While waiting to find out who wrote what, any guesses on the inspiration for the fake names?

Pern.
A fictional planet in the universe created by science fiction writer Anne McCaffrey for her Dragonriders of Pern series of novels.

The only thing I was trying to work out was, did you throw all the names in a hat and draw them out or was there a particular pattern?

The names were randomly distributed irrespective of gender.

And, yes.  All the names come from the Dragonriders of Pern series of books by Anne McCaffrey.
