Not sure how you or others feel about this issue, but I noticed after I bumped up my Goonies thread (because of my event), the sheer number of scripts that are actually on this site is really high - but not many of them have views of over 200 and/or replies to them!!
I was thinking what if there is an archive section for those scripts on this message board? --> Eventually all that will happen is there will be pages and pages of scripts that very few people are reading or replying to filling up the boards, whilst other scripts that are being read, might be lost amongst them all...
Maybe, if after X amount of views... if X number of replies haven't been made, then the script is moved to the archive section of the forum?? Any other ideas Then when it gets replies, it gets bumped back into the active section of the forum? I dunno, I'm just thinking...
It's just a thought, really not for my own personal gain, but it did cross my mind that an awfully high number of people post their work up here, but don't actually post anywhere else!!!
There is an archive of sorts. The main site contains an archive of all the scripts by genre as well as a full list of all scripts. Each listing has a link to its respective area in the discussion board.
Eventhough Don allows those who don't post ever to still have there scripts up on the site I think they should be deleted off the message board because when people like us spend the time reading the script we want to know somebody is there to recieve the comments
I haven't had any problems with the writers not being around but I know of a whole bunch who aren't here until they need something
But I guess life especially online will never be perfect unless Don made the site paying members only like Kevin Smith and viewaskew did on their site, than again not many people want to pay to use a message board
I think I know what you mean but if a script doesn't get to many views and the writer isn't like hey read this well than of course it's going to be forgotten, people should utilize Goose and his reviewing service more.
Well, K.K. I love the idea myself, as you know... I say this cause, yeah Don is right and has a point, but then... we have so many sections that kinda cover the same ground anyways... I know you've done your best getting rid of them, but still, many forums here aren't being used to the best advantage for members and guest alike.
I know I'd like to see the old screenplays, maybe even 6 months older and more... be moved to another location within a genre. It would makes the good and bad stuff really stand out. However, this is my take on it and I'm often recalled for defects, back to the toy store with me
Then again, I'd like to have a section all to myself dammit! All Balt, 24/7 all the time!!!!! << Infomercial in the making, I kidd.. I kidd... >>
You having your own board would be cool, you'd only need it though if you had a lot of scripts. Release an insane amount of great quality script like you have been and than Don would have to find something to do with all of your work
That actually makes sense, there's an alternative idea to go with this that helps even further. Some people like Balt, and Casey have many many screenplays on this web site.(Or did and or will) Why not place them in there own thread, Don did this with seven of casey's screenplays awhile back
Good way to preserve room and still keep your older scripts in the limelight with all your newer work, than people can look over all of your bad good and great scripts but of course this wouldn't apply to a series like say Banana Chan or Lunchroom because they already need the space for new epsiodes but full length and shorts can be combined into one thread in a genre board
That's only a suggestion, but it doesn't alienate some writers. Just frees up a lot of room in certain genre's which I think was the point
See Don, my popular meter is thru roof!!!! I tell you what, how about I send in all 36 of my shorts and you give me my own board, LOL!
And we'll call it "WHAT A LONG STRANGE TRIP IT'S BEEN" and it'd be great stuff... "crickets" "Crickets"
Ok, how about this... we don't do that and we focus more on the situation at hand and that's getting some of these great screenplays I've read up in front of the ones I wish I never read.
Think about it, Don... could be good stuff and hell who knows I might even get my own saturday morning cartoon out of this whole thing
Now that'd be prettier in person, rather than prettier in words and I know way prettier than me. Balt~

Hi Wes, I think you make a good point - I'm not a big reader, I can't lie, but I do know that when someone goes to the effort of reading my work, the least I can do is to get back to them and reply with something of substance. Good point here!
I think Goose should be given an award for all the time he puts into reading people's work here!! The Goose Awards....hmmm...

- Good points CK + Wes!
I also agree and think that for writers who have a lot of their scripts online here, there should be a folder or thread for them, maybe sub-categorized members within a thread ..a portfolio of their work if you like.
E.G - A new section in the 'I'm Looking For... OR My Work In Progress' part of the forum, entitled 'Looking for a Writer? - Script Archive list' - then in that thread when you click on it - you'd see a list of posts with the popular writer's names (not popular good or bad, just those who do write a lot, i.e
Balt, (+ real name) -> click on thread - inside thread, the list of their work with links to those pages
Wes, (+ real name)
the Goose, (+ real name)
R.E Freak (+ real name) (...et al)
Then, when you click on the writer, like in the first reply Don does when he firsts puts up the script with the synopsis......you'd see the URL list with all their writing directly to those pages - that way you have a portfolio and section there in itself, but not clutering up the boards....if that makes ANY sense at all!!!!!!!!!!
-->I think that if you have a favourite writer here, you can access all their work easily rather than play treasure hunt trying to find it amongst all the other gems here...
That's what I'm trying to say - I'm going back to bed, gonna take some beechams cold drink, I'm off work sick today...!
When I read all of Balt's short screenplays it did get annoying having to go in and out of different posts to get them, I cut out the middleman and just save them on my hard drive to read eventually when I find something I want to read
I sometimes read more than I should, gets in the way of my own work. But it's just so good reading good scripts that make me want to be better I just can't help myself
Too much work for Don to go through and sort out all the screenplays tho but eventually that would be a very helpful idea
If the site were "paying members only", I'd never post here again. The internet is a tool for developing that utopian world where Picard's debates against Q are oh so stimulating.
Yeah, that's why I think Vireaskew should make there boards free again. I'd love to go on the boards and talk with other fans of the films and you know Smith and the team go there because they said they do
Sometimes you want to tell them that you respect there work but you can't because you're not famous or some bull like that, If I was famous I'd want to interact with people like us on this web site because some are the general watching audience and they tell you what you do and don't do well
Of course there are those writers who hate everything that isn't theres or Star Wars

