To be honest, I was kind of hoping for another Killer game. We've had two OWCs since our last. But, an OWC would be nice, too.

I would love to do an OWC or maybe a 7WC. We all need more practice at features. I dunno...I'm game for anything.

A 7WC would require a time commitment I don't have at the mo'. I thought they and the Killer Games were always done as 'extra' events anyway??

Would def. consider an OWC!

I vote for a 7owc. Need my creative juices flowing.   Hopefully I can finish my script so I can participate in this.

A OWC would be good.

It makes SS quite eventful, while handing out classic scripts like Cowboy Sam.

IMHO, shorts are a lot of fun and I LOVE them. I would like a OWC...however, as a writer, features are a lot more useful and worth your time. Just my $0.02.

But how many people actually work on their 7WC scripts afterwards, making them more salable?  I think the OWCs are fun excercises that can be forgotten about later.

Missed the last one.  I'd like to give it another crack.

For the record, what's a 7WC?  I'm guessing from the comments that it's the first few pages of a possible feature?  Anyways, I'm hoping for another chance.

From my understanding, it's just like the OWC. You develop and write an entire feature in seven weeks, based around a given theme.

And I could definitely use some motivation to finish a feature.

The 7WC is a great exercise and has produced some terrific scripts so naturally I did not partake in it haha.

The OWC will be announced a few days in advance, and then the theme/genre/guidelines will be posted usually on a Friday and you'll have one week to write a short script between usually 10-12 pages.  Then the scripts will be posted with the authors anonymous for a week (though I've always liked the idea of skipping that part) and you read a few to get involved and vote on which you liked the best.

NO!!!!  You read them all, or at least attempt to read them all.

How in the world could anyone vote for their favorite if they only read a few?

Make the commitment to read every script if you enter. It's really only fair.

Agreed, Jeff - always have.  But what percentage of entrants wind up reading all of them?  Though actually in all fairness I'd say the number has gone up in recent OWC's and it would be nice if everyone did read everything but realistically I don't think that will happen.

I hear ya, bro.  I do.

I try to live in a perfect world but realize it's so far from perfect.  Maybe that's why I'm always let down by pretty much everything.

I also know most peeps have lives and committing to reading 200-400 pages of scripts in a few days is asking alot.  But, those who do enter should understand that they will most likely receive 20+ reads within a few days of posting, which is hard to find anywhere else.

The problem is we tend to get new members join right around OWC starts and then they post their script, never read anyone elses, and disappear soon after.

That's always true and always an issue.

Maybe Don can include a note of some kind for all entries by "members" with less than 100 posts or something?  I don't know.  I'll read them all, at least I'll attempt to - if they're too poorly written, I'll at least post feedback on why I stopped where I did.

Jeff, I used to try to read them all. When they are 40 or more, this is what I now do:

I commit to reading at least 2 or 3 a day. In the early days, I pick the scripts that no one has reviewed, because I know how momentum effects the reading process.

As it gets later in the week, then I turn into a bandwagon guy to a degree. If a script doesn't have a lot of reads, and the first few reviews are rough, I skip it to make sure I read all of the better ones.

So it's a mixed bag. It's simply hard to read 40 plus scripts for me, especially if many are confusing. And I confuse easily!

That's why Don usually post 5 scripts at a time. To give people time to read each one.

I review a little differently. I go in order of scripts entered. However, I will admit that if I don't enter a contest, I certainly won't read them all. I'll check out about 5-10 and only review if I find something I really like.

I try to read them all but rarely manage to. First I read the ones that catch my interest by title and logline. Then I look at the ones with the fewest replies. As the deadline approaches I look at the first few comments. If they're unanimous that the script is poor I'll skip it since I probably wouldn't end up voting for it. Then when I'm done reading what I think are the contenders I'll go back to read the ones that have buzz (like Cowboy Sam) to see what the fuss is all about.

I wish I had time to read them all but I don't. And I'm okay with it. All the entries get a healthy amount of feedback and votes, it all works out in the end.

One Wank Challenge.

Originated in Arizona a few years back. Amateur scriptwriters compete to masturbate only ONCE for an entire week.

Here's a list of the winners:

Hmm, looks like no one has ever been able to fulfil the requirements. I guess there's always next time...

I think I am in the minority, but I liked the first ten pages - of a feature - challenge.

This was both a decent writing challenge but 'could' then lead on to a feature for those who like their idea.

To be honest I don't mind either way.

Terrific! A 50 Shades of Grey themed OWC.

Second thoughts, some of those are going to be tough to read.

X-rated?

Sweet!  I won't even have to write a script no matter what the theme is, I'm sure I'll have something that fits in my back catalogue.

On a serious note, though, I would never do that.
