Hi guys...

I've recently given permission to a film producer based in London to film one of my short scripts. I was just wondering if I should expect frequent contact from him, or if I'll barely hear from him over the next couple of months. I've never had an offer so I'm way out of my comfort zone here.

If anyone could help, it would be appreciated.

Daniel

Different people equals different expectations of what "in contact" means.

The busyness of ones life also has an impact as well.

If this guy is super busy, you may not hear from him/her at all unless they need something from you. That’s not to say they are being rude or keeping you out of the loop.

It just means they are busy.

On the other hand, have you ever been nagged to death by someone? Isn’t the first question that crosses your mind, don’t they have better things to do rather than bother me?

It's funny how that works.

My suggestion is, give them a few weeks and drop a quick line saying hello. No pressure, no in detail question asking, just hello.

Most will reply. If not, don't be offended.

Oh and by the way, CONGRATS, on getting a short film done. Enjoy the experience.

Thanks Shawn

I'll be sure not to bother him for a wee while then. At the end of the day, my work on the script is done. It's now down to him and what he does with it isn't really my business.

Thanks Shawn

I have dealt with quite a few producers by now and they range from getting permission to use your script and never hear from them again until you get to see the final film to producers trying to be nice and involve you with everything of the production. Personally I dislike the ones that try to be nice. I don't dislike them as people, I'm just not that interested in their process. I actually prefer the ones that keep you posted everynow and then when something big happens. Like, one email when pre-post starts, another when shooting wraps and another when post is done.  Maybe that's just me.....

Shawn - I will definitely keep the people on SS posted on what's going on. Without this website, the producer probably wouldn't have found me.

bert - Thanks for that link. I did take a look around the threads, but didn't find anything, so I posted here. Thanks, it has been very helpful.

Angry Bear - As I've never really dealt with producers before I can't tell you which one I prefer, but I also enjoy directing as well as writing, so maybe it's just my interest in both hobbies that leaves me wanting to know as much as possible.

For what it's worth, I've had similar experiences to Bear, in that I have one film in pre-production and I see most of the castings docs, have edited the production package and have essentially daily calls with the producer/director, as well as an invite to be on set for the shoot.  On the other hand, I have another producer/director who needs me to do rewrites, but I get a few notes, send the script over, and radio silence descends for weeks or months.  Just depends on the filmmakers.  My advice would be to be professional in all your contact with them, of course, and let them be the ones to reach out to you.
