I e-mailed the owner of the site about splitting out shorts and features, and he really liked the idea. I'm not sure it will happen this month, but my sense is that Alffy will definitely get his moment in the sun...
I could bombard them with 40+ shorts!
and let's hope for everyone else that Mr. Z don't decide to join!
I'm not gonna hold my breath - things are quite dynamic over there, and Alffy held the top spot for almost a week straight it seemed before the script that's now #2 unseated him...
I just signed up using my phone but only to hold my name as a place holder for now. I don't know if it's one of those only one name per site things but I'd be a miss if someone took my damn name.
Anyways, I'll check into it. The whole up and down thing I'm seeing with people's scripts seems like a bit too much stat tracking. Almost as if you're playing an RPG with your scripts. I dunno, maybe not. It seems like it's laid out well, though.
The guy at #1 is a really good guy and very active on the site. I read his first act and gave him my comments in an e-mail. True, it needs work, but he's not a bad writer...
I fanned it a couple of weeks ago, partly because I appreciated that he was talking up GA for me and partly because he's so active there...
No, I don't think he's a bad writer, and I know he's active since his name takes about 80% of the front page, I just think he could benefit further from uploading another draft. I glanced through your script as well (haven't read fully yet, but hope to soon) and I think yours should rate higher than his.
I think they should figure out a way to separate shorts and features in terms of rankings.
Thanks Andrew - fingers crossed, but I've seen weird things at that site, so I'll be on pins and needles until 10:00 am Thursday (yes, it's British time, and I've calculated it to the penny...)
And how do you like that guy telling you to eff off after you took the time to read his stuff?
You handled it great, though. Much better than I would have. Guys like that get my Brooklyn up, if you know what I mean...
I don't understand what his problem was. He only showed 40 pages of a 159 page script, poorly formatted, and lashes back at because I didn't read the whole thing and that I said his formatting was all wrong.
I kept my cool the first time, but when he claimed that the only thing wrong with his formatting was the only thing I pointed out (it's not neccessary to place an "A" in a slugline, example...INT. A COURTHOUSE rather then INT. COURTHOUSE) I lost all respect for the guy. The addition to his synopsis suggested that he was serious about his writing, but yet he was oblivious to his own errors.
He can call me and tell me whatever he likes, but I gave him a review that he is going to get many, many more times, for as long as he plays stupid.
There are some interesting characters on that site though.
On another note, has anyone recieved any interest in their scripts on that site?
Thanks, Lightfoot. I'm hoping as well, but my script isn't as good as others there so I'm kind of hoping for theirs to go first.
And, actually, I got an e-mail today about doing 12 Seconds, but I've been getting those since I put it on SS, so I'm not sure whether it's because it's up here or up there.
Seriously, though, that guy had no clue what he was talking about, so I'd say f*** him. Let him not learn anything and keep yourself in good standing. =)
Okay, I think it's time to push Shelton's "Pimp Juice" back into the top 10 and beyond...
Alffy and Brian M could use some help as well...
The key is to go there and increase your reader rating. Those who are already fans of Mike's, Alffy's and Brian's scripts who read other things can push the scripts up.
In a lot of cases you can do it by reviewing work you've already read here on SS, or by reviewing some shorts, which takes no time at all...
For my part I've recommended SS to a couple of the better writers on Circalit and they promised to check it out. They might then have an interest in reading work on Circalit posted by SS members...
