Coming up with a theme every time gets kind of tricky because there are so many themes out there, aren't there? Unless, of course, the theme is a theme, itself. Of course, this isn't something tangible, but you have enough of that already. Your job is to deal with the theme; positive, negative or indifferent. Good luck and have fun. =)

Theme: "Money is the root of all evil."

Cool!

Congratulations, AJR! You're the lucky winner!

You get to pick whatever you want from the list!

I'll take whatever you don't like. I'm up for a good challenge.

Hopefully Sean doesn't change the teams.

I was laughing my ass off when that one came up, too.

Conz is out on his own?

That was a mis-type. We had 25 in total stay in.

In regards to Conz, I've given him two options. When I hear back from him on his decision, the header will change from "Unofficial" to "Official".

My partner and I have already exchanged several pics of both Legends in various states of attire.

We're working as a team already, and figuring out exactly what the masses want, in terms of epic scripts.

We feel bad already for the vast majority of the teams, as this will be easy pickins and lickins for the 2 Legends.

That is one thing I was hoping to avoid, was people who signed up and never came back. I did prepare for this contingency, as well, though. Because, if a teammate doesn't attempt to get in touch with their teammate by 6PM (EST, -5), tomorrow, they will be removed from the Tournament and, as a result, teams will be condensed.

Is 24 hours after first announcement long enough? I want to give everyone adequate time.

If Vic doesn't turn up Marnie can team up with Conz, right? Long as nobody else pikes.

I'm keeping an eye out in the background. Between work picking up and trying to fulfill my first Kickstarter I am majorly strapped for time. This whole coming weekend will consist of packing 150 or so orders, but I will keep up as best as possible and try bring a passable script to the table, after that I will be all in!

Blondie, 24 hours is more than enough.  If anyone's partner doesn't say shit in that long, they need to be OUT!  Seriously.  Not fair to peeps.

Stevie and I have already written 37 1 pagers that we can turn into GOLD!

My internet folks already broke into Blondie's lists and we know what the possibilities are, so we actually put together this crazy algorithm, that gives us the various possibilities we may get and just let me say, this stuff is pure gold, PURE LEGEND!!!

I was able to get I touch with my partner/opponent. My only complaint is that we’re about fifty-three time zones apart.

Feature-length scripts:
Who Wants to Be a Princess? (Family)
Glass House (Horror anthology)

TV pilots:
"Kord" (Fantasy)
"Mal Suerte" (Superhero)

Additional scripts are listed here.

On every level.

Like the honey bee and the orange blossom.
Like the Dragon capsule and the International Space Station.
Like a really good laptop and super fast Wi-Fi.
Like crazy glue and a small child's fingers.

Totally... connected.

Unfortunately, those writers will be removed. The affected teams will be adjusted. I hope to have everyone's variables available and sent out around 6PM (two hours from now).

My partner and I have already exchanged several pics of both Legends in various states of attire.

We're working as a team already, and figuring out exactly what the masses want, in terms of epic scripts.

We feel bad already for the vast majority of the teams, as this will be easy pickins and lickins for the 2 Legends.

Funny.

Revised teams have been updated on the original post. Good luck to everyone. The lists are being revised to accommodate the reduced number of teams. Good luck to everyone and I hope you all enjoy yourselves.

Not cool  I contacted Barry last night. As for the BS "time limit" of two hours when you started such a timer while I'm away .in dialysis is not cool.

Thanks to Kham for the heads up. I just walked in the door.

All the PMs have been sent. However, there is something that we have to go over. AlsoBen had made it back in before close. As a result, I've paired him with his original teammate, Anthony, and adjusted teammate, Marnie. As a result, the group that he would've been apart of, I randomly pulled five variables from each category and assigned it to that team. As a result, they now have 15 variables for each category, except for genre.

In the case of genre, their team (only) is allowed to use five of their ten genres twice. None of those genres may be used three times. This was the best available compromise and I hope it suits everyone properly. Thank you.

