Sometimes when I delete posts, I notice that they don't get deducted straight away from my overall tally of posts. However, at times I've come back to find that my deleted posts have been deducted from my overall tally. What's the story with that?

No, I'm pretty careful, I don't tend to do that. What I was asking is; when you delete your own messages, how come it doesn't come off your overall post tally until later on? Because when you add a new post it goes straight on to your tally, but when you delete one it doesn't come off, not straight away anyway. I know it sounds a little confusing, but I hope you get what I mean.

I get what you mean.  My tally would actually be the highest if I didn't delete my own posts so often, and if I didn't post as a "guest" for such a long time before actually taking the time to sign up.  I think I had an old computer with a technical issue against the sign-up form, actually.  It's not that I'm into "legacy" computers; it's just that I've always been forced to find out how to get the most out of them.  When I was posting as guest, I was mostly using a 286 with a browser called LYNX ... and sometimes I was using a browser called Arachne.  Sometimes I was using more obscure machines, and more obscure browsers, because beggers can't be choosers.

Takeshi,

When posts are deleted, your post count does not immediately decrease.  Once a week or so I update the post counts when I do the back ups.

That's right.  I was just thinking that google indexes a lot of this, and what we talk about is useful to people who need some information or have a question.  When people search a word or phrase in google, they might find the answer they're looking for when one of our discussions shows up as their search result.  Our conversations, when we help each-other with specific problems, are helpful to other people who don't join these boards but read these boards when they have those specific problems or an interest in reading about those topics which we discuss here.  So if you have a perspective on something that's being discussed, your post is valuable, and when it's not useful to yourself or others anymore, I think you should delete it, especially so that there's less clutter on the internet and so that this site is more useful.  The more useful this site is, the more likely scripts that are on this site will get noticed ... I hope.
