It's an awful chore, IMO, to read first drafts. Therefore, I no longer subject my friends to that. It feels better to get some unknown person to do it. Get more unbiased feedback that way too.
Screenplay Readers started out a little unprofessional, but have since become very professional and they are my go to coverage company. Usually get 5-7 pages of feedback from them. They have sales quite often too. A three reader package during a sale is about $200. That's a great deal, IMO, when you consider you get at least fifteen pages of feedback.
Btw, they have a sale going right now. It ends today, so let me know if you're interested and I'll give you the coupon code.

Thanks - I'll check them out. No need for the code - not something I am pulling the trigger on immediately.
I've used Coverage, Ink.. and Page (not during the contest). I've liked both, and I do consider it worthwhile. Haven't always taken all their suggestions, but every coverage usually has something substantive that I'll consider in a rewrite.

I've not gone for any coverage options as they seem pricey to me. I did spot a pro writer running an indiegogo campaign to get her short film produced a few months back. One of the funding options was a coverage report on scripts. It cost me £50 and I got excellent feedback which really helped me iron out the chinks in a TV pilot. I'm pleased to say this script is in the semi-finals of Cinequest
So all I'm saying is it maybe worth considering looking at cheaper (but just as helpful) alternatives.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you on Cinequest. Best of luck.
We should really be able to do this ourselves. It just takes draft after draft to get there.
The feedback here is invaluable.
The coverage issue still perks my interest but I am weary. I guess for me if I specifically knew the qualifications of the person doing the coverage I would be willing to pay. My concern is paying for some intern, writing grad or otherwise failed writer to give coverage. i.e, I would pay a mint for Sorkin to look at something but not $50 for someone I don't know.
Curiosity hits.. As a newbie, I have used two coverage services, blacklist and script reader pro's, 1 page coverage vs 4 pages, 70e or something vs 150e.
I think most of you can really tell the difference between the two services regarding accuracy, focus, professionalism etc, so my question is this:
On my way searching this forum for a collaboration partner, I went through almost every single script of 5 writers in total, who I think they're among the best, plus their strengths pair with my weaknesses. Although I chose to contact only one of them (of no importance who that is), I still wonder, why don't you guys do that kind of job too, at least until you sell some scripts or as an extra 'income resource'--?
I really mean this, I would gladly pay the blacklist coverage fee to have my script covered by one of those 5 guys.

For me I actually enjoy reading scripts and provide feedback. I'm a beta reader for some authors and I enjoy helping develop stories, so it is something I would consider at some point. However, at the moment, between the day job and family commitments, I have about three hours a week spare to do some writing. So it is not viable at the moment but something I would definitely do in the future.
I also don't mind giving feedback on here or with a few writers I've become friends with. They in turn review my stuff so it works out well.

Coverage might be a necessary evil. I received coverage on my last feature, a Christmas script, by two readers. One gave it a Pass, the other a Consider. Both provided extensive notes on how to fix and strengthen the script. While that is helpful, a passing grade might look good when you pitch your script to a producer. You need all the help you can get when you’re trying to get it made. It’s kind of like a resume without a cover letter.
That said, the feedback I get on SS is just as valuable, if not more so. Sure, you have to sift through it. Pick out what you like or don’t like. But when you add it all up I’d bet it comes out to about the same. And I got producer reads on my script without the coverage, but I’d be curious to see if good coverage moved the needle a little bit with those guys.
SS is a great free resource, as regular members do provide feedback and often more thorough script exchange reviewing via email/PM.
What are you asking exactly?
No doubt, SS is a great free resource, if not the best out there. However, disregarding the obvious subjectiveness of a review, it doesn't really mean a lot when a review comes from a person like me for example (6-7 months of experience into this), who's still a newbie. Yes I can see a script's obvious mistakes (formatting, grammar, mayby pacing) but I still lack experience regarding everything else.
Furthermore, the more/most experienced writers, whose opinion really matters, during their reviews they usually go through just some part of the script (due to their limited free time or just because the script sucks.. etc), which means... well you know what that means.
So, why don't you/we offer those guys the incentive to do this on a more official-paid basis? Can be done under the SS umbrella for example or not..
Don't think I can be more detailed than this. Ofc there are pros and cons on this, but this is just my opinion.

Yes I have, about 7 years ago from a company called Script Savvy, which I don't think is around any longer.
I scored pretty high, so I use some of the comments they made in my queries.
Sometimes I offer to send it to places when they're not interested in reading the entire script off the bat. I explain to them that it's from several versions ago and the points that Script Savvy brought up had been addressed in the rewrites.
Coverage is important when you're querying your product - it can get you into doors, and then you can build from there. While SS feedback is invaluable for rewriting, none of our opinions are the "coverage" that producers, agents and managers are looking for.
Dave, you are good enough to start getting covered at agencies and management companies. Research who the film coordinators are at whatever companies you're trying to get into, and see if they'll cover you.
