Ok, I'm being lazy, but...

Films with a cynical protagonist

I am trying to assemble a list of films where the main flaw of the protagonist was being cynical and he needs to change into something more positive. Will probably go with other flaws and habits, eg selfish.

A recent example which comes to mind is Ghost Town.

Ideas?

Don't know if you're going comedy or drama route, but two Jim Carrey movies-- Bruce Almighty and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind had him playing cynical characters.

Others:
In the Company of Men
Wag the Dog
Network

I can't decide if Aaron Eckhart was playing a cynical character in Thank You for Smoking or if he was the most optimistic (delusional?) character ever.

Some of my scripts:

Bounty (TV Pilot) -- Top 1% of discoverable screenplays on Coverfly
I'll Be Seeing You (short) - OWC winner
The Gambler (short) - OWC winner
Skip (short) - filmed
Country Road 12 (short) - filmed
The Family Man (short) - filmed
The Journeyers (feature) - optioned

Sideways, American Splendor, Gran Torino, Oslo August 31st (my favourite film of 2012), Somewhere, Annie Hall, most Woody Allen films actually, basically any film noir.

I'll probably think of more when I'm in the shower/ doing another task which allows me to think.

Film noir in general should be a goldmine -- Mitchum, Bogart etc -- although if you want the flaw to change, that might be trickier.

Thanks folks

My genre will be, until changed, comedy/rom com

I just need to get my head about a cynical person doing something they don't want to do, but for their own gain, which they eventually do well even though they are negative through out, but ends up being the resolution. Make sense?

Anyway,  thanks again

I have a script or two, Bill, that may help.  Let me know if you're interested.