The genre list will be posted on the original thread, for everyone to see.

A few questions some people sent out.

You use one object, location, character and genre per round. No duplicates (with the minor exception of Team 2).

Those numbers that were on some of your lists. That was an oversight on my part that I forgot to delete. Please disregard them. Thank you.

So there is a bucket of objects, a bucket of locations, and a bucket of characters unique to each team, and a bucket of genres that’s the same across all teams. (Except for the one team getting special treatment).

Feature-length scripts:
Who Wants to Be a Princess? (Family)
Glass House (Horror anthology)

TV pilots:
"Kord" (Fantasy)
"Mal Suerte" (Superhero)

Additional scripts are listed here.

Your “log line” is just your selected variables.

I prefer that because I’m always trying to make a logline at the last second.

On the first post in this thread, along with the genre list. The only things to know are that you and your teammate will use one of each genre, object, location, character and the topic each week. No duplicates. You have four days from the time the topic is revealed to complete and submit your script. The logline will simply consist of the variable relating to your script and the topic of the week.

Any other questions, feel free to ask. I'm here all night.

Hey Sean, from the original thread:

The buddy system works as such: writers will be randomly paired together and given the following: a list of 10 (ten) genres, objects, locations and characters, each. Each of those lists are unique to the team (with the exception of genre -- each team will get the same list of 10 genres) and each team member is expected to use one genre, object, location and character per week. These items can only be used once. If these elements are used more than once (as a primary), the script will be disqualified for that round.

What constitutes "use"? Specifically for location? Does it need to take place wholly at that location? Or is partially enough?

Partially is fine, but it should play a factor in the story.

The list makes for an interesting problem... pick the harder choices but ensure you have a solid way to use them or pick the easier ones and be absolutely screwed at the end... hmm.

Either way, I think you've designed a pretty good challenge for us, Sean

I just entered all the 4 groups into a random name picker and the ones that came out actually fitted together well. I think be easier doing it this way as you are focused on those variables straight up and not overthinking it   Works for me lol like the old OWC’s that had really detailed and cool criteria

Yes!!!   The 2010 Halloween one:  three peeps (one had to be a sausage wallet), one in a wheelchair, an abandoned house and a storm but no fire on Halloween eve.  The scripts were brilliant

I know I'm pretty dumb, and after numerous drinks and a few other things, I'm actually very confused.

based on the initial parameters, which were just posted, which I'm not going to repost, it appears to me that as long as both partners use 5 different "things" from each choice, they're golden.

Basically, I'm saying unless I am too schlammied, I don't see where it says, all 10 of each category must be used by each team.

Help me out here, SS'ers!!!

Each team member will use 1 genre, object, location, character plus the theme per week. Once any variable has been used, it can't be used again. This will cause all 10 to be used.

Waiting on the topic. 2 and a half hours.

It is tough as only a couple of the variables will fit in a Western for example.  Then you have to write a script with them.  Pretty damn cool really lol

Blondie, does a Western have to be a period piece in the 1800’s? Or could be a modern type Western like theYellowstone series?

Yes. The ideas of the genres are the themes of the genre. You know, the way every John Carpenter movie is a western. Lol.

Can if you want. One of my favorite genres is the western, but I don't like westerns. I just love their themes and modern westerns usually appeal.

I’m sure Sean has something very specific in mind, but suppose the topic was “career change.”

You rummage through your hypothetical lists and pull out basketball player, baseball bat, lawyer’s office, and crime . Something is going to go very wrong with the contract signing.

Just a off-the-cuff example.

Feature-length scripts:
Who Wants to Be a Princess? (Family)
Glass House (Horror anthology)

TV pilots:
"Kord" (Fantasy)
"Mal Suerte" (Superhero)

Additional scripts are listed here.

So, back from the dentist, back to the drawing board.

And the theme has been announced:

Let's just say I'm glad the theme changes every week.

