Why is it that when we refer to ourselves in writing, the letter i is capitalized even when it's not someone's name or the start of a sentence? For example: It's just me, myself and I. Shouldn't it be: It's just me, myself and i?

I'm afraid that's just the way the cookie crumbles, my friend.

In other words, I don't think there's any logical reason for the capitalization of I. As far as I know, it's always been that way.

Interesting, Martin!

The rules of language are like accounting in a sense that everything is made up, but since we all use the language everyday, it's something we need to use.

PS Accounting is stupid.  Governor Greg's accounting consists of 3 accounts; what you have, what you owe, and what people owe you.  There.  Done.

Quoted from Martin

Hmm... I think sometimes I should just keep my mouth shut (or in this case, my fingers off the keyboard).

Anyway, thanks for the info, Martin.

I take no credit for the info. I'm powered by Google

In German, they capitalize every single noun. I used to think it was stupid, but having tried to learn the language I realize it's the only hope I have of spotting a noun in a sentence.

The I-thing is just something that seems like such a big part of the English language. I can't stand reading people who don't capitalize it. It just looks really, really wrong.
