Can I assume by the lack of response, poor housekeeping and abundance of Dead links and links that go to defunct sites that Simply Scripts is in its final throws?

No Buzz since May, site attributes that havent been used in 2 years etc.

I realize this is a farm site but who's running the farm?

But thats not where the story ends.... theres twists and turns and a coupla' bends.

Babz Buzz has moved to Writer Arena.

As far as dead links go, I imagine Don, the webmaster, just being busy.

Stick around. There should be an OWC coming up shortly.

Cryptic?, How so?

I can see that the forum is used by a dozen or so people but how about the rest of the site.
I did upload a script a few weeks ago and in the interim have thoroughly perused the site.
Ive found most everything is dated and am wondering if I should move on.

Michael Cornetto's blog hasnt been touched in a year
Babs Buzz hasn't had any movement since it landed here in the spring
Writing contest link on the first page leads to a defunct site
Script of the day is on auto
No administrative function since Sept. 22

Im sure there is alot more but I thought I'd query the forum users as to what they thought.
Hard to get excited about an ad machine with never changing content.

I did read a dozen or so scripts in the unproduced section but frankly, I have no basis for comment on any of them.

Slow but worth it?
Tedious but addictive?
Home of the Garden Weasel?

..

So what's the name of your script and I'll check it out.  I've got a couple of reads ahead of me, but I'll read it when I get a chance.  If you read someone's script, at least leave a comment out there that you read it so we know you are around.

The forum reply's are timely. Thanks!

I really am not comfortable commenting on someones else's work when I have no ass. Im a published magazine article/story/Bio writer but know little about this corner of the sheet.

I uploaded twice actually. Once in docx which I later noticed was a defunct version. (erase please).
The second one was in pdf and complete.

"American Values" is the title.

Im really in no hurry.

Oh, and I see now where the Buzz moved from here, not to here. Got it.

Thanks.

As stated before, Babz Buzz is still going. Check out Writer Arena and you'll find the beloved podcast over there. Simply Scripts is going through a phase every forum goes through. People get busy, they have real lives. There's nothing we can do about it.

The reason you haven't had many reads is quite simple. I'm sure you'll understand people not wanting their feedback falling on deaf ears. Usually, we avoid commenting on scripts from new writers until they show up and make their own contribution. After that, we will read your own work.

So, start commenting on other scripts and you will get the feedback on your own work. No matter what your experience, feedback is always appreciated.

Thanks.
I think the reason I havent had many reads is that there is nothing of mine posted to read, but I'll probably find that you're right when that time comes.

Im really not a very good critic. I tend towards the snark and I cant get past poor structure, punctuation and spelling. I'll stop reading for the rest of the day if I come upon a sentence with more than two comma's.

Not that mine are any better, certainly not, just different.

Mike, not commenting on scripts is a great way to not get read.  Too many people drop their scripts off at the Simplyscripts doorway and don't participate in the forums.  Why should anyone read just scripts when they could be reading/commenting on those who participate?

You say you don't feel comfortable reviewing other people's work?  Your won't feel comfortable at it, or experienced, until you do.

Ok then, I'll start with the first one on the unproduced list from the last upload.

Everyone in the first row don your poncho's.

Fact is, there was a HUGE stink a year or so back about posting scripts on the web -- with many of the big studios filing very intimidating lawsuits against a number of the little guys who were putting them out there.

The "safe" scripts are fewer and far between these days, and Don is nothing if not prudent.

If you try the "portal" button on the top right, it is easy to track the activity of the forum, and you will find this forum to be fairly active as writing forums go.

True dat. One my clients was sued by a huge studio. It's a done deal and all is well but my client can tell you that caution must be the order of the day. I am still available and on the hunt. BB

Don't worry about your critique's/reviews.  I think I'm the worst at it, but I just talk about whatever pops into my head during that particular read.

As for "downhill" activity... this place has it's slow points.  Like previously said, people have lives.  Maybe in the next life we can all sit around pumping out badass screenplays.

Here, check out this thread and this thread.  There you can find what people have posted on the forums, and a list of recommendations from other members.  Me to you:  check out anything by Bert, especially The Farm.  Devil in D Minor, by Breanne Mattson.  And Morphine and Never After by spesh2k.  Just a few off the top of my head.  Should keep you busy for a bit. haha

I guess I'l just proof read my thoughts a dozen times before I hit "post"

I never thought I'd be here in a million years. I get a little apprehensive after awhile since all I do all day is sit on the couch, I realize most don't.

I used to write as a fun hobby and now its what Im left with. In general terms, writing is against my character unless its based in reality, as are Books and Movies. Ive always been a strict realist.

Which corner should I sit in?

Mike,

I'll check out American Values and give it a bump!  The title sounds like my flavor.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the scripts!  Lots of great writers here.

Later,

Hee Hee... Well said Dena... The mood does change during a OWC and it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I used to write as a fun hobby and now its what Im left with.

Buy an inexpensive video editing program (NLE) and learn to A) make short films even using your phone camera, post on youtube, then B) write short stories for yourself to finance and shoot.

You'll soon find out that there's a huge difference between writing pie-in-the-sky stories and those you can shoot and edit with the location, cast & crew, equipment, and budget resources you actually have.

And just start commenting on the scripts of others.
Because it's "out there" it makes you more cognizant and accountable for both what you say and how you express it which in turn positively affects both your perceptions of the reviews you receive and the screenplays you write.
And it's good etiquette as well, I suppose.

GL!

Certainly not mine

I conveniently disappear whenever a OWC turns up. Never liked the atmosphere, although I do think it's a great opportunity for writers to take. If I can think of something when it pops up, I'll be in.

Welcome to the boards, Mike.

Just relax, they're still used quite frequently and I think they may well have been around for nearly ten years now and I think I've been there since the start! Or thereabouts.

Post your reviews how you see fit, just remember not to be too harsh as a lot of the people on here are just amateurs who are learning, some people forget that when they review things I think. Have fun.

Oh c'mon! Toughen up. My first OWC I got slammed for my amateur slugs and overwinded descriptions. I still have to rein it in.   It's embarrassing and frustrating having to wait for when you can defend yourself too - 'it was a typo, damn it!'

But, I got some good advice, too. I think it's a great learning experience, but most of all it makes you churn out a short script in a week...which I probably wouldn't do otherwise.

I make my decision about the OWC purely on the basis of if I think I can write something half way decent based on the challenge Logline. I hope you give it a go MikeMac.

P.S. I know you were only kidding, Alex.
