But, first a few words.  Seventeen first ten pages were submitted.  Six weeks later, nine scripts were submitted by the deadline.  What I am going to do is to feature each of the nine scripts, one each evening (edt), for the next nine days on SimplyScripts.com.  If you didn't meet the deadline, please continue plugging away and submit your work.

For those of you who've forgotten:

Genre:  Thriller
Theme:  Male lead about 50 years old. Race against the clock.

The Gist: This is a theme that I've seen across several production company 'looking for scripts' requests.  Assume a male actor in his 50's, in good physical shape, is looking for a mid to high budget "Race-Against-The-Clock Thriller"

Remnant by Chris Shalom - Thriller - A drifter helps a woman travel through a post-capitalist wasteland to recover her stolen child, but her peaceful goals eventually clash with his own hidden agenda against the futuristic society responsible for the kidnapping. - pdf, format

A Time to Forget by Eric Wall (EWall433) - Thriller - An assassin’s memory is erased in preparation for a hit on the President of Palestine, but when he begins to question his employer’s motives, his mission turns into a race against time to discover his true identity. 112 pages - pdf, format

A Journalist's Riposte by Arty Whale (ArtyDoubleYou) - Thriller - A journalist must fight his way through a team of deadly mercenaries, all while trying to figure out not only why they want him dead, but their more sinister of intentions. 100 pages - pdf, format

Vow to Kill by Daniel Viau (Last Fountain) - Thriller - A former intelligence agent, who has finally rebuilt his life after tragedy, is thrust into action on the day of his wedding. A madman forces him into a dangerous mission somehow revolving around 9/11. 97 pages - pdf, format

Manhunt by Marcello Degliuomini (Reel-Truth) - Thriller - A man who has spent his life taking down scores, must break out of prison to settle an old one. Before a malicious ex partner kidnaps
his son in an attempt to retrieve the loot from their last job. 92 pages - pdf, format

Slo Mo by Dustin Bowcott - Thriller - A mysterious man, seeing things in slow motion and suffering from amnesia after being shot in the head, attempts to figure out why someone wants him dead. 84 pages - pdf, format

The Killing Lottery: Change (First episode) by Alexander Brauck (PrussianMosby) - Thriller - In a world of nuclear deterrence, which had led to a revolutionary UN-constitution about an official killing exchange, a team of killers has to cross the Chinese Taklamakan desert to fight a man thrown on the market by a powerful bookmaker. - pdf, format

The Bunker by Dena McKinnon (pale yellow) - Thriller - When a family shares their bomb shelter with a mysterious couple during a disaster, they learn the danger within might be worse than the danger without. 100 pages - pdf, format

Deep in the Bone by Richard D. Kinsella (Scar Tissue Films) - Thriller - When only a bone marrow transplant can save his dying son and the only compatible donor is the son of a violent drug lord, a Doctor realises he will have to break the law,and every one of his morals, in a deadly race against time to try and save him. 93 pages - pdf, format

Shadow Games by Lee Cordner (Leegion) - Thriller - A sadistic psychopath kidnaps a man's family and turns him into his own personal weapon. 90 pages - pdf, format

I wanted to give each script a good amount of time for folks to read.

And. Eastern Daylight Time. New York is in edt.

Congrats, Dustin! Haven't really followed the WC this time around, hopefully I can download some for the road.

@ Don, I'm a fan. Thanks for being so committed toward our professional goals as writers, this 7WC proves that. Should make for some exciting, marketable material for sure.

I think this is a good idea...I will be able to read one a day rather than feel overwhelmed with 9 features!

Thank you Don for all the work you do here!

Oh. I thought Lee was too busy with his epic universe. Deity like status must be time consuming. I've only got a small field with a coupla animals in it. Yes I do. But I have! And that takes up most of the day. Where was I? Oh yes, I was over here... And I thought it was still anonymous. The OWC I mean, not my field. She's called Betty. This isn't the time or place to go into why. That'd be the snug at the Hairy Dog on a Tuesday night over some lager. Oh. I'm lost again. Hang on.

It probably is still anonymous. The OWC I mean. Not the pub. I've already done that bit.

Apart from those who outed themselves. Named themselves, I mean. I don't if they're gay. Not all of them. Or even any of them. Well, maybe one or two. Which is fine. If it floats your boat and shifts yer ship.

Erm. I think we've all learned something here today. I'm not sure what it is. But it can't hurt. And I didn't once mention the futility of life in a finite universe or the fact it's just a brief glimmer of light between two huge slabs of darkness. It's a bit early for that kind of thing.

Well done to all who entered.

Does this mean folks have at least eight days to wrap it up the first drafts? Do we submit them for this section or to the thrillers section?

Update: to be clear, the nine who met the deadline will be featured on the home page. If you didn't make the deadline, a job finished will be it's own reward.

Hey Pia,

I shall add yours to the top of my 'to read' lists when I get home. Do you want me to read the version currently posted, or wait for you to make the changes based on the feedback you have already received?

And congrats to your son!

Mine is not posted here. I wasn't supposed to take part at all, but for awhile, it looked like maybe no one would enter anything so I went ahead and wrote something. I did miss the entry deadline because I was away at my son's wedding, so my script won't be included here. It was written for this challenge though.

I can email it to you?

Where is yours?

Well I've read the 8 scripts, other than my own, from the original 9. Obligation paid. Any others will have to read mine if they would like one back.

Thanks for the contest. I'm going to adapt the idea from this script into another script I have planned, so it's been a great exercise.

That's GREAT Dustin! That's how it should be done! Congratulations and hopefully someone will notice your script. Sometimes, filmmakers notice the writer for their work and hire them for other writing jobs.

I mentioned a couple of times that I didn't have time to read all 9 so I would only read for a swap. Only Dena and Rick took me up on that. As well as JimiLamp, even though he didn't enter anything. I'm currently re-writing mine.

I'm glad I entered.

The challenge nature of it definitely helped me get to the finish line. I'll definitely be in the next one, which I hope we won't have to wait too long for.

Still waiting for that script, Pia.

Thanks Rick!

I'm still rewriting using Dena's notes and what I got from Screenplay Readers. A producer is waiting for the script asap. Same producer I steered towards yours btw. Let me know if you hear anything.

Yeah, I've had that happen a few times already. Most of them just guys starting out or with slim experience, forming producer/director/writer teams to approach exec's with their script ideas. I wrote three feature scripts like that and none of them have gone anywhere.

However, recently, I met someone fairly influential and have been commissioned to adapt an autobiography for a film with a £4 million budget.

It's only one film though, so I'm always open to writing whatever comes my way.

I've got enough reads on this script and over all I'm pleased with what I achieved. Good luck with your own script, Pia.

I've also just finished my reads of the original eight. Will give 'Remnant' a read too if the author reads mine, but I know most people by their screen names and not their real names so you'll have to let me know if you do.

It's been a good experience so far, but mainly I'm just glad I got a first draft of a feature finished. It's interesting to see how it comes across to others, as when you write it it all makes sense to you. I already know how the re-write will go, and I've only had a few reviews.

If any of you have any specific questions about your own scripts that you'd like to ask, things that maybe haven't been brought up already, feel free to PM me your questions and I'll see what I can do.

If the next 7WC takes my fancy, I think I'll give that a shot too.

I'm the author of Remnant (Chris). I'm way behind on my reading -- got a paper proposal due next week and I've been focused on school -- but I'll definitely get to everyone! Enjoyed the first two and am sitting down to the third as soon as I get through my next essay…

This 7WC (or 8, in my case) seems to have gone quite well. Lots of good discussion.
