Hey guys. Just a quick question from me. Does anyone know where I can go to learn how to write up script coverage? Since I started writing, I've always been somewhat interested in getting a job doing coverage sometime. I've heard the people working in that department of the industry are absolutely brilliant at picking holes in plots, which is a valuable skill I would like to have.

Additionally, do I need to be qualified to get a job with it. I know I shouldn't be thinking about a job just yet, but I'm just curious.

It would be great if you guys could get back to me.

Dan

Hey Dan,

I can guess what you want this for !!!! Hee Hee

The link below does describe the process well, and has a template.
http://www.lightsfilmschool.com/blog/script-coverage-example-template/1498/

Also here is a PDF that may help
http://www.google.com.au/url?s.....YvNck3kXDCT-FkxAVCsg

Also here is a sample script coverage that's worth a look at.

Let me know how you go or alternatively just google "Script Coverage template".

Alex

Screenplay Readers has a service they started called Screenplay Mogul.
It's a free five hour video that helps you get into and start a business.
Seems to be down at the moment.
But they also offers helpful articles on the subject.

Thanks Alex and Brett,

Alex, I did google it and I ended up downloading a PDF template. I feel that simply googling it won't be enough. I was looking for a more one-on-one approach to it, kinda like simplyscripts... just for script coverage, instead of scripts. Nevertheless, thanks for the links.

Brett, I've had a look at your suggestions and they seem incredibly helpful. I don't want to start a business in script coverage or anything like that just yet. Just want to gain some experience in the field to see how it all turns out.

Cheers,

Dan

Hi Dan - in the UK industrial scripts is pretty much the standard:

http://www.industrialscripts.co.uk/

They run a number of courses - one of them being "Effective Script Reading ... " which focusses on both the reading end and the finding work end.

They know their stuff and I've had coverage from one person who used to work for them and then set up her own business - and she was busy.

I think the courses are UK based, but you could maybe contact them and see if there is an AUS/NZ (which one are you??   ) version.

Cheers Simon,

Will definitely have a look and see what they have to offer. I will check to see if the courses are only UK based or if I can get into the course as well.

Dan

EDIT: Yeah, I have to be in the UK to apply

All you need is experience in that field. You get the experience by answering any ads you see that asks for readers.  Be prepared to be used only once and that's it (which happened to me). .

That's how far my experience with that went. lol.

I was doing some pro bono script reading from a production company last spring.  The idea was that, after reading some scripts, I'd be able to get the company to look at my work.

After reading/reviewing four or five god-awful scripts, I got suspicious that the company was charging reader's fees.  When I hinted at this with the company, they vanished.  Didn't send me anymore scripts and didn't reply to any of my e-mails.

Let's be careful out there.

Phil,

So the company was basically making money off you without you knowing?  YIKES!

I am new to the boards, but it sounds like you are a real "go-getter".  Do you care to share anything you have done in the past that did end up getting your scripts read?

Cheers!