Well...I can see one of the challenges will be time zone. Touched base with Anthony but only to say hi. Haven't talked to Ben but Anthony did. I think were gonna get a late start. When is the deadline? I looked but couldn't find it.

Marnie, quoting Blondie:

Deadline for week 1 scripts?

11:59PM EDT Monday.

For (you) Us in Oz, Ben is Aussie)

1:59PM Tuesday. That's for Sydney, best I can do.

UK time for Anthony I think would be 5am but don't quote me on that one.

I had questioned world time zone, and was told it'll not be a problem! With that, I signed-up.

Now... I have been removed from the list. Because, I was given a TWO HOUR notice to respond, this while I was asleep in South Africa. USA Midnight is 7am here in SA.

Mr Blonde had sent me an email telling me I have not made contact with my partner (Darren). And I now have two hours to respond (Now I'm in bed asleep)

Yet, me and my partner had made contact!

01 July - 10:25pm. Darren emails me, making contact.
02 July - 1:40am. I reply to Darren, make contact.
02 July - 1:09pm. Mr Blonde emails me (as mentioned above)
02 July - 3-19pm. Darren POST hereto, to says that WE HAVE made contact. He even commented NOT COOL!
03 July - 1-10am (My 8am) I wake up looking forward to getting started.. And POOF! my name is removed.

Not cool.

I've indeed touched base with Marnie and Ben, but Ben hasn't seen/responded since initial contact so the timezone and comms piece may be an issue going forward... though may be we need to follow suite and pre-agree things which I'm guessing is what Warren and Libby have done.

Blondie - BarryJohn is in similar timezone to me... happy to swap round if it help and partner him to let him back in? I've PMd you too.

I have made contact with john - we should be fine.

Do we need to confirm anything with Mr Blonde in advance of the script entry?

Also, it may be me, but when are the scripts due? I can’t see anything.

Inner Journey - Page Awards Finalist - Bluecat semi final

Not cool.

Don't panic, BarryJohn, when Sean (Mr Blonde) is awake he'll see this or you can PM him.

Yep, we're a very chilled team... so far. Although honestly, I jumped the gun before topic announcement. But then we're still chilled.   Don't know when it comes to writing the thing though... Me, that is.
Very cool of you re your suggestion with BJ too. We'll see what Blondie says.

While Blondie's still catching 40 winks...

Well, we need to post our Agreement. I'll search and see what that entails but from memory I think it's just - we are in agreement.

As for deadline: I copied and pasted this from Sean:

Quoting Blondie:

Deadline for week 1 scripts?

11:59PM EDT Monday. U.S.

For us in Oz,:

1:59PM Tuesday. That's for Sydney, best I can do.

This from me:

UK time, I think would be 5am but don't quote me on that one. This tbc.

Hi All.

Thanks to all to try get me back in... It's not fair to the now partners, to now keep changing them around. I'm also now too despondent.

Good luck to you all.

On Friday, July 3rd, at 12:00AM, the topic for that week will be provided. Writers can start writing at any time, so long as they agree on the elements they choose.

Both partners are expected to post in the Agreement thread, simply, that they have reached an agreement. No details.

N.B. No details.

Ok, daft question but...what date?

Are we talking this Monday coming, 6th, which give me 3/4 days, or the week after?

Many thanks

Are you the same as London time, Bill?

If so:

Tuesday, 7 July 2020 at 5:00:00 am     BST

I'm pretty sure this is right.
We get a bit of extra time this go around cause of U.S. July 4 festivities.

My group is communicating now about genre preferences - but I have NO IDEA what we're aiming to achieve in agreement. Can someone help me?

And can we please take into account time zones? I'm Queensland Australia time and I also work  full time professional job that is infamously time consuming./exhausting (no excuses - just trying to explain why you're getting messages from me at odd hours)

Thanks babies

Blondie, re: location, does it ALL have to take place there, or can it be just the prominent setting? Or is it that it just has to be "a" setting among many others?