Paying for a website alone is such a scam... I mean, is it not enough we pay 50 and 60 bucks a month for broadband and 24 for standard AOL? Really, c'mon... what's on the net that needs to be paid for other than services rendered for what you get?
If this were a pay site, I'd dump gas all over it and toss a match on it...
Talk about P's and Q's~
A man walks into a bar and sits down at an empty bar stool and he ask the bartender where the last man sat, that just sat here.
If you have the comon knowledge, everything is for free and nothing is for me or so I like to believe.
For all of the bashing that is going on here, please bear in mind that what you are getting from this site is free exposure for your work. This site takes my time and my money to keep up. Right now that is paid for through advertising. As for the suggested changes in this thread, they are all good ideas. However, making modifications to the site to support those changes takes time and money, neither of which I have to do to improve the site and still maintain it. Bear in mind, other sites - major sites that have sprung up on the unproduced model are money making ventures or supported by money making ventures and are run and maintained by a team of people. Simplyscripts is run and maintained by one person.
I don't think anyone was actually intending for any negativity towards this site. Not at all. Sorry if it came across that way.
I think we got off track with talks about viewaskew.com...and the whole membership payment thing that goes on there. I for one know what its like to create a website, let alone what its like to be moderator to a relatively quiet one in comparison to yours! And yes, it does cost money to maintain.
I really hope you don't think we don't appreciate all your hard work and effort that you make towards this site, because it is recognised and valued greatly...hence your regulars "cough".......
I apologise if it went off track, as I know its too easily done...!!But that's not to say that our ideas can't be pursued some time in the future, should you wish to take up anybody's offer of help etc...
Once again, I hope that you know now that we are actually in support of your site, as it is and everything you have done here to date, as it is excellent exposure for everyone's work.
I was saying this site is better than viewaskew because you don't charge for your message board, without this site specifically I'd not be a writer anymore if at all
It was after people like Kessler, RE Freak and Alan Holmon to name a few who have been here a long time that I even stayed a writer. There work, attitudes and all of there contributions whether knowing or not to myself and others.
Other writing web sites die down this one has beeb living for a long time and hopefully it continues for many more
If anything this and this is my own point of view and I have not check out any other message board like this because I'm loyal to Simplyscripts only but this is one of if not the best web site I've ever visited writing related or not
I visit this site more than anything else because of it's members and the dedication Don has placed into the message board and main site
So I'd never intentionally bash this site because it has done so much for me in many ways and on many different levels
I do fully understand what it is you do here and want you to know my little gas and match comment was a joke and it wasn't at all directed at the site as a whole.
You give us a gift to put our work out there, for free, and let us reap the rewards at the expense of your time and your money... I know I owe you a whole lot of respect back for all the good and bad things my screenplays have gotten off your site.
So, don't go thinking it's all for not.
What you do here is bigger than words on a screen. This is a service to any and everyone, good or bad at what they do, to learn, progress and maybe be someone better. And guess what...? It's all for free << That's the jew in me coming out mind you >> I kidd... I kidd... I do...
C.K.
Good thoughts~
P.S. I guess now would probably not be a good time to insert a plea for my own "What a long strange trip it's been" Baltis board though would it? I might have got your name mixed up with santa Don.
I got an e-mail the other day from a guy who has the same name -- first and last -- as a character from AMERICAN ANIME. He was offended by "his" portrayol, and he suggested changes to the character. I MIGHT change the character, but if I do, it'll be even more unlike the real person (whom I've never met), because, as they say: "ALL SIMILARITIES TO A PERSON, EITHER LIVING OR DEAD, UNLESS SPECIFIED OTHERWISE, ARE UNINTENTIONAL."
If it weren't for this site, I wouldn't have gotten that e-mail. Fun stuff.
If it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have gotten an msn messanger virus and a death threat from one of those 1 time posters and than they leave kinda members but also you have to take in to fact the multiple people you meet that otherwise you wouldn't and forget about the bad things
