I am missing 100 posts, even posts that were reviews.
Why is that?
When a script is removed at the request of the writer, the thread containing their script and the reviews are deleted. Seriously, why leave the thread up to a script if the script isn't there to read. When that happens post count drops.
Also, periodically and from time to time, I clean out uber old useless threads. Generally weekly, just before I back up the forum, I do a post recount to clear the records.
Folks will also notice that, over all, the number of threads and discussions doesn't really go up all that much year to year. Also, the number of members doesn't go up all that much either. If no one has posted anything after six months membership on the board, they get purged. I'm not trying to prove anything by having a lot of members or a lot of discussion threads. Also, it is a lot easier and cheaper for me to keep the discussion board as tight as possible. It makes it easier to back up the discussion board in the event that there is a melt down (which happens from time to time.). Lastly, the discussion board is a money losing venture. I pay out much more in money than is earned from the annoying advertising I have on the board.
I don't want everyone to hate me for this, but what is the big deal? It can easilly be ignored, and it's not like the posts give the thread a virus... I am missing 100 posts, even posts that were reviews.
Why is that?
The big deal (In my opinion) is the fact that it adds nothing to the thread but a useless post. A simple PM can do the same thing or don't tell them at all, a little surprise is always cool.
You can do it if you want nobody can stop you as the rules don't say anything but try to keep the posts more than 4 words. If bert deletes it don't be surprised, I promise I will not touch them.
This seems like an interesting thread and I promise I'll read it later. Lol. But seriously, I did it once and felt bad about not following through on the promise. Yeah, delete them.
Delete them. I just read the scripts that strike my fancy when I get around to them, I don't see the point in telling the author you'll take a look later. Just post as you read.
