Frank, I cannot understand the following:

imo you're too much into that stuff. Can you explain easier and more understandable;;; no offence, Frank.

I don't want to derail the thread. Just type "as you know bob" into your favorite search engine. The trope is most common when how-things-work-around-here need to be explained to the audience. This could be technobabble in a sci-fi story, or why the cops don't do something bloody obvious in a crime drama.

Fortunately for my wraparound concept, having an artsy-type explaining art to other artsy-types is something that actually happens. I just need to avoid him telling them Art 101 stuff, which should be easy enough.

Feature-length scripts:
Who Wants to Be a Princess? (Family)
Glass House (Horror anthology)

TV pilots:
"Kord" (Fantasy)
"Mal Suerte" (Superhero)

Additional scripts are listed here.

Look, this last paragraph is shit. I'm direct, yes. I cannot decipher what you are saying. I'm not within your head. You imo should be more direct and understandable...

If we enter this are we going to be expected to READ every feature? I am rethinking entering because of this. I could read a coupe or even three but I do  not think I could read more than that.

Sorry if my writing wasn't clear. It was fairly context-specific to my particular idea.

I only mentioned the "As You Know, Bob" trope because I was worried that a badly-written curator could end up as an annoying firehose of exposition. At least Rod Serling was breaking the fourth wall... he had a reason to say everything he said.

Sean asked that we only score the scripts we've read, so presumably there's an understanding that reading all of them can be too much of a burden.

Enter and read zero scripts.  That's always the way to go!

I'm out.

What if there are ten entries, Jeff? How many people can read ten features in a couple of weeks and give useful feedback? In the OWC it's obvious a lot of people skim through, but doesn't features deserve a little more attention? When I read a feature, it's usually a minimum of a five hour investment. If there are ten entries, that would mean I should should plan on spending fifty hours to review???

The good thing about this is you could select an episode to read and critique, along with the author's Intro. We've had 7WCs before and I know everybody didn't read each and every entry, more like part thereof. I don't think it should stop you, Dena, if you have a few great outlines.

first logline: When three women awake and find themselves in a one room gallery without any exit, the macabre curator raises his voice to teach them the account for their long hidden guilt.

Writing a feature-length script in a genre way outside of my expertise: Okay, it'll be a learning experience.

Need to come up with a logline: This is impossible! *** Runs screaming as if set on fire ***

Feature-length scripts:
Who Wants to Be a Princess? (Family)
Glass House (Horror anthology)

TV pilots:
"Kord" (Fantasy)
"Mal Suerte" (Superhero)

Hey Frank,
I eventually got what you were saying yesterday. You meant the technical side of painting. Which brushes are best for drawing this and that line, stylistic direction etc., got it now.

Are your painters starters or are they already experienced?

imo Anyway, this has potential. People that like movies, I believe, also like other artwork. The world and routine of painters sounds interesting. I think there's a clear audience for such kind of sophisticated themes.

I think it'd be fair for the curator to say "This is a Pre-Raphealite painting," but not go into detail about what that means. The details aren't that important to the story anyway, but someone watching who actually knows art will immediately think "second half of the 19th Century, rebellious against the art establishment of their day."

Moviegoers are probably more appreciative of the arts than average, but I don't think many of them think of themselves that way. It's possible for a character to appreciate art for its own sake without hitting the audience over the head with it (I like how As Good as It Gets handled it).

For the story, these particular artists are young, but no longer students. There is no one-size-fits-all description for artists-in-residence, but that's what this particular eccentric gazillionaire wants. If it doesn't get in the way of the story, this batch may include the first digital artists admitted by the program. Having a mixture of specialties is a realistic way of preventing them from going off on a tangent discussing some obscure facet of painting.

That's high-concept. Like Saw but with paintings. And maybe a psychological thriller instead of torture porn. Unless, you know, they have to paint their guilt with their own blood...

This is good. I could see it working beyond the challenge. Write it.

When I partook in what I think was the very 1st 7WC, I read every entry and gave very extensive feedback.

When I enter an OWC, I read (or at least attempt to read) every single entry, and leave more feedback than the vast majority does.

Why do I do this?  Because it's the right thing to do.

I'm afraid I'm out on this, although I do like the challenge.

Best of luck to all who enter.

I read all of them too, Jeff. The point of those 6 and 7WC back then was to help writers finish a feature. This time around we're supposed to vote on them which means there's a time limit to do so. I cannot see myself reading 10 feature from here in a month or whatever the time allowed is.