I can't speak for Blondie, I can only reiterate what his instructions were:
Pick from the list - object, location, character, genre, and take into consideration the overall theme.

We didn't have a big conversation - Warren just said over to you (this week) and then next week he gets first dibs.
I know there's three of you but you've got more choices in the bag, right? I think too many conversations about genre preferences might lead to you guys losing valuable time. You're going to have to cover genres you don't particularly lean towards either way.

You might have to elect a Captain and draw out of a hat if you can't agree.

The deadline for us Aussies is: 1:59PM Tuesday 7th.

I elected myself captain! Lol. Genres have been assigned. But our issue is going to be time zones. Waiting for ant to choose first this week, then ben, then me...but 3 people in 3 different time zones...ugh.

^ Of course you did, Marnie. After all we girls do make the best leaders.   Only NZ has caught onto that so far, oh, and Germany. Wow, you assigned genres? I hadn't even thought of doing that.

I'll leave it to Blondie to say anymore on the time-zone issues.

Well I figured the one advantage we had being 3 was more wiggle room with the 10 genres. So we each listed from fave to least fave to see where we stood and we all ended up with genres we're comfy with, and 5 reserve. Now just waiting for week one choices.

Tactical move, Marnie.   There's nothing to say in the rules how we all get to the point of agreement. You lot so far are playing to your strengths. It will be interesting to see how it pans out in the end.

The main bugbear of mine at the moment is the theme, and working that in. I hope the themes appeal more as we go on.

You're agreeing to only use one variable in each category, each week. No duplicates.

You know, I tried taking time zones into account. But, when the people who entered had accounted for about 16 of the possible 24 time zones, what did people think was going to happen?

We discussed this already. No, it doesn't all have to take place there, but it should be prominently featured.

What about the time zones? Honestly, I already don't care. This whole thing became a disaster and it hasn't even been going for half a day, yet.

If you don't like your teammate's time zones, take five variables and join up with someone else. I don't care. It doesn't matter to me.

There's no way in hell I'm running this again next year.

It's the partner thing, Sean. It was probably too much. It's 5 elements - a theme, a prop, a character, a genre and a location, and then we have to try to coordinate our schedules with someone, potentially across the globe, during a very difficult time.  It's not like we don't appreciate your efforts; I mean, we're all in it willingly to try to have some fun... but how much is too much?

Week one will be the roughest, but we'll all figure it out. Figure out a happy medium in your time zones for communication. I have 2 partners...one 5 hours ahead of me, the other 14! But we'll git er done.

I think it's a great challenge. Like NYCMM but with a few extra plot twists!

Yeah, you're right. It probably was too much. I figured, with all the people dropping out that the reading problem would take care of itself, but I didn't properly account for the time zones being such a limiting factor.

Still, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. I'd rather it fail after giving an honest effort than not having tried at all.

If it becomes too much for you guys, don't worry about it. Remember, it's all for fun and there are no prizes. If you want to challenge yourselves, save your topics and challenge yourself after the tournament and see if you can pull off a script without the worry of a partner or the time constraint.

Have fun. That's the big takeaway. =)

A quick question. Me and Mark have different ideas on what to use first. Do we both have to agree on genre, item, location, and character type? Just to clarify. We both like each other'suggestions.
I might go with his suggestions.

Short simple version is that you don't use the same variables at any point, You don't have to agree on what the other person uses. You just have to agree that you won't use theirs and they won't use yours.

Romantic comedy is a comedy. Crime is often associated with dramas. I just didn't call it crime drama, in the hopes it wouldn't put people in a box.

Blondie, can you define the fantasy genre?  Say, Lord of the Rings type setting?

Stevie...fantasy is easy...for you...

A 57 year old Aussie continues to fantasize about getting very close and personal with the 49ers football team, in a hot tub, floating from a star, during a whole Earth volcano.

Fairy tales, whimsical, usually family-oriented (not required). That kind of thing.

I googled "top 200 fantasy movies", and Conan came up, Ladyhawk, Highlander, Lord of the Rings, etc.

