Discussion is spelled wrong.

You have to wonder how long it's been like this... and no one noticed.

that's because this is a single-sided discussion.

I can only imagine that this typo has been around since the early days of the board.  I just thought it was funny as it's a writers' site.

'dogglebe' is missing an upper case 'D'. Unless it isn't a proper noun.

Is it even a noun? Or a verb? I dogglebe, you dogglebe, he / she / it dogglebes...

dogglebe is an adjective from Old English.  It means a 'scholarly.'

I see this kind of thing all of the time, even in those pretty published books with the nice fancy covers. What it means to me, is that they're pushing books through as fast as they can just to make money, but they don't really care.

Not necessarily. People might read yours if they are intrigued enough by your logline.

With 100% sincerity, if everyone were asking that exact same question, and I do mean EVERYONE on the planet, how many reads and reviews would get done?

It's a math thing.

"Do I necessary have to review others script in order for them to review mine?"

Anyone who does review other's work with almost zero reciprocation (jwent6688 comes to mind), is a angel and wonderful person.
Just pay it forward, please.

The reason why I asked is because as a freshman in this game, I feel I am not there yet to judge/give somebody a meaningful review...yet.

As I write my own script I would love for somebody to give me review, yes, BUT (there's a but) I don't want people  to write something just because it's says so in the "secret code" of SS.

There is no secret code here. We're just letting you know that if you want people to read your scripts, best way is to read active boardmember's scripts.

And don't feel you can't review other scripts because you're no good at it. After you've seen a movie, you tell your friends if you liked it or not don't you? Just mention what you did like and what you didn't. It doesn't have to be pages and pages of page notes.

Every now and then, we get people who leave their scripts at our door and wait for reviews.  Most of them do not get read because we don't know who they are and assume that they're not critiquing anyone else's work.  On even rarer occasions, we get people who leave us their scripts and, two or three months later, write their first post asking why no one has commented on his or her script.

I remember one person who refused to read scripts.  He was too busy getting his script ready for production but wanted us to read his and help him before he started shooting.  Another person would occasionally chime in and say that his connection was so bad that he could only come on the boards to check the status of his script and if anyone reviewed it.

If you want someone to read your script and critique it, without returning the favor, there are script doctors out there.  You just have to pay them for their services.

If you don't think you can properly critique someone's work, then learn.  Read some scripts and see if you feel the same as others who have commented on it.  Do you agree with what they say about dialog, characterization, pacing, etc.?

Everything, here, is a learning process.  And we have no problem hearing from the new people.

That describes me exactly! I only read the scripts here because it helps me realize what a superior writer I am when compared to all of you.

@05c4r,

I actually learned more commenting on peoples scripts here then posting my own. I just read a couple of outdated screenwriting books and would come here and tell people "You can't do that in a sceenplay!". They would promptly call me an idiot, and they were right. But, I learned.

Also, just make sure you respond to comments when you post a script. When I see a couple people have read a script and the writer is nowhere to be found, I'll skip it.

James

@ Me

I understand what you mean, but when I'm with a friend and we see a movie I just tell them if I like it or not , as you said. I don't go and philosophize the hole she-bang-bang on a deeper level, my friend don't care. Yes, I explain what I liked and not, but then again it comes with a view of a not constructive feedback.

You probably gonna tell me to get new friends

It's a whole other thing when you read a script than see it on a screen. Maybe it's just me because reading is not my strongest side, but I have a pretty darned good imagination though -- I just can't seem to stick my imagination with other peoples writing..

@dogglebe & James

I don't agree with people who do that at all, but I rather take a guy who knows what his talking about instead of a guy who is reviewing because he "have" to in order for somebody to read his, but again guys I understand the concept -- help me to help you so you can help me...
