Yeah, I'm thinking what to do with that. I do know spell casting girls, one woman who got herself a husband that way and another one who was trying to do all kind of harm (still does if those spells work but I saw her working on one myself). Don't want to come across those ladies. Best that would happen - you end up married to one.
Hmm... The more I read about modern witchcraft the more difficult I find it to apply to a horror story - unless, of course, you wanna make the "non-witches" the horrible people. It's kinda like asking us to write a "modern Christian/Jewish/Muslim/etc." horror story.
However, I believe the intent is to craft a neo-Christian "classic witch" story set in a contemporary environment. Easy peazy.
It's a very benign practice. A lot of "healing", "protection", and communing with nature/spirits.
Gypsy witchcraft is huge in Romania. I did some research a while back on the Romany. Witchcraft commercials came to so completely dominate local television advertising that they had to ban them.
And in Africa witchcraft is still a big part of most local belief systems. It's a big problem as innocent people frequently get blamed for practicing witchcraft when anything goes wrong.
And of course there is that place just outside Kansas, right past the rainbow, there some witch rules with the help of an army of flying monkeys.
No "horror" screenplay that's all drama. No "modern" screenplay set in the distant past or future. No "witch(es)" doing non-witch stuff. No <6 or >10 page entries. No writer's names on your PDF.
Remember the "hurricane" submissions that had no hurricane? Pfft. Remember the big budget "low budget" submissions? Dingalings. Remember the 5page pisstakes?
Yeah. I'm paying attention. Thanks for looking out for me, Jeff! Three-fold law, man. I'm adhering to it.
Yeah my mom has a lot of books on Witchcraft and Paganism because she used to love to study that stuff. Used to put a "spell" on my room when I was younger to keep all of the monsters away ahah. She's not Pagan or a witch though, although she failed the witch test in Amsterdam. But we all know when that test was used...
Anyways, so I have a vast wealth of information...
That unfortunately I'm not using at all :/
A bad writer, trying to become decent...
Thank you for all who put up with my work and try and help me improve.

Related somewhat -- my family on my dad's side is Melanesian; my father, in fact, apparently nearly died from a "curse" a couple decades ago, during a dispute with a neighbouring family. Their sorceror had tried to end the dispute by using fatal magic on my father, the chief of his tribe. He was violently ill for days, and increasingly weak, until my family was able to bring in a witch doctor from another island to counter the curse, at which point my father made a miraculous and full recovery...
