I have been a casual reader of this site for a while and have decided to post some of my scripts. I want to look like I know what I'm doing, so any advice on posting would be greatly appreciated. For example:
Should I copyright before posting? What file format is preferred (I use Movie Magic)? Is it okay to post opening scenes?
I look forward hearing from all of you. I love this site!
Welcome to the boards. 1. If you're worried about it then yes. 2. A PDF seems to be the way to go. I don't know what formats are available with movie magic but I see a bunch saved in the final draft format which excludes anyone without it. 3. I would only do that in the work in progress section. You could do it in the short section, but you'll get a bunch of "seems incomplete" comments.
One more thing. Read and comments other scripts. There's a general "i got you're back, you got mine" when it comes to readings around here. It may seem unfair but between the low quality that sometimes gets in and people who post scripts and disappear forever it helps people weed out who is serious and who is not. Anyway, Velcome!
You use MM then it's easy just to print to PDF. That is the easiest for everyone to read. So post in that format.
Start off by reading scripts and commenting. That will prevent some from feeling ripped when they read yours. Give and take.
Oh yeah and don't be controversial, avoid that, lay low if things get heated.
Overall, enjoy this site, it really is a place to network and to talk to real people that have the same passion for writing. Just get to know the personalities.
That's it, I have a promise to fulfill of my own now.

Thanks for the advice. I was planning to post as .pdf. I'm in a screenwriting workgroup locally, and we have the same rules: read and comment, and then expect to be read and commented on. I think that's fair.
I typically read from the "Unproduced Scripts" section. Any other places to read from that I can make comments on?
[*]Should I copyright before posting? What file format is preferred (I use Movie Magic)? Is it okay to post opening scenes?
Several scripts have been plagiarized from these boards. Protect yourself.
.pdf or .doc or .rtf work best here
Posting incomplete scripts is a great way to piss people off.
Read some scripts while waiting for yours to be posted. If you've posted a feature, read features. If you've posted a short, read shorts. This will encourage other people to read your scripts.
Don't feel that you're opinion means less than others' when reviewing a script. And don't post one line reviews. Go into detail. Ask questions if you have to. Lame, five word reviews will result you getting lame, five word reviews.
