While there seems to be a fair bit of discussion as to how we can all help Don, I thought I'd put an idea forward.

How about an eBook displaying some of the greatest work from SS? I've heard that getting books out onto the internet is quite easy. We could select a few scripts from each script group (lets say maybe 10 shorts and 3-5 feature length scripts.)

All proceeds of any sale we make on the eBooks can go to SS.

If that one book is successful, we could make it a series of books and so on.

What does everyone think? Ideas need feedback too!

Think it's a fine idea, Dan.  It might require a bit of red tape to cut through but it's a wonderful gesture to Don and a very cool opportunity for SS writers.

It'd outside the box thinking, Dan, which I like. I think there might be an issue with publishing scripts that the writers still want the rights to. What if a studio wants to buy the script? Does Don now have the rights to it, since he published with the author's permission?

I'm not a lawyer, so I don't know how it works. Someone would have to investigate that stuff.

But I like that you think creatively! Can never have enough of that.

I started a similiar thread yesterday.  Not much response although I still think it'd be an interesting idea if a few writers teamed up, wrote a script with the idea of if it sells, then Don gets a certain percentage of the profits.   Guy's been runnin' this site for how long?    It'd be nice to see him get paid.

You could start a think tank of script ideas.  Narrow it down to one, then let the collaboration begin.   Just my three cents.

Thanks Kevin. There may be some things that we would have to look into in terms of the law. I'm thinking there must be a way around that...

Michael: It was your idea that actually sparked this one. Maybe, we could combine the two ideas? So, still have that script collaboration, but publish the script as an eBook, rather than trying to sell it...?

Any thoughts?

Dan

Some questions that popped into my head.

Why would anyone want an ebook when there are thousands of scripts available online for free?

I could be wrong, but I think Don is too busy as it is. Why would he want to spend time on this? Second, if it's all about giving back to Don, there is a donate button on the home page...

Quoted from Grandma Bear

Second, if it's all about giving back to Don, there is a donate button on the home page...

Thing is, not everyone can afford to just cough up some money. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate everything Don does for us, but I'm 15. I don't work a full time job. And I certainly don't have a bit of spare change. Believe me, if I did, I'd be pressing that 'donate button' right now. This eBook is my way of giving back. My way of trying to raise money, so I can give back. It doesn't necessarily have to work, but it's the thought that counts...