I wouldn't call fantasy "family oriented" at all.

That's why I said not required. Obviously, there are dark fantasy movies. And, Conan is an action movie. Both of them.

To my group members: I've PMed you hopefully a solution to the problem caused by my ditching the tournament...apologies again to everyone else too, and I wish you all luck.

This just wasn't going to work for me - too complicated for my lizard brain, time zones, and my RIL work has gone insane.

Sorry again! xx

Ben, honestly it's all fine, don't sweat it. Blondie has already been in touch with the other two.

I hope you'll join us sometime in the future for an OWC or WT when things are less hectic for you.

You're always a very entertaining and extremely capable writer.

How figuratively can you take the theme?
I wrote my script and it's very much about the evil that money is. Is it alright not to pound it in the head and not state the theme in the script etc?

Well now you have all the tools you need to participate and write 5 shorts in 5 weeks. I know you're confused about how it works...don't know how else to explain it. Each week a theme is given (this week it's "money is the root of all evil").  You then write a max 5 page incorporating that theme, one of the 5 genres you were given, one of the objects, one character, one location...then cross those off the list because u can only use them one time.

The cool thing about doing this weekly instead of doling everything out in the beginning like we just had to do, is what's left in the last week is the shit no one wanted in previous weeks...like maybe being stuck writing a western incorporating a toenail clipping, strip mall and drag queen.  But whatever...you have everything you need to write 5 scripts and not have to worry about teammates. So if you really wanted to do this...then do it. Best of luck.

You don't have to state the theme directly. The way themes generally work is the story focuses on the theme: either saying it's right, saying it's wrong or being indifferent about it. What you've described is probably fine to the readers.

YES!  Correct.  We have over 2 days still.

I'm partying hard for the 4th today, but I'm also writing my script in my head, and it's take a 179 degree turn from what I was sure I would go with yesterday evening...after also parting very hard for the 4th.

No swearing, no nudity, no sexuality, no sexist writing.  You guys are gonna dig this shit!

Hey, groveling doesn't get you any free points with me. Of course, if you want to fetch me those grapes over there, that'd be a different story...

All kidding aside, I do appreciate that. These things, I like to kind of give everyone something a bit special, if at all possible. The OWCs are always a special occasion when they come up so when I wanted to start this, it had to be special in a different way, something to where it's not just a 5WC.

I just think that philosophy had led me astray and the Tournament has gotten wildly out-of-control over the years. I think the people who participate do genuinely enjoy it. I know I love seeing the insane amounts of creativity everyone here possesses.

It doesn't mean this will be the last one. I'd be glad to help someone else along if they planned to remake it in the future (help them avoid the ditches I dug for myself), or, who knows? Maybe another year will pass and I'll say to myself, "Yeah, that was rough... but was it really that bad?" I don't know.

What I do know is that I think everyone is going to have a very special five weeks. =)

Well amongst the madness that has been this weekend I found 2 spare hours to write something almost resembling a script.

Hoping to catch up any lost ground after this piece of crap in the following weeks when I'm not so time poor.

Good luck everyone!

Blimey, the idea I had is just too bloody big and I don't think I've done it justice at all in the 5 pages. It is too late to start again with another idea so I'll tinker with it some more but I'm already resigning myself to this one not doing so well.

Speaking of which, I've just read through the rules again on page 1 of the 'Introduction' thread and it's unclear who will be voting on these scripts and how. Plus, as Geezis says, where are we uploading the scripts to and are they anonymous like the OWC's?

I remember reading on one of the posts somewhere that we have to put all the elements we've used in the logline, just confirming this is the case?

In regards to submitting, typically Don sets up a unique URL to submit to or, possibly, the regular way to submit with a notation about it being for the Tournament. Hopefully, Don can give some input in this regard.

Everyone will be voting on these scripts and they will be done using a simple scoring table of 1-5 (1 being worst and 5 being best).

