Hey all, I just joined this site and read some posts and scripts (They are pretty enthralling!) My question is- what competitions are out there for screenwriting? I am quite eager to get my work out onto the mainstream. I haven't finished my first script yet, so I will do that and post for feedback ofc. In the meantime I will read other people's work and try and be able to comment on them and keep up to date. Hope to hear from you.

David.

Moviebytes.com has a section on competitions that include reviews by those who have entered them.  There are some comps that seek scripts of specific genres, lengths, etc.

Thanks- I also live in the UK. Perhaps it will be different around here, unless competitions are international.

Hello RD... hey thats my initials!!

Welcome to SS and well done for acknowledging you need to read, review and generally give back before posting and asking for feedback.

SS is a good place to learn and reading/reviewing part forms a decent part of that learning curve.

In terms of competitions this site holds a One Week Challenge (one is coming soon) which is worth try if you feel up to it (Tip - don't get your formatting wrong). There is a seperate thread for the OWC so you may want to dig up some old ones and see what happened.

Others around include Movie Poet if you join up and in the UK i have recently entered two at Circalit.

all the best.

Most of the horror script competitions have deadlines in June and July, if that's what you're writing.  Results are usually announced around Halloween.

Thanks guys! I have noticed about the OWC and I'm pretty much up for it- I'm interested in a range of genres especially comedy and horror. I also been reading up on the format and layout but I'm more than happy to accept feedback to improve, cheers.

The only choice you have with the OWC is whether to participate or not.  Genre is usually given to you as well as a theme.  Or some other restrictions.
