Not to be confused with the guy that produced all the Beatles records!

This author is well known but I'd never read any of his stuff - his genre is mainly fantasy.
I grabbed one of his older books, 'Fevre Dream from the library and its a great horror story.

Its set in 1857 on the Mississipi river, and involves the big steamboats trade, slaves and VAMPIRES!! A blurb on the cover says  'imagine Stephen King mixed with Mark Twain', and that's spot on.
It was written in 1982 and I'm surprised it was never filmed - all th eingrediants are there for a neat horror flick. Anyway, I'm gonna check out more of his work.

Cheers stevie

George R R Martin was the driving force behind The White Card series, an anthology series based in a world of superheroes and freaks.  My favorite superhero character, Cap'n Tripps, came from this series.  Tripps was a 1960's hippie who would turns into a superhero only when he was stoned.  And, the hero he became depended on the drug he took.  His power lasted only as long as the drugs remained in his system.

Sounds a bit like Coke Ennyday in  the Mystery of the Leaping Fish...Only that was from the 20s.

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnot quite, Cornetto.

Cap'n Trips, aka Mark Meadows, physically turned into his different alter egos when he was stoned.  Each were completely different people (one was actually an Asian woman, another was a dolphin).

The first character he turned into, the Radical, prevented the disaster at Kent State.  Unfortunately, because someone gave him this drug and he doesn't know exactly what drug it was, he has been unable to become the radical again.

Marvel Comics did a short-lived comic adaptation of Wild Cards.  Ironically, it sucked.

Wonder if that's where Stephen King got the Captain Trips moniker for the virus in The Stand.
