I have been wanting to make a original script for a long time and finally was able to finish one a few days ago. I don't know if i should show anyone it though because it has a lot of nihilism in it. I got some of the ideas from Gummo and the rest is history. If i was to go to an agent and send the script that i wrote to them, do you think they might consider it? I really would want it to be made into a movie, but i know that it is  very sick and depressing (honestly).

You have to show it to people to get a fresh view on it. The writer can do so much with his or her work alone. But before showing it to an agent, let someone else see it to advise you on how to edit it. You will be surprised on the material that people have written on.

Just Murdered by Sean Elwood (Zombie Sean) and Gabriel Moronta (Mr. Ripley) - (Dark Comedy, Horror) All is fair in love and war. A hopeless romantic gay man resorts to bloodshed to win the coveted position of Bridesmaid. 99 pages.

You are right about showing it to people, but i am not sure i want to put it on a site like this. I don't want someone to steal my idea away and then i have nothing. I could show it to some of my neighbors, although i am sure they will hate it. Most of my neighbors are guys and girls who like movies that are blood free and stuff. Is it safe to post it on this site without it getting stolen?

A couple of scripts have been stolen from here in the past, but not too often.

But if you register your screenplay with the WGA or whatever copyright organization you want, you should be considerably safer. It's not free, though.

Either way, if you want exposure, you're gonna have to take a few risks.

I think it is good to post your scripts here, because this site is filled with writers like you who will critique your work adequately. Just remember what I said about registering it.

Well i do not want to spend money copyrighting it right now and everything. I will probably post up a different script that i completed a long time ago. It isn't as good as the one i am currently talking about (at least in my point of view), but it is pretty good. Thanks for all the advice guys.

Quoted from mcornetto
It doesn't really matter, we're all going to die anyway.

Words to er...live by, Michael.

You know I was thinking this very thing last night. I mean, why bother stopping global warming or seeking alternatives to war? It takes up so much time and effort. Wouldn't it just be easier to accept that we're all gonna die and stop fighting it?

Back on topic, if you watch movies like: Se7en, Requiem for a Dream, Fight Club and Happiness you'll realize that pretty much anything goes. So yes, nihilism is okay.

Sorry to reply again, i just had one more question. I was looking everywhere and couldn't find if it was okay to send ANY kind of script into SimplyScripts. What i mean is that my scripts have a lot of violence and sexuality in them. Can someone please tell me if there is a limit to how much violence/sexuality can be put in a script that is sent to SimplyScripts?

We've seen some scripts with a lot of sex and violence in them.  Unless you're writing porn, you should be okay.

Thanks for telling me Phil. By the way, nihilism is basically the belief that life is meaningless. Meaning that no one cares about anything and does whatever they want.

as for nihilism, if it's what you really want to write, then it's okay. be true to yourself. If you're not the person who can stand behind things you write, why did you write them in the first place? Your friends or neighbors may not understand but every person whose opinion you respect will bring you a fresh perspective. With the internet, you can start getting people to look at your work and remain faceless until the project is suited into something you can support fully. If you want to write professionally, you have to learn to promote your works as if it's the best thing ever, even if you don't totally agree.

and even if you're not finished with the script, it's a good idea to register/copyright at some stage so you have the ideas dated. if you do all that and someone steals your idea, don't fret because with the proof of the original idea comes a paycheck.
