Already folks, Scarefest 2 is about to show its ugly face. For those unfamiliar with Scarefest, it is a series of 8 short horror scripts by horror fans, for horror fans. The first Scarefest turned out great, and I hope that part 2 turns out even better!

Here are the rules-

1.)     Obviously the script needs to be a horror/thriller. Scare the reader. However, don't be afraid to add a bit of humor into the mix as well.
2.)     The page limit this time is 15-30 pages, no exceptions.
3.)     The due date is July 1rst. You writers have a few months to email me the script, your name, and a brief synopsis.
4.)     The title is yours for the choosing, however, "Scarefest 2 Presents" must come before the title. Example- "Scarefest 2 Presents: Dead"
5.)     HAVE FUN! Take your time. Collaborate with the other SF 2 writers. Make sure that you are happy with the script you write.

Here's a list of the writers involved-

Alffy
James- Ghoulish Goulashe
Stebrown- Shellshocked
Ian
Scoob- The Clown
Darren
Zack- Directors Cut

All of the spots are taken.

I'll everyone updated on the progress.

Zack dear,

I LOVE your enthusiasm and I'm very happy that SF 1 turned out so well... However, the Soulshadows thing will be going on at the same time and possibly another OWC. We are all friends here, I think.... Let's not compete with each other for reads.

Just a thought.

I don't mean to compete. Hell, I even plan on reading the "Soulshadows" scripts(I love the idea of the seven sins).  And, if the OWC is anounced next month, I'll push back the due date. I honestly don't mean to compete reads. I just thought the sooner I got this started, the more time we'd have to develope it.

I'm curious about the OWC, which challenge it will be. But all seems good. I have an hefty load to do. . And hopefully it's understandable.

Hi Zack

Can you pencil me in to do an episode? I've got a fair bit on at the moment and haven't done a horror script before so can't really say for sure yet.
Will give it a go and I'll let you know for definate as soon as I can. Obviously if you get enough people saying they'll do an episode before I say for sure then I'll lose my place.

Cheers

I'll give it a shot if that's okay? My feature-length horror is moving at a snail's pace so I'd like to actually complete something for a change and the last OWC completely passed me by! Plus I missed the horror-themed OWCs too.

Now that we have Scarefest, does that mean the OWC will never be horror again? I'm sure that would please some people .

Well, all eight spots have been filled. If any of the writers drop out, I'll be sure to announce that I have an opening.

To all of the writers, once you have a title, send it to me through PM so I can put it next to your name on the list.

Why do I get the feeling that I might be responsible for this comment lol.  Glad season 2 is coming, I can't wait to read the new ones.  Anyway I think I'll develop one of the scripts I drafted for the 1st season, which isn't a comedy horror by the way.

When you say collaborate, what do you mean exactly? Are we just supposed to run our ideas past each other actually contribute to each script etc?

Just wanted to check, I don't know if anyone else taking part is NOT from the US, but if people need to chat or PM online etc I don't know if time difference is an issue lol.

Hey

The working title of mine is 'The Dales'.

I'm struggling a bit with this and only got around 5 pages. If someone wouldn't mind me emailing them what I've got so far, so they can give me a little feedback or an idea or two that would be great. Just send me a message or say on here and I'll email it over. Will return the favour if you want.

Hey Ste, I've been extending my first season scarefest outing but was struggling with a new title....'The Dales' hmm sounds good that lol.  I might soon be asking for suggestions on a title.  To anyone that read my short, which was called 'Meat Pies', if you have any suggestions on a title for the feature let me know, I'm all ears.  I don't want to give the plot away with this title though.

Mine is called " The Clown".

I've written a treatment for it, hope it all fits together nicely although there are some problems in the later stages that need a little fixing.

It was either this or brothers attempt to rob a house thats been vacant for some time only to find its not vacant at all; or a bizarre take on a DVD rental shop!

I'll start writing it proper in the next week.

Finished the rough draft of mine just now and it's only three pages over the 25 page limit so that's not too bad.
Im pretty hopeful I can sort that out within a month but you never know.

Just a quick question - I'm taking it that all are in the same format as in New Courier 12?

Is that the PDF format?

I have a question of my own. Would any of the writers of Scarefest 2 be interested in making a Poster for the poster thread?

Yes, I use Final Draft so it would be put on PDF as it was from there, right? I assume so. No big deal, just curious.

As for the posters, I think that would be pretty cool! Why not!

All you scarefest guys should consider entering some of the horror only screenwriting competitions out there.  Shriekfest, I believe, is the biggest one.

The only problem might be is that the deadlines are approaching.  These competitions generally announce the winners around Halloween time.

Or you could send me $20 for a shot at saying you won the "Shelton Script Extravaganza Contest".

It features a cavalcade of stars.

Competitions are one way of getting your scripts out there.  The fun part is knowing which competitions are legit.

I don't know about Mike's.  He claims it features a cavalcade of stars, but the first two I saw on the list were Paulie Shore and Pia Zadora.

