I've heard of First Draft and Sophocles (that spelled right?), but I was wandering what's better. Also, where could I find them and about how much do they usually cos? |

Sophocles is freeware but I think only partially enabled unless you purchase the full version which I believe is $119? It's been awhile since I checked. Didn't like it too much, but check it out for yourself, see what you think.
Not familiar with First Draft. Final Draft 6 I think is roughly around the same price. $139 or so? I like Final Draft quite a bit and it's pretty much an industry standard software. |

NOTE TO SOPHOCLES PEOPLE: Hi. My name is Alan Holman, and I use an illegal copy of the full version of your program; I found it somewhere on the net that I can not recall exactly where I found it. I love your program SOPHOCLES very much, and it has helped me to become the writer I am today. The second one of my scripts gets purchased for over five-hundred dollars, I will gladly pay you two hundred dollars for the copy of SOPHOCLES which I use currently. |

Same here. I have the full working version of SOPHOCLES and it's fantastic. Only problem is, I'm sitting on a wealth of incredible screenplays I have wrote using it... and I can't upload any of them to this sight. Anyway, trust me SOPHOCLES is the best... hands down. It just is. Simple, easy, clean, laid out and a breeze to use. |

Have any of you tried, "Save As" and saving the script in another format?

Never thought of that :/
I'll try it though... I noticed COFFIN CANYON was a little jumbled in places do to the HTML format.
No big deal, cause I wanna put up the final draft this weekend and maybe send in a few others with it.
Thanks for the heads up.. |

I use Movie Magic Screenwriter too and it is sooo easy to use. I think people should check it out if they haven't done so already. Have a look at the URL for more info. http://www.screenwriterstore.co.uk/index.taf?_p=PRD10006 |

I use Sophocles. I managed to buy it when it was on special for $60. I don't have a problem uploading from it. I just use print preview and export it as a html, rtf or pdf file. It rocks. I haven't really tried the others, mainly because they are out of my price range (I live in a country where the dollar is seven times my own currency - I ain't that rich *grin*) |

I'd love to read that post... but I'm not going to. Anyway and how and why and when... Sophocles is great stuff, Movie Magic is good too and Final Draft is great just for the voice speach alone... When you hear classic lines such as "Butter Dick" "Pearl Snorkler" & "Poyina Head" read back to you, it's too good to pass up. However, I often dream I'm the knife man in a circus when I go to sleep "like I'm going to in 3 minutes" and I often think of missing~ Good to see you K.K. or... oh I'm sorry... MISS K.K. Balt~ Good thoughts to you... |

i've recently been converted to using Final Draft after years of just using Word..
my theory was that Word may take longer thanks to manually formatting things, but I like to think it forces you to edit your work more than you might do.
and then I sued FD for the first time.. and realised how many man-hours I'd lost over the years! I think I actually shed a little tear of joy.. |

I've been using Finald Draft for over a year now. The only problem I've had with it is that the 'upper caps' will stick for one character longer than you want to. People have told me it's because I'm typing too fast or I'm not letting go of the shift button fast enough. I've intentionially typed slowly to see if this is the case and it's not. It's the software.

If time is important to you -- It is a necessacity If time isn't important to you and you have it to burn and kill -- It isn't a necessacity I use Final Draft and Sophocles now and couldn't ever even want to write without them... I don't see how some of you all do it. I would've been a man with idea's in my head, rather than one with them in my head and on paper now. Good thoughts~ |
