A note: If you read the title and are already sharpening your pitchforks and lighting your torches, just give me five minutes, then you can kill me.

____________________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to the October 2018 7 Week Challenge. That's right; seven weeks, not one. Yes, I know that's one of the mainstays of the site is that we always have a horror OWC in October. Whether or not this one turns out well, this will be the only time and I'll make it up to you next time if I haven't been run off the site.

The theme is a golden oldie: Night Gallery. This horror show of the late 1960s (Night Gallery, for anyone who needs a refresher course or is learning about it for the first time) focused on a gallery in its wraparound segments, where it introduced paintings which depicted images related to the plots of the stories.

Now, while I call this the Night Gallery 7WC, it's only meant to be a guide. For your feature scripts, you should create your own Curator, your own paintings and your own original stories. Your feature should contain an introduction sequence, three to five vignettes and a finale for the wraparound (if you would like. The finale is optional).

In addition to all of this, all the stories should be horror derivatives. This means that any kind of horror script is eligible.

I hope you have fun and enjoy yourselves and... if you don't, send all your hate mail to me and I'll be happy to refund you. Good luck, everyone.

T-minus seven weeks until your 7WC script is due.

Topic: Night Gallery.
Genre: Horror (and its sub-genres).

You have seven weeks to write a screenplay of greater than 75 pages. The screenplay must be properly formatted and in PDF format. The scripts are due on Friday, November 2nd at 11:59PM EST and must be submitted to: SimplyScripts.com/7wc.

There will be a Review Page E-mailed to you for you to score the scripts you read. Please only give scores to scripts that you have read.

Timeline:

September 14th at 10:00PM EST - Theme and Genre announced.

November 2nd at 11:59PM EST - Scripts are due.

November 16th at 5:00PM EST - Names and results revealed.

The Rules:

Your script must be a feature length screenplay, done in the style of the TV series, Night Gallery, with between 3-5 horror vignettes and be a minimum of 75 pages long.

Please do not give a score inside the actual script review. Instead, wait until the scorecard is given out. Thank you.

Jargon:

75 or more pages.

Properly formatted & saved as a PDF file.

This isn't a contest. There are no prizes.

Free to submit.

One entry per person.

No pissers, please.

You can revise your script as many times as you wish up until 11:59PM EST on November 2nd.

Participants are strongly encouraged to read and comment/review on the scripts submitted.

Do not put your real name on your script. However, please use your real name when submitting your script. (After the challenge closes you can either have your script removed or resubmit with your script with your name on it.

Please put © on the bottom left corner of your title page.

Best of luck and I hope you guys have a lot of fun with this contest.

Interesting... I have no idea what Night Gallery is but I will check it out.
...

Btw, is this challenge in place of the usual Halloween OWC?  Meaning there won't be one?

Night gallery is a rod sterling show. Kind of a spin off from twilight zone.

I guess this is a replacement of the one week challenge  we normally have.

The golden ratio is used all over in cinematography.  I'm sure I could work something into one of my stories.

You shall have to wait and see.

Now, while I call this the Night Gallery 7WC, it's only meant to be a guide.

In addition to all of this, all the stories should be horror derivatives. This means that any kind of horror script is eligible.

But if I do recall correctly, these contests are usually open to interpretation. lol.

Ah. I'm currently writing the second draft of a feature I'm hoping to enter into several competitions soon, so I'm out. I'd have time for a short owc but not to write another feature. Best of luck to all who enter.

Let's see if we can clear it up one step at a time.

The show, Night Gallery, had a set-up where we were introduced to a gallery which had macabre paintings that went along with what you'd see in the story that came after it. The host, Rod Serling, would introduce three paintings per episode and each painting had a story attached to it.

For your feature-length script, you're doing the same set-up: a host will introduce between three and five paintings (if you do three, I would expect them to be between roughly 22-30 pages each while five would put you closer to 15-20 pages each).

Each story will have the introduction to the painting before it begins and when the story is resolved, we will go back to the gallery to introduce another story.

Here is an example of what the intros were like, but remember, you're not recreating the show, you're creating one of your own.