I'm having a bit of a nightmare aghhh.  My laptop's just died and refuses to turn on.  Fortunately I backed everything up a week or so ago but I've lost some too.  My scarefest episode's took a battering, I've lost my second draft so looks like I'm gonna have to redo it doh!  I now have to get our lass off her laptop for long enough for me to finish it lol.

Allfy dont worry - I thought my script was all but done until I read it tonight. Not only is it still over the page limit, but its not exactly entertaining.

Zack - are you going to announce the deadline on here because I have no idea on when it will be with these two remaining places now up for grabs.

I'm missing two writers, so either I'm going to have to push back the due date or we'll just have to settle with six writers for Scarefest 2.

Ste has sent me his script. It is 'Episode 1: Shellshocked'.

I wasn't planning on it, but I do have a completed episode in the off chance that I don't find another writer.

Better to settle for seven writers, don't you think? If you're more of a glass-full kinda guy, better to be missing only one writer.

Yeah, it looks like I will be doing an episode this time around. Although, I'm gonna probably just write an all new. The script I have completed is the script I had originally written for the 1rst Scarefest. I really don't like it much, so I've decided that it won't see the light of day.

Nice one, I'm pleased to be Episode 1. Gotta say I haven't been this worried about how a script is going to be taken by people as with this one. As always as soon as it's finished I hate it.

I was like that on the first series, really worried what everyone would think.  I guess with it been a series you don't want to let down the other writers with a rubbish episode lol.  Anywho I've finished my second draft but I still only got 16 pages, is this going to be an issue?

The page limit thing is kinda getting to me as well( my script is currently 24 pages and it's going to end up being at least 30), so don't worry too much Alffy. The new page limit is 15-30 pages. Also, a heads up for what I'm writting. I'm doing a semi-rewrite of the first script I've ever submitted here, Directors Cut.

Zack, with the new page limit that is pretty much good news for me! I did manage to cut it to 25 exactly but it meant chopping a few scenes which then didnt really make the rest of the thing make sense.

Not that this is going to be a logical kinda thing anyhow but a little continuity might make all the difference between this being bad or just awful! Like Alffy and Ste commented above, as soon as I finished this I tend to fear the worst.

Hey Zack, has everyone sent their episodes to you yet?  Hopefully I'll get mine to you in the next few days.  Still not entirely happy with it at the moment as I'm going for a non linear approach, perhaps a bit risky.

No Alffy, I don't have all the scripts. But don't worry, I've pushed back the due date to July 1rst. That should be more than enough time for everyone. And those who have some concerns about their scripts, do a re-write.

Does anyone want to do a poster? Also, I still have 1 more opening if someone else wants to do an episode.

Just checking that the second series is still going out from the 1st July?  I'll get my episode posted to Zack if that's the case.  I'm asking cos I've been away for a week and also cos of the meltdown over the last few weeks I might have missed somet.

I agree with you Ste, we need to get this thing rolling again.  I know the SoulShadows series is running at the moment but with only one being posted a week, there's room for both I think.  How many are we waiting for Zack?  Perhaps posting them in two's would be good anyway as the page limit has been increased this series.

Oh balls, I noticed the OWC is coming so perhaps end of July would be good.

Thanks. Glad you like it. I'll try to touch up the hand so it'll be neater and make it darker so the red doesn't stand out so much.

I'd lose the bloody hand. Just having the skull over the water is enough. I reckon  having the hand is over doing it.

Do any of you guys plan on creating posters for your individual episodes? I attempted one :

I'm interested in reading one of the participants short early in exchange for mine. I really want to know what you guys think. I'm kinda nervous for what people will think of it.

I'm off work today so I can have a read of yours in exchange of mine, if you want.

I'll send it over if you pm me your email address. Or just send yours to mine and I'll reply - can't find yours on your script or profile.

Shawn

I'm off work today so I can have a read of yours in exchange of mine, if you want.

I'll send it over if you pm me your email address. Or just send yours to mine and I'll reply - can't find yours on your script or profile.

I don't know if it's been done already since I don't have access to it, but if someone (Don) can confirm that it hasn't, I'd say go ahead and submit them yourselves.

Sounds good to me as it seems Zack has fallen off the face of the earth...or should that be the face of SimplyScripts.

So how long do we wait to see if Zack is gonna post before we do it ourselves?  Also I'm not even sure who the writers are and do we all need to post together, like the same day?

I think I'll wait a day or two before posting mine, just in case

I think there are eight but don't hold me to that.  This is the list of writers from the first post:

Alffy - From Heaven
James- Ghoulish Goulashe
Stebrown- Shellshocked
Ian - ?
Scoob- The Clown
Darren - ?
Zack- Directors Cut

Obviouslt you're not on there Shawn and BPeterson is writing one I think.  That makes nine but I'm not sure Zack was actually going to write his.  Also I haven't heard anything from Ian or Darren for a while either.

I'm submitting mine soon. For sure. It seems like it's just four of us at this point though.

Maybe not such a bad thing as the episodes are now slightly longer.  Looking forward to reading everyones episodes, it's been so long since I wrote mine I think I'll have to read it to remember it lol.

There's a feud a-brewin'.  My Soulshadows script should be going up soon.
