I actually have this book and it is helpful. Easy to use and they give good examples of things and go into details about each plot type.

If you want to go into more detail, then there are the 36 Dramatic Situations by George Polti. It is so detailed it hurts the brain!

Also - for a good reference in parallel to these concepts, then there is the Writer's Journey by Christopher Vogler (based on upon psychology of Joseph Campbell and to a lesser degree, Carl G. Jung).

I have the writers journey also. lol. My book case has a ton of the self-help books for writers at an arms reach from my computer desk. With such titles as

The Writers Journey
A whack on the side of the head
Elements of Fiction Writing (charcters and viewpoint, beginnings, middles and ends, setting, description
How to write science fiction and fantasy
Writing science fiction and fantasy
Dare to be a great writer
Keys to great writing
Building better characters
Idiots guide to publishing science fiction and fantasy
Idiots guide to getting published
Idiots guide to screenwriting
How to make the million dollar movie

The list goes on and on.I do have other normal reading stuff but not close at hand to my computer desk. I buy everything self help. Go through it. COpy down some things I think is helpful and put it in a file on my computer etc.

I subscribe to Writers digest. Any ideas on a good screenwriting magazine I can subscribe to that gives helpful hints etc?

Thanks for all the info. I'll check it out later when I get more time. I ordered the book from amazon and should get it within a couple of days.
