HE,

Glad it's working out for you. I think you were right not to pitch anything else, for now. One thing at a time.

I'll keep an eye out for your updates. Hope it keeps cooking the way it should be.

I did the same thing with one of my features, the sum paid never made me rich, but it does make me feel that the producer really cares about the project.

Glad to hear it, nice work mate.

Nice work Gary.

Well done.  With subtitles, it should make it watchable by everyone.  I'll be there, at the Oscars.  And nominated for best foreign screenplay is:

YOU!!

Oh, Gary, is there a link to the story they are working on?

And not that I want to put you, or anyone on the spot, but, I wish there was a section as to how much money a person should ask for.  As LC said, it's one thing to be generous to students/film schools, it's another thing to give your work for free to a person who pays for everything else but your script...

You ask for what the script is worth to you. You determine this by the budget they have to spend. If the budget is only 10K, then asking for anything above $500 probably wouldn't be doable. If it's 60K then a couple K may be doable.

It depends on a lot of factors.

Until we make it big, it's just the way we have to play.

Yeah, as Dustin said, it's a crap shoot as to what producers will pay, what they can afford, and what makes logical sense if you're serious about getting your movie made.  The old rule of thumb here in the U.S. used to be that a screenwriter ought to be allocated 1 to 2% of the overall budget (i.e., if the budget were $50,000, then you'd probably get around $500 to $1000 for either the rights to the script and/or your services during shooting. Certain screenwriters can, and do, command more. Unknown screenwriters pretty much have to take whatever the producer is willing to pay.  However, if you have a killer script and several people are clamoring for it, then you have some leverage.  If no one is clamoring for it and it's just collecting dust, then you pretty much have zero leverage (unless you just like negotiating and getting turned down).
