I can't quite believe the number of scripts which get posted by writers who never seem to visit the site.

Their scripts remain unread or at least without comment.  I just wonder why?..why post if your bothered if people read it?  Surely if you spend months or even years completing a script you want some feedback.

I totally agree with the members here though in that why should we bother to read 100 pages of someones work and then comment if they themselves aren't bothered.  I'll confess and say I haven't read a huge amount of scripts but I try to read as many shorts as I have time for.

One other thing, If people post on a script, I find it quite ignorant when the author doesn't respond, even a thank you would sufffice.

Anyway, it's not as much a question as a statement but it's something I've had on my mind for a while so I thought I'd get it off my chest.

I've seen a few people who have read a few pages. They either like it or don't, and before they finish the script, comment on the thread for their script asking, "Is the author around here? This script is really good/bad." If they don't respond in a certain number of days/weeks/months, then the script gets bumped down to the bottom.

It used to be that alot of people said the Discussion Board tab was hard to find on the main page, but it was since moved to the top when Don redecorated the site, so there's no excuse to not know that it's here.  Also when you see the Unproduced Scripts page it says "Discuss this script on the discussion board."  I think when Don notifies you that the script is up he also provides a link to the discussion board.

It could be that some people are just too busy and after they post it they don't think twice, or it could be carelessness.

A lot of us want to know if the author is around before we read his or her feature length script.  Often we feel like we wasted our time by reading 120 pages, only to learn that the writer doesn't participate on the boards.  If the author replies, we can also see how he participated.

My suggestion is that for the discussion board we only have members scripts. The main site has nothing to do with us but the message board does.

How we can verify that the scripts is in fact by a current member is simple and that way some regulars who never get reads will.

We should have our SS names listed on the scripts' threads.  From there, we can see if the writer participates on the boards.

Don't we all ready state our SS names when sending in a script? But it is optional. That's the only way I can tell if the author might even come back to read the comments people have left, even if I haven't heard of them, but that doesn't mean they'll come back to check on comments or even reply to ours.

That's actually a very good point. Just because someone's a member doesn't mean they'll respond to comments. There're plenty of members already who have signed up and only posted once or twice. Fact is there's always going to be people who post their scripts who could care less whether or not they receive comments and there's little you can do to get rid of them.

Personally, I don't read scripts by people I've never heard of unless they've proven themselves regularly active members or they ask me personally for an exchange. That way, I never waste my time.

This is a perennial discussion that comes up now and again about non-member (and non-participating member) scripts. There's not really a good fix to it besides adding to the submission form somehow. I would think something like a check box that asks whether or not the author wishes the script to be listed on the discussion board might be something minor. More than that might create a larger workload for Don.

I don't understand why someone would want a script posted here, but not want it in the discussion board.  I've always felt this board's main purpose is to get feedback on our work so we could improve it and improve the odds of selling it.

Maybe people are too afraid that they might get bad reviews or take them too seriously, giving up on screenwriting if their script wasn't "that good."

Bad reviews?  Here?  Nonsense, you say!

If they're afraid of getting bad reviews, wouldn't they just not post the scripts?  What's the purpose of having people read them if you don't want the feedback?

I think, more then likely, people don't know the discussion board exists or, even more likely, just don't care. They probably just post their scripts in hopes that a producer will read them.

You're most likely right.  There are people who post their scripts on every site they can, hoping that Hollywood will find it.  There's a guy here named Max Alexander Malloy who posted three of the worst scripts you could ever imagine.  The writing is so bad that they're fun to read.  I was laughing out loud at some of this stuff.  And they're so racist (anti-white)!  I've read only two so far but want to get to the third one.  I recommend people look them up.

Maybe people don't want reviews because their scared they might be bad but from what I've read here most reviews offer good advice, even when the script is bad.  And surely if you right a script you would prefer some pointers before anyone from the industry goes near it.