Yes, that's accurate. No standard loglines, like you normally do. Just genre, object, location, character and the theme.

He has set up the URL: simplyscripts.com/owc as the submission link for the Tournament.

This will also be posted on the main page for anyone interested.

Blimey, the idea I had is just too bloody big and I don't think I've done it justice at all in the 5 pages. It is too late to start again with another idea so I'll tinker with it some more but I'm already resigning myself to this one not doing so well.

You are not alone, my friend.  For me, 5 pages is always tough, as I like to build character through dialogue and dialogue eats up pages very quickly.

Mine is running way too long, so snip snip, cut cut, down to 5 pages.

ARGH!!!!

No one is complaining about his very bad script that needs to be burnt and torn to pieces. Maybe everyone wrote a great one then

err...not quite

I am in no doubt what kind of response I am going to receive for the great cucumber massacre I have written

luckily we can hide behind the short timeframe, and very unusual level of prescription that applies

well, I am

I don't know why but I feel theres a connection there, some unspoken thread.

I call it my seventh sense.

I often have one of those after a bottle of wine, but before you ask, that's nothing to do with my compromised ability to count.

I haven't entered one of these tournaments before, but I do hope they are chilled.

Any chance of a recurring countdown clock, Don?

I guess it could be a pain in the butt.

I'm starting over for the third time. Yip, too big an idea here as well.

Then again, I could just set an alarm ten minutes short of 1:59 tomorrow aest.

Is it three different ideas for you?

I totally butchered my first draft to rewrite it. It's better now, but there are still problems. I'm kind of tired to be honest

I'm satisfied with the file extension on my script.

Was this answered?

Do we put our name, a fake name, or no name on the script?

I know we put our name on the submission form for the OWCs, but I just want some clarification for the tournament.

Got to assume anonymity as in past WTs.

No prejudice.

Wouldn't be half as much fun without anon.

Submitted mine!

They say you should never go with your first idea and never show anyone your first draft. In this tournament we won't' have time for anything else, there's less time than the normal OWC and more confined parameters.

I think we all need to give ourselves a break and realise this. What we may see in these scripts is potential, the beginning of great ideas.

I just wish for week 1 I didn't choose a horror about rubber chickens set on the moon with a retired bull sperm collecter.

I was thinking about a horror with killer rubber chickens too. I was about to call it A Rooster In The Henhouse Of Hell. But I thought nobody cases about a rooster massarce, so I had to go with a different genre and story

I submitted the opus moments ago. I went for something a little out of my normal box.

Written, re-written and re-re-written. Formatting is spot on with great dialogue and the perfect amount of white space.

Only issue is the story sucks. Hmmmm...problem?

I totally took that topic to the next level!
It starts with exploration of all things evil, boils it down to evil money and then questions the mere fact of money being evil or else.
You'll have to use your best parts of the brain to get through mine and if you can't do it - guess what does it say about your brain
That's it.
Submitting.
Or not.

Or waiting till the last moment.

But it's there, done and waiting for it's moment.

Good stuff. Held my interest all the way through. Though, maybe it would have had a bit more punch if you made me care about the unsuspecting person more. But, that's a nit. Overall, I liked it.

Thanks for sharing,

Not everyone.
I think I made out alright.

Yeah all good Blondie. But on the first page of this thread when you give the comp deets, the deadline reads 1159 pm.  Not 159pm

I started too late. What I thought was a good idea ended up a TRAINWRECK!! And I have 2 hours and 1 1/2 pages to go. Why do I always think these things are going to be fun? This isn't fun!!

Ok...maybe it's a little fun.

I always say next time I'll submit with plenty of time to spare.

Maybe next time...
Now we can relax and read.

Until next time.

P.S. At least I know Kham has my back. And no, she ain't my partner.

Hard for me to say. Likely, Don (if taking past contests as an indication) would have them up sometime in the next 12 hours.

As for how long to read, I'd be happy to give you guys all Tournament to have time to read them, but that may be a nightmare for Don to keep track of.

