I need some major help. About a year ago, I wrote a fan fiction script using characters owned by DC comics. It was just something done for fun and really with no thought in it.
A few weeks ago I began making contact with a guy who loved the script, and my writing style, and works in a company that helps with financing and optioning scripts. He said that he had a major friend at Warner Bros. and was looking to give the script to him to atleast let him read it.
We both know that this is a long shot (since they usually hire in store writers) but he felt that we could take a chance and possibly get my name out there.
Now, I'm scared to death to move forward with this because of the legal ramifications. I don't want to get sued by WB nor do I want to have my work stolen.
What are some of you guys thoughts on the matter? I really value everyone's opinions here because a lot more of you know the business better than I would.
If anything would turn out from this, I think the legal matters are going to be between WB and DC comics. WB would have to pay DC royalties or such. As the writer you can write whatever you want. I think you can relax, WB would never make anything without their legal team making sure everything's okay.
Well, WB owns DC Comics so there is no problem there.
I'm just really nervous about doing something that could end in a lawsuit or could leave me in the dog house. If it had been any other work of mine then I would be all over it.
You can't really blame me for having my doubts and concerns.
