I'm looking for some good/distinct/memorable/(for good or bad reasons)/famous action movie scenes and sequences to rip off pay homage to in my own little take on the genre.

Specifically I could do with a safe-cracking scene, a distract the bad guys scene, and a car chase (thinking Bullit here maybe) ---

--- but any and all ideas would be really useful for getting the creative juices flowing.

Thanks!

What good are choices if they're all bad?

Here's a couple to get you started:

Safe-cracking scene:

I'm not a big fan of these. Usually, they're boring unless there's something else going on. Could always go with the classic standby "Heat" or "The Dark Knight", where there was more going on.

Distract the bad guys scene:

Not sure what you mean by this, unless you mean the main characters have to get something done and little time. Could always go with "Mission: Impossible", I suppose.

Car chase:

Pretty simple and straightforward. "Bad Boys" had a really good one, "The French Connection", "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (and "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines", for that matter). The list could go on and on for those.

Safe cracking:
Die Hard - It took a lot of things to happen before the safe opened.  I liked that.

Distract Bad Guys:
Usually it is the bad guys trying to distract good guys to get away with what they are doing.  Sometimes the good guys have to "become" bad guys to trick them into thinking they are "with" them.  In that case, maybe...
Point Break - I know, cheesy movie but liked how he had to play bad guy to get in with them.
I know there are others, but can't think of them right now.

Car Chase:
The Bourne Identity - really good.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith - loved the banter as they chased.
Knight and Day - like the way he was casually talking to June as the chase went on.

Not seen They Live but just added it to my 'to do' list... bad boys is a nice add, as one of my guys is will smith in disguise (my cheap characterisation method) and the french connection... can't believe i didn't think of that, the forced smack addiction is perfect...

Same with die hard, completely forgot about the huge safe (although my best scene (well, better than the others) so far is a take off of the four legs and ready to travel bit from dh3)

and although i can't do the chase scene from mr and mrs (as it's one guy in a wheelchair being chased by a nurse) --- that's a good call coz i have an action lady to work in some fun for...

Thanks for the replies, they're just what i needed.

(the distract the bad guys - looking for a sequence where one good guy provokes a villain into chasing them so another good guy can get into x,y,z - in this case an office...)

Ah, I remembered one.  Bourne Ultimatum.  When he tricked them into leaving the CIA office and he broke into the director's office to get the files - which were, incidentally, in a SAFE!!!  He called him on the phone to get his voice (which is needed to get into the safe) and the director told him to come into his office to talk about it - Bourne told him that he was already in his office.  Good stuff.

It's not as so much an all out action scene, but played more for suspense...

In the movie "Sneakers" there was a lot of distraction and misdirection.
Taking a target out to dinner to crack his security system, etc.

Check it out!

Safe cracking scene?  Have you seen 'The Bank Job' with Jason Statham, it's not bad and I'm sure there's a safe crack in it?

Check out my scripts...if you want to, no pressure.

Hell these help loads, thank you everyone so much. I was struggling to come up with anything --- memorable --- and the story was going into a real hole of mundane nothingness. Not seen Thief, but added it to my list of to-watch... Loved the Bourne series take on action (one of my fave fight scenes ever is knife vs rolled up magazine, just ace) and I think that distraction scene's a good fit for the story too, thanks. Sneakers HAHAHA proper old school interwebz. Bank Job was on tonight... and I missed it - but it'll be on next week again I think, so now have excuse to do research. Italian Job. Can't believe I didn't think of that one, same with Oceans. And Ronin - hehe, love it. So many innocent bystanders get mown down in the chases, it's almost criminal.

I couldn't think of a single thing last night so owe everyone big time - inspirations all over the place. (Of course, now my head's fried with more possibility than I could have possibly imagined... but I like having my head fried )...

Thanks again.

You could check out the movie “Man on a Ledge” which was released earlier this year. I think this basically covers your first two topics in one go.

So many good car chases and I see a few have been mentioned – I’ll add The Rock, Matrix Reloaded,  Die Hard With A Vengeance and Back to the Future part 2 where Marty Mcfly uses the trusty hoverboard.

There's a pretty decent CHASE SCENE in Bad Boys 2.
Also the second Matrix movie.
Minority Report has a few good scenes.

Interesting... hmmm... very interesting... yes. Yes I see... *lightbulb pops*

And thanks to all replies - I'm still struggling through. Was going to be a Christmas script, but it might be Christmas 2013 now!
