I was reading George Wilson's "How in the world..." thread, and was curious if there might be any interest in a read-for-a-read "trading" hookup.

People could post on this thread, agreeing to comment on someone else's script provided they could get similar treatment for their own in return.

The more you are willing to dish out the feedback, the more you can get in return.  It would work on the honor system, but if you are a blow-off, people would cease to trade with you anyway.

I'm game, and I am betting there are others.

Its a good idea, I just usually read things for the joy of it but some people need the extra push. I think this would be even better for scripts not quite finished but stuck, feedback always helps and especially when you get stuck in a script before it's actually finished but yeah.

Lets see if this works out for whoever needs it.

I never know what to read. At least with something like this, there would be some kind of direction, and you would know that whomever posts would benefit from feedback rather than rnadomly reading and commenting on stuff by people who have yet to find out that there IS a message board.

That being said, I would still poke through the threads seeing what I can find, but if someone wants to trade, I have a list at the bottom of my profile of where I hide my works. Adventure, Horror, Thriller, Drama (Religious)...something for anyone.

And I guess I'll be reading the Farm, right Bert?

Using your signature and than endlessly promoting your work in every post tends to work against those people, notice the people who do it have had a decrease in reads and or views.

I figured this thread was for participating in this little read for a read shindig. I have nothing to lose by placing my titles in my signature, which I only did recently, since before I did this, no one read any of my scripts anyway. When you have nothing, you have nothing to lose by shameless promotion. Besides, I gave up the shameless promotion thing awhile ago because it got me nowhere. Instead, I figured I'll just participate in whatever discussions are occurring and just put my stuff in the signature to see what happens.

I figured if Phil, who has his scripts in his sig, has 7 pages worth of comments on Burnout, Suicide has 3, and Tocsin, only posted on 2/6, has several comments as well, then he's got me beat, and I'll follow his lead.

I am also game for trading and reading others. And there is nothing wrong with self-promotion... what does George W. Bush do? He didnt just fall into the seat of being president (even though it seems like he did).

I think most of Phil's reads are because the reviews he gets are pretty long and his replies are almost as long. Check out Banana Chan, it's got 13 plus pages and that's self promotion by someone who's been here since roughly when the message board got going.

I never said you, I just meant it doesn't do you any favors.

Anyway get out there a read stuff.

I think putting your titles in your sig helps others seek out your work.  When I read interesting or thoughful comments, I tend to seek out that person's work -- and sometimes that can be difficult given the sheer volume of stuff here.  Particularly for the new people still learning the ropes.

Wes, it took me about 15 minutes to connect the dots between you and the series "Better Days", when otherwise, I might have known instantly.

And "Clockwork"; I have no idea what you've got around here.

George; I am assuming you want people to take a look at "Fempiror Chronicles".  Will do.  I'll post on your thread sometime early next week.

I am pretty jazzed about "The Farm" -- a departure from the mutilated teenager motif so common in the Horror posts -- and would certainly welcome your thoughts on it.

I had that series in my signature because I was promoting upcoming episodes but I noticed nobody cared so I stopped for now... So, that makes two of us reading Fempiror Chronicles ha-ha.

Now I'm jazzed about two reads on my Fempiror Chronicles. That saga is my baby, and what I'm most interested ingeting opinions on. I'll be reading the Farm in the next couple of days and Wesley, what would you prefer I look over of yours?

It doesn't really matter but if you have the time Ninja's Curse has been sitting in the series section and it's only a 21 page animated series that lasted 5 episodes until I redo the series but I could use some advice or a review on any episode. 4 and 5 were my big action jump and nobody ever read it that I know of.

By the way George did you happen to get my pm about Fempiror Chronicles?

I just replied to your pm about the Fempiror Chronicles. I tend to be a little negligent on my days off, of which Thursday is one.

And I can certainly read the Ninja's Curse to see how it goes. If no one read 4 or 5, I can read all 5 episodes to get the feel of it as a whole.

I'll get around to taking a look at Ninja's Curse, too.

But see...that is what I mean about the signature.  I would never have found that in a million years.

If you do read it though send the reviewor your thoughts to my e mail because I'm going to have the scripts and possibly the thread taken down until I'm done doing rewrites but I really could use some feedback on the episodes to make them better in the rewrites.

I listen to all feedback, the good the bad and the ugly but if it's just ugly saying it sucks well that doesn't help haha. I'm up for reading stuff though, from anyone whether it's finished or not.

I'll read partial scripts and try to help out if anybody needs it, just send me a pm and I'll give you my good e mail address the one without spam e mails so I actually get it.

If people like one of your scripts, listing all of them in your sig will help them find the others.  That's why I do it.

And if you have 30 screenplays up, than what? It's a screenwriting website so yeah I'd say why not have your screenplays in your signature.

If you have 30 screenplays up, you just have to pick your favorites... Then again, if you have 30 full screenplays and no sales, one has to wonder if you're not doing something right...

Seen several posts lately by people looking for feedback.

Just bumping this back up to remind people it is here, or to help some of the newer members find it.

Hi guys, I posted this elswhere on the board but this seems like the relevant thread.

I'm 30 odd pages in to feature length comedy/horror and I'm looking to get some feedback on what I have so far. I'm not posting it on this site because i dont think this is the place for incomplete scripts.

If anyone's willing to read it and give comments, I'd be happy to read and review a feature (or two) in exchange.

A little about the script:

Tagline: "Hell hath no fury like a pigeon scorned"

The Birds meets Shaun of the Dead

As I said it's not on the boards but I can email it to anyone who wants to read.

My working title is "Matt Among the Pigeons" (cheesy I know)

Gee...you mean there is somebody out there that doesn't want to sling their half-baked crapola up onto a board?

Why not do it as a three-part series?  People gripe (rightly, I think) about 25-page nonsense going up on the feature boards, but I haven't seen anybody complain about well thought-out stories going up piece-wise on the series board.  I am working on one myself.

Dress up your 30 pages and post it as Part I, with more to come.  Then you can get feedback as you go.  I would certainly read it there (it sounds...um...different?), and positive comments will probably generate more readers than pleas for e-mail fans.

Bert, I have. You may have missed the post but I know what the people have been doing, I mentioned it in another post, I think it's a bad idea because you make people wait so long and if you'll just make it a full script after the parts are up what was the point in the first place?

That means Don than has to take 3 down and replace them with 1, pointless but whatever people like.

Is it a big problem for Don?  Quite honestly, I have no idea what goes on at the other end of this keyboard.  I just thought it was, like, magic, you know?

My two motivations for suggesting this were (1) to keep the short stuff where it should go and (2) to get feedback DURING the creation process, before you spend months going down a blind alley that everybody hates when you are finally done.

I thought both of those were good reasons...

One recent one like this that comes to mind is Balt's M.M.M., and I thought you liked the way he was doing it?

I like the way he writes, I may not agree with the way it's done but I can't help it, it's Balt. He releases so little and it's all that good you just have to come back, he does what he does very well. That's about it, but the fact that he gave us a date when he'll release the next part is the one thing that I mean.

He knows when his next part is coming, if he misses that date though he may lose some people.

I have no real problems with doing it this way, just the simple fact you make people wait longer than you promise they will not be back and that hurts you.

But if all you want is feedback just use that thread I started in work in progress, Balt is doing it that way for other reason's I believe. Like Dogglebe has said over and over don't release rough drafts, so if you use that thread in WIP you're not releasing it you're getting the help you need.
