world supply of star anise, is ravaged by a new breed of spice crazed Zombie, an elite Jagermeister connoisseur must recruit a tribe of scantily clad Amazonian beauties to defeat the mindless horde.
Contains strong language, product placement and gratuitous nudity.
There must be a cameraman and dogs with arrows up their anus. Also, all scripts will be named "ass in the moonlight" and must feature this line somewhere, both in dialogue and action.
Being serious though, I doubt it will be set in the past few decades.
I cannot reveal any details except it's very open ended, will require research for some, and be difficult with the elements we have to work with. Attention to detail will be very important.
I predict each entry will be unique, as there are choices to make and each will choose different things.
NO GIVING YOUR SCRIPT TO SOMEONE TO READ PRIOR TO SUBMITTING!!!!
This is 100% anonymous and is intended to stay that way throughout the challenge.
Info will be coming in approximately 10 hours, unless Don feels like releasing it early.
I think it will be a fun challenge and is geared to force some out of their comfort zone, and also learn to become a better writer, based on the challenge requirements.

Yeah, I can't pay attention to a thing being said here any more. I'm stuck on those 5 stars below Jeff's name, and the words "Board Moderator" beaming at me like the finger of God stabbing at my very soul.
I'm waiting to spot the four Horsemen outside my window. Any second now.
I'm waiting to spot the four Horsemen outside my window. Any second now.
Except the modern Four Horsemen would be a hot pink Ford Mustang with 23" rims, a parade float carrying the Indianapolis Colts, a Budweiser delivery truck being pulled by a bunch of Clydesdales and a white Ford Bronco inching forward at a snail's pace...
I see scripts are due July 19th. So really it's a two week challenge. Hmm...

Where does it say this is a 2WC? It's supposed to be a standard OWC.
Well, details come out today and the entries aren't due until July 19th (14 days away). That seems like a 2WC.

Sounds like a contest that could appeal to a lot of people. Some good ideas can come from this. I think I'm going to step out, though. It's just not quite working for me, but it'll be interesting to see what you guys come up with. =)
