Sounds like Circalit isn't the place for me then. I can only imagine what they'd say if I got a hold of some of those pieces of shit.
I always amazes me how people think scripts that totally suck are good. Truth is, very few scripts are good, and that includes Pro scripts that get made into movies.
Oh, I posted a couple fairly critical reviews, and one of the guys I reviewed posted:
"I didn't know we had Robert McKee on Circalit doing reviews of members work."
"Sorry folks, it not Robert McKee, it's just someone acting like him. Go back to what you were doing."
Perhaps it wasn't aimed at me, but seeing as I just reviewed his work, I'm guessing it is.
Yes... you have to tread lightly over there... some people can't handle honest feedback that can only help. I only return reads to the one's who've read my work in the past.
Anyone needs a fan vote... just let me know... done deal.
I only return reads to the one's who've read my work in the past.
Yeah, I'll probably just take that route or just ditch the site altogether. I'm not really in the mood to go out of my way to read script and then feel like I have to write sugar-coated reviews. I feel like I was constructive in what I wrote, but apparently the writers did not mirror my feelings.

Sounds like Circalit isn't the place for me then. I can only imagine what they'd say if I got a hold of some of those pieces of s***.
And Jeff, I'm pretty sure they'd have to shut down the site if you started reviewing. I don't think they could handle it.
Yeah Matt, I forgot to tell you it's a kinder, gentler board, that Circalit...
And you need to loved in order to win... (0:
Tricky stuff, running in between the raindrops. I've given negative reviews in which I also mention some positives, but if I open a script that pretty much totally blows I just shut it and I don't review it.
I can't even figure out WTF is going on at that site or how to use it. Am I that stupid or what?
I just logged on for the first time in months and had all these friend requests. I accepted the ones I knew, and didn't do anything with the ones I didn't know. I'm assuming Kaisersousa is AJR, right? What's the deal with the friends thing, anyway?
I also just joined some group called Butcher's Block, where it says something about honest reviews.
Should I try and get acquainted with the site or ditch it altogether? I don't even understand how to read or review scripts, where they are, how to chat with anyone...damn, I sound like I'm computer illiterate!
I didn't take up the offer to join the site, and thought I'd made the right choice since for a while it sounded like a total mess. To those who've made themselves regulars over there - is it worth joining up? Is it a more useful community than SS? Less useful? It seems to have worked for Anthony...how have others found it?
I'd never leave SS, of course. Just wondering if there's a big screenwriting party going on somewhere and I made a mistake by not RSVPing.
They do seem to be a little sensitive over there regarding reviews.
I didn't like the way someone asked me to trade a fan rating for any of his scripts. I'd only rate a script if I thought it was good, not to climb the leader board just because of trading fan for fan scripts.
How will you ever know if that particular script is any good?
The rating system and climbing the ladder board sucks.
I never took them up on the invite either. Got an e-mail not that long ago about them upgrading the site and how it's so much better now.
I haven't been there in months, but from what I saw initially and read from you guys here, I think I strongly dislike the fan/vote system. Sounds almost like "who's the most popular in high school". If the members can't take honest criticism on top of that then I know it's probably not for me.
I hate popularity contests for writers. That is largely where the anonymous One-Week Challenge came from. Nobody has to worry about sucking up to anybody.
If I got a review over there, I would not feel like I could trust it -- so I am hard-pressed to invest the time making a "name" over there.
No site is perfect, but those who can take their lumps are better-suited to a site like this.
Having said all that -- I might still put my SoulShadows over there if the rest of you guys are going to do it.
I have to say Bert that I was skeptical at first and I still take all the praise - and some of the criticism - over there with a grain of salt, but there are some pretty good writers at Circalit...
(Another person who uses the name) gh0stwr1ter happens to be my favorite there. I recommended SS to him and he said he'd check it out...
I do think that the talent at SS is better, though Circalit is starting to attract some writers with IMDB credits. They're just not the active ones as they're there waiting for a producer to contact them.
And it is a game - call it American Idol for screenplays or what have you. But I think it's all worth it in the end because you're not there so much for true opinions from the other writers - you're there to win the prize and get the opinions of professionals, and hopefully through that get your work noticed.
It's not to say that other writers there don't have helpful things to say, because they do. But nothing replaces SS for honest and unbiased critiques.
