I'm sure I have a thread for this somewhere but I couldn't find it.

This film, Farside, was produced in 2017 and it's still not available for the public yet. This is the biggest short I've had made so far with a budget of £17,000.

It has just been officially selected for the Aesthetica short film festival in York which is a BAFTA-qualifying festival. Do well here and we're off to BAFTA.

The trailer looks good.

The video is crisp, the color grading has a nice style, the prayer over the shot of "change" has a nice feel to it.

The only suggestion I have for future trailers of yours is to show the shot for a few seconds, then have the subtitles come in, or have the shot linger for a few seconds more to take it in.

I was reading the subtitles and then wanted to look at the video, but the image changed.
I noticed this most with the marionette.

What was this shot on?

I've been away for a few days and, wow, massive response to this thread. I suppose this confirms what I've suspected for a while now.

Thanks, Jordan. I don't want to be impolite and leave your post hanging. I've no idea what it was shot on. This film was put together by professionals and I wouldn't want to pass your advice on because I am just a writer and I'd sound like an idiot saying it.

Cheers,

I'd say most people's attention might be on the current challenge. A lot of things get overlooked when one in running.

Trailer looks great, very professionally shot.

That's a massive budget for a short, very nice.

I hadn´t really seen this yet. I have been busy lately though, but I do try to read all comments. Perhaps embedding it instead of just a link would make it more inviting for people to watch it?

I watched it and was intrigued. Hope to get to see the final film. Cheers.

Yep, I've been distracted with the challenge discussions. I even had it on my list to watch but then honestly I forgot. I also searched for a link to the script the other day, but zilch - you probably had it removed?

I gotta say my first impression is it's a rather low-key trailer. The visuals are very pro, with an intriguing vibe. I paused it to close up on this: ain't nowt worth owt in ere

But truthfully I followed this link to find out more:
https://farsidefilm.co.uk/

There is something to be said for showing too much in trailers to the point you think why bother seeing the film cause you've already seen it. This teaser however was a little underwhelming for me.

The thing that does sell it for me is the info dump in that other link (above), and watching Ash Morris's other hard hitting film : Bare. Wow. Obviously your script is in more than capable hands.

Wishing you luck.
A BAFTA. Now that'd be something.

The 'general' problem is clear and possibly, to me, rightfully mentioned,

I saw the trailer - watched it immediately, when it was posted; then haven't had something to say. As a Prussian blah with the older Englishman it's my task to be here now

The general problem means I do miss updates.

Watched the trailer, liked it. Well shot and a really eerie atmosphere. Best of luck with the festival and I hope you get to BAFTA.

Just seeing it and really liking the trailer. It might be not what I think it is.
I’m curious as to what if it makes me feel feelings. At any rate being it and good luck with Bafta’s

There is a link available to watch this film now if you would like to. It has had a great festival run over the two years and gained prizes for best actress etc, but none for best screenplay

Still, this is possibly the best film I've had made in terms of production value and possibly even story so I'm really proud of it. I'm not sure of any other public links to it, this link leads to the producer's website.

That was great! Really pro looking and sounding. CONGRATULATIONS!

It was a little unclear to me if this was a refugee camp or like a trailer park type thing. I guess in the UK people would know right away.

An impressive piece of work here -- definitely something to be proud of. Tightly plotted and effective, nice to look at, good performances.

I'm heavily predisposed against this sort of multiculturalism-as-tragedy melodrama, but to my eye this delivers on exactly what it's intending to.

Re: acting awards and no writing awards -- I think the social realist aesthetic scrambles people's brains. The further towards this end of the spectrum, the more people unconsciously credit the actors rather than the writer. The writing is clearly the standout aspect of this short.

Thanks for sharing!