Let's say, Sunday, when the next round's scripts are due?

Sort of. Some of these combinations, compared to what could've been made, seem highly creative. I love that.

Only read three so far but bloody hell. I'm impressed. Considering the constraints, time being a major one, these are excellent.

Also, is it just me? I have to keep going back and checking the elements used to makes sure they are in there. I keep forgetting what ones they say they are going to use.

A few clever people have written the elements on their title pages.
I think that's a nifty idea for successive weeks.

So, not to hijack the thread (but I am), I rewrote "In the Red", a OWC from back in Oct. 2016, had it illustrated and our favorite host (my man Don!) posted it today on the home page.

So, we're supposed to write these scripts over the weekend?  For 4 weeks in a row?

That ain't how I spend my weekends.  Sadly, I'm going to bow out, as this is not what I thought I signed up for.

Yeah, I hit my back button a few times to find the archive thread. I guess I didn't read most of the responses before I read and reviewed. I just picked a script at random.

If I read some of the comments beforehand, I probably wouldn't have wasted my time.

which is why I'm going a little easy when doing my reviews. Some of them, even at 5 pages, might have been written in a hurry given the holiday.

Totally agree

We should not be reviewing these as polished, perfect scripts

So far I think there have been some damn good efforts under the circumstances

My scripts  HERE

The Elevator Most Belonging To Alice - Semi Final Bluecat, Runner Up Nashville
Inner Journey - Page Awards Finalist - Bluecat semi final
Grieving Spell - winner - London Film Awards.  Third - Honolulu
Ultimate Weapon - Fresh Voices - second place

So sorry, Darren. To prevent my "New Jersey" mouth from being unleashed again, I thought it best to remove the script in case anyone else views "fan fiction" as plagiarism.

Two lessons I've learned...
1...don't ever write another fan fiction piece on SS.
2...apparently not everyone is as geeked out by the movie Se7en as I am.

I'm still in. Will finish reviewing today and tomorrow and look forward to next round.

I didn't get to read the script before it disappeared, and I have NO idea what the issue is, so I'm talking out of ignorance here... but, I find that thought disappointing. I love the fact that the OWC and WT allow us as writers to push boundaries in every direction. I think fan fiction ought to be part of the experience here, if that's what you want to explore. But, again, I didn't see the script or the discussion.

I highlighted that one part Marine, because I do recall that OWC about...two...years...ago I think were there was a 're-imagining' of 70s and 80s TV shows. I chose Thundarr The Barbarian  I don't mind a fan fic no profit short one off, so long as that is the intent. I do frown on feature length fan scripts.

I could be wrong, but one of the options wasn't fan fic, and if you must know, until I read the first page of the thread, it didn't really dawn on me. It wasn't even part of my reaction. I still have the summary on my clipboard (I cut and pasted it there in case the missing thread was an unrelated error on my end)  It was a mixed reaction, but I thought the writing was good overall,

tell ya what.
I'll PM you the review.

Aa, I don't even know what a fanfic is.

I remember saying something iike "took this from that and another thing from that" to one author on MoviePoet.
And then I created a thread to ask if it's ok to do something like that. So, people were saying that Tarantino is doing that. And many actually. And it's like a thing to do.

So, I did what Warren did to you. And turned out I was wrong cos it can't be called 'stealing' either - cause that writer created something of his own, and yes, some of the things resembled some other stuff.
And later it turns out that he didn't take those things and it was all my imagination. I was so embarrassed. And it's a great writer too.
He was here on SS. I actually think he died. He said he needed a knee surgery and then just disappeared from every resource.

Anyway, things happen. I'm glad we're moving on.

Crime was the genre I chose, and it was clearly a crime. There is almost always a sub-genre...this one would be fan fiction.

