August '07 One Week ChallengeThanks to everyone to participated in the One Week Challenge this month. The OWC isn't a contest, however recognize that as writers, it helps to fill out your CV if you have a contest wins or even are selected as a finalist. Since there were 40 entries and only 35 made it to the challenge, all 35 posted scripts are considered finalist. I asked each of the participants to read three scripts and select the one script they enjoyed the most. Those scripts are listed as "Writer's choice". Three scripts were selected as "Webmaster's Choice" and one script was selected as "iScript Selectee". Thanks everyone for participating. I truly enjoyed reading each and every script submitted. With that being said, Listen to Sean Elwood's (Zombie Sean) Bull Creek. Note: the audio recording is released under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivitives3.0 license. In English that means, you can share it with whomever you wish. Hey, congrats to Sean! Way to go.
As one of the few who actually had a quick peek at "Scary Movie 5" -- but could not bring myself to comment haha -- it is great to see you maturing as a writer.
Best of luck with future projects. |

Congratulations Sean. I really liked it. Maybe you should write more zombieless scripts. |

Congratulations Sean!
And congratulations to everyone who completed the challenge.
I definitely saw some names mentioned here that I thought did extremely well, but you can only have one winner.
I need to go back and read "Bull Creek" again and listen to it on iscript, but what I remember that I think is really good, is the concept of alligators (or was is a crocodile) being where you don't expect them; this special breed.
People have spoken on the boards about cliches and we all know how it can be a real challenge pulling out fresh material even when we're using "tried and true" devices. Without even going back and looking at "Bull Creek" or some of the other scripts which resonated more for me personally, I'd have to say that besides all of the subtle energies that go into a memorable script, the germ which sets it apart is that bit of difference from what's been done before.
Anyways Sean, I hope you celebrate and treat yourself to something.

Congrats there Sean.
I guess Bull Creek is next on my to-read list. I really loved the description in the IScript reading. If I wrote like that when I was your age, I'd be writing Citizen Kane 2 by now.
There's an idea. Citizen Kane 2: Apocalypse!
Congratulations to everyone else as well. |

Thanks everyone. And apart from the clichés, unoriginalism, and lack of zombies, I'm glad yous guys enjoyed it. Oh, and Bert, Scary Movie 5...Well, let's just say that I'm afraid to go back and look at the thread...or the script itself. And Pia, I don't know if I can stray away from zombie scripts. I love them too much, as weird as that sounds... And I want to say congratulations to the Webmaster's Choice and the Writer's Choice and to everyone else! This OWC was fun and I enjoyed reading the scripts and writing my own. Sean |

I fear that the next OWC, if it's horror, will have too many entries to manage.

Congratulations Sean! You did a great job. I liked Bull Creek when I first read it and I admit I was really surprised to find someone so young had written it. Terrific job and congratulations on the selection. You earned it!

Congrats, Sean. Looking forward to listening to the iScript version.
And additional congrats to Bert, who no longer has to claim he's a gynecologist to feel like a doctor. |

Well done Sean! Listened to the iScript version, sounded pretty good. I hadn't read the script earlier so it was fascinating to listen to as my first read. |

Quoted from tomson This isn't really on topic, but since we're all congratulating each other here I thought this would be okay here. If not, then Bert, go ahead and delete it. |
I won't delete it, but this is really Sean's little smile-thread, you know? Let's keep it that way. I appreciate the thoughts, but was trying to keep it kind of low-key. I had no idea Don was going to do that, but I guess it's kind of cool, too.
Bert...no longer has to claim he's a gynecologist to feel like a doctor. |
Cold hands, warm heart -- isn't that what they say? I toyed with changing my screen name to dr. bert, but it just looked too pretentious and I changed it right back. And I had to laugh at dogglebe's comment that "Dr. Phil" was already taken Now go back to congratulating Sean. |
