No, most of them just wield adolescent-driven power trips, considering the average age of the moderators on here looks to be 17.
This may be the first message actually moderated now that I think about it. |

I rarely moderate (or edit) posts. If someone posts a title in all caps, I will change it to lower case or edit it to make the title clearer. As for the body of the post itself, no editing is done. Moderators are asked to delete posts rather than edit them.

I've only ever edited 1 post and that was Andrew's thread in WIP to add his synopsis. For the most part you guys contact me and say "hey delete this" or I contact you and ask if you'd like it gone as I did with Andrew when his thread started to go off topic. That's about as far as I take my mod powers, I don't think anyone has ever abused their powers to a point where they looked bad.

I'm not even a teenager anymore but that's probably what would happen if Don wasn't here, that is what happens on IMDB though. |

Don't get me started on imdb. It's full of trolls. I like this site because Don doesn't allow trolls to hang around and drag the site into the gutter. |

My duties usually consist of merging or deleting threads. Usually because that thread is about a movie with a preexisting thread (there is no need for two Toy Story 3 threads).

I agree. IMDB message boards are truly the lowest of the low. |

I bet you the IMDB members hate their own mothers. It seems they hate everything else over there.
Apparently every movie made sucks. Did you know that? I didn't. |

Don't forget about the folks who watch movies then post about how they should be banned and anyone who watches them is sick and, of course, the people who pose as parents who let their nonexistant kids watch any movie they want as long as there's no cursing in it. You'd think moderators don't even exist over there. |

Well first of all this is a site where you read other people's scripts give or get feedback, so there's a lot more than just movie watching and wasting time b****ing and moaning about their worst or least favorite director or celeb.
IMDB is great to see filmmakers filmographies. That's about it. I ignore the forums. They're really sloppy and the intereface is very inconvenient. |

I agree. I like going there to read filmographies of directors and actors and junk. But I never even knew they had a forum until this thread...at least I know not to sign up for it now. |

I think the only problem we have is bashing of screenplays without leaving helpful feedback, a lot of people do that. I think if you only have 1 line to post just send it through a pm don't waste our time by posting it because the writer doesn't get anything from "I like it" or "I hated it"
No script would be on here if it was that good.
Maybe some people would like to know what you liked, what you didn't like but that doesn't mean it's bad, you just didn't feel it worked. People appreciate when they know the reader actually read the script and didn't quickly glance through it or read 10 pages and stop. |

I recently took over the Screenwriting Class. Like Nixon's movie rumors, most of my thread-play has been splits or merges, with the occasional edit of a thread title (changing the title of "Question" to that which describes the thread, for example).
Oh, and I'll be 31 in June. |

The mod of the poetry board wishes members would post poems. Poems are great.
Quoted from Takeshi Do any other moderators want to tell us a little about themselves? |
I am Rob. I am the mod of the poetry board. In a few months, I should be getting a bachelor's degree in computer science with a minor in mathematics. I'm a Tar Heel fan, even though I never attended UNC. Basketball is my sport of choice. I can shoot 3's pretty well, but I can't make a damn free throw. |

You're like Shaq, if he could hit a free throw they might win the championship.
I don't post poetry because I can't write poetry, I don't read poetry because it makes me angry that I can't write it. A double edged sword. |

I'm R.E. Freak. I mod the music board (basically solo since EsKay left), and co-mod the work in progress board with Wes. I am the shadow of Simply Scripts. I see you, but you don't see me. I just sort of drift, minding my business while minding yours. |

Well, I guess I should respond to a specific shout-out. I've often wondered what Modding would be like, so I guess I'll talk about that a bit since it's still kind of new to me.
For anybody who is wondering, the boards look pretty much the same, except that every post has the "delete" and "modify" buttons. And then there are buttons to "lock" or "remove" specific threads.
All of those buttons are very tempting....
Before, I was like, "Man, if I was a Mod I would delete all this shite!!", but now, I feel like I need a really good reason to delete something -- something where I can really justify taking a step like that. It's weird.
I think I might be a little less tolerant than Don for some of the B.S. -- I know it when I see it -- as do most of us, I suspect -- but at the same time you want to respect everyone's opinion and let them express themselves, too -- even if their opinion sets your teeth on edge. So you try to keep that in mind.
Another thing that is kind of a drag is that now I feel obligated to read all of the threads, whereas before I could just ignore a bunch of stuff. Maybe that will change over time. |

A Sub Admin can edit/delete any post in any thread. A Moderator can only edit/delete in posts within the boards they moderate for. Wesley isn't on the moderator's list because he is on the Sub Admin list at: http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?v-members/a-groups/group-6/As to why some folks are listed as moderators even tho they haven't been active in a while? Mostly inertia. Don |

The active moderators are enough to keep things sane which is probably why it's not a big deal that so many are inactive.
Going through the list you find some of the better members from over the years.
It is too bad that a lot of them left for various reasons. |

No doubt the active moderators keep things in order. But I guess I'm the kinda guy who doesn't like loose ends, so if it was up to me I'd 86 the inactive mods. But it's no big deal either way. And you're right about it being too bad that a lot of them left, Wes.
Thanks guys. |