Like I mentioned...I geek out over certain movies, one of them is Se7en. I glom onto certain characters and want to see more of them...see what they were like in their youth, see traumas and life events that made them who they are...or in this case, actually see how John Doe got into the DA's office and murdered him.  One of my many, "never-to-be-realized" feature ideas is a story called, "Quint". Pretty sure most will know who that is. Anyway, he's a character I've always wanted to know more about.

Kham...fan fiction is when you use an already established world, mostly comic book stuff, and write your own story. Like geeked out Harry Potter fans have written brand new stories using Rowling's already established world and characters to kick start it. It's a great writing exercise also.

Oh yeah! True. And funny...I just added Disney+ today so we could have a Hamilyon watch party tonight. I might keep it for a few months to watch good stuff like Mandalorian.

Maybe I could get Jon Fav to produce Quint. Lol.

I wake up and it’s 1970 all again when John and Paul went their seperate ways

Jeff messaged me and it’s cool.  Hopefully he reconsiders.

Marn, Jaws is my favourite film ever and I’ve just finished a feature that pays homage to it. It’s not technically fan fic but I use char names in it. It’s called The Killing Waters and it’s in the Action/adventure thread if you’re interested.  Lol talk about free advertising

I thought Hamilton was going to be torture @2:45 but it was pretty darn good. Stayed awake and watched in one sitting.

Yeah, Disney+ is worth it.

Blondie, I’m happy for you to randomly delete half of my variables and genres for the sake of fairness.

Just make sure they aren’t the ones I’ve already planning to use lol. I have a couple of good ideas for the next couple of rounds and hopefully the themes will fit Lol!!

That is the protocol I had decided upon in this event, before the Tournament started. If Jeff is certain about his decision, I'll be messaging you after they're randomized.

Adjustments have been made. Stevie's variables have been adjusted due to Jeff dropping out. The same has also been done for Anthony & Marnie. Hopefully, this doesn't cause anybody undue stress. Everything should now be evened out again.

It’s been a struggle for him. Nothing virus related, just blocked arteries in his leg. His foot went black weeks ago so they removed his toes. Still may have to have the leg off under the knee but nothing on that yet. I ring him each day and he’s in good spirits.  My sister drives across Melbourne most days to see him and some of my cousins have visited too.  Thanks for the concern, Lib.  He’s a tough old bugger who doesn’t whinge but he’s 81 now (had a birthday in hospital) and he just wants to get to my hometown no matter how his leg ends up

Bro, give your Dad some Love, coming from AZ!  Seriously...hope he pulls through and is OK!

My Dad is 95 and I worry all the time, but he's still living alone in a 3 story, 4,000 ft place in upper WI, with virtually no neighbors, and he rakes and burns his leaves, and even salts his driveway in the winter with 40 pound bags.

He's pretty amazing and I love him dearly!

It's all good.  My Mom is 92 and my Dad is 80 and they are taking every precaution, but I, too, worry about them terribly.  I, too, talk to them daily.  My Mom fell, but after a call to their primary care MD, decided that they'd monitor at home rather than risk going to the ER.  Since I've called twice a day to quiz her to make sure she doesn't have a concussion.

So, everyone's assignment is to call your Mom or Dad or elderly neighbor.

Now, as of 10:22 pm edt - there have been eight votes. The eight voters have been sent a PM.  I've received two ballots with NO name.  So, if you voted and didn't get a PM from me, ping me.

Yep agree. Stay at home to heal if possible.

My Mum's at home with us after a stroke.

My opinion: No nursing homes or hospitals unless absolutely necessary in the time of the plague. Too dicey! You guys have it bad over there.

We've just had a second wave in Victoria and this thing spreads like wildfire. Yet still we're so lucky so far ... compared.

Hope your Mom recovers fast, Don.

I'm a bit tired, so I'm posting week 2 a little early. I'll still be up for another half hour or so for questions, if the need arises.

Well, hope everyone's parents will turn up to be alright. It's terrible to have anyone at a hospital these days.

I have a 74 year old mother in Baku. I call her everyday to make sure she's alright. She's bored and we talk for hours.
