I just posted a message similar to this on Andrew's "Liberty City" thread, but have decided that I am steamed enough to make a broader appeal.
I think the "star rating" system should be phased out, as it gives people too much anonymous leeway to be jerks.
George had like 4.5 stars on "Vengence" -- I saw it this morning -- and as soon as he posted something hopeful, positive, and optimistic on his thread, a couple of assholes went in and took it down to 2. What is up with that?
Whether it springs from jealousy or just being mean or whatever, I am quite certain those jerks never even read it, you know?
You have my vote, the stars shouldn't matter. You should show your opinion for a person's script with a written review, not by some star rating system.

Though earth and man are gone, I thought the cube would last forever. I WAS WRONG.
Wow, that's weird. I remember it being higher earlier too. A similar thing happened on the Fempiror Chronicles thread. I had 5 stars and, like, 2 or 3 votes or something like that. Someone (without posting a negative review) likely gave it 1 star which kicked it down to 2 and some change.
While one would hope that the jerks would be balanced by the legitimate voters, I rarely vote for much of anything and just leave comments. Now we can realize that it isn't much of a gauge for how good or bad something is, but if that's the case, Bert has a point...why keep it?
I guess we can all start voting for scripts and what we think of them, but that leads to another problem. Let's say I submit a dreaded first draft that sucks. Well after so many reviewers saying it is total crap, I revise it to a jewel. Well (accepting I should not have submitted a first draft to begin with), I would have to contend with a low star level that those who might re-read would raise but they can't. Is it just me, or did that last paragraph sound stupid?
Anyway, I'm with you Bert. The stars are kind of pointless...I give this thread 5 stars.
I also agree. Assholes haha i hate them. Here is what i wrote in my Liberty City thread to response for Bert.
Haha. Yeah they are assholes, people go to a script and see's it has 2 stars and automaticlly dont read it. I know there are some people that do that. I don't think this deserves the 1 star but whatever. At least i have people reading it and giving me helpful reviews to better my writing skills.
Zoetrope has a good rating system where you mark the script out of 10 in several categories whenever you post a review. It's relatively anonymous since you get an average rating once your script has been up for 30 days and is then removed. However, I can't see that working here without major changes.
I think the star rating system here is redundant. Very few scripts actually get rated in this way. Most of the scripts you see with high ratings have just one vote which is likely from the person who wrote it. I'd vote for removing the rating system altogether.
You get my vote to. "Misfortune" went from a 4 star-1 star-2 star. WTF? I think that these star ratings can also discourage a lot of people. Take them down.
If you look at the bottom of every thread, you will find a thread rating. If you have not voted on this thread, it will be a drop downbox with no vote and 1 to 5 stars. The star rating is displayed next to the thread name on the main board, but not visible in the "portal" area.
I think I can only remember ever voting on two or three threads in the entire history of the time I've been here ... and they were threads about my own stuff. We're all posting our stuff here and that star rating thing is one more temptation to inflate our own egoes. I'm not sure whether I feel positively or negatively about it. I'm on the fence about this issue.
Hey, earlier when this thread had 5 votes, it had 5 stars. I was being fecitious when I put 5 stars, but someone went and probably gave it one star knocking it down to 3. How silly.
I dont know if its possible, or even its worth the hassle of Don doing it, but if there was to be a rating system maybe the person has to write a review or at least a comment before being able to vote a rating.
At least that way the rating system would be fair and it might cut out a lot of the antics that seem to have been going on.
