Killer or Thief

There are two new screenwriting games/exercises starting on July 4th.  Killer and Thief.

You may only play one of these two games.

Killer is a free-for-all game/exercise where there is only one survivor. This time in the peaceful resort community of Lake Simply, trouble is brewing.  A killer is on the loose. One by one the residents of the town are dropping like flies from this unknown terror.   Will you catch the killer or will you leave no one alive?

In this version of killer, there will only be one killer.  The killer will be decided upon at the beginning of the game, but their identity will be kept secret.  The killer will decide the death order of characters.  You will be notified when you are about to write the death scene for your own character.

There are only 8 characters/players per game - if we get lots more than 8 then we will have a second game.

To play add a bio for your character to this thread and mention you want to play Killer

Thief is a structured game/exercise where drama and characters are key.  A reunion is happening in Simply Valley.  Eight high school friends have a sleep-over, big chill style. It's no secret that one of them plans to propose to another at the gathering.  But plans are cancelled, tempers flare, and old fights are rekindled when the engagement ring turns up missing.  The question now is who stole it and why?

This game will be structured.  Character bios will be developed, then a brief outline will be created and the screenplay will be written from the outline.  Developing the character and writing the outline are part of the game.

There are only 8 characters/players per game - if we get lots more than 8 then we will have a second game.

To play add a bio for your character to this thread and mention you want to play Thief

Cheers,

Michael

You're definitely on the list, you just need to come up with a character bio to back up your entry.  Post your character in this thread.  If you're curious what a character bio is like, have a look at the bios in this thread http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-collaborate/m-1224841894/  And I guess I should mention, that the name of the character should be meaningful to you.

Meaningful? In what way?

Will the Killer game be the same type of thing as the SS Craven game? The link you just gave.

GABRIEL JACOBS. "Phenomenal acting" says Rolling Stones, " The master of action" says Roger and Ebert, "He swept me off of my feet", says Pia from One Week Reviews. Gabriel Jacobs is one of the best actors of the 20th century. If he's in your movie, it's a success. Having played in all genres, he is frequently cast in action, romance, and horror (which according to him is his favorite). Handsome, Built, Smart, Nice guy quality, and the list goes on, it's obvious that the ladies dig him. He's been caught having brunch with sexy actress Audrey, walking with supermodel Lisa, and clubbing with music star sensation Niki. Questioned about these girls, he says "they're just friends."

His road to fame was a hard one. Simply enough, he was ugly, obese, and dumb like a rock. He deemed himself a repellent of society. But though persistence and hard work, he overcame his obstacles. Now look at him. Ain't life just ironic.

Hope this follows the guidelines. I tried to base it on Shiva. I want to play Thief.
Gabe

Just Murdered by Sean Elwood (Zombie Sean) and Gabriel Moronta (Mr. Ripley) - (Dark Comedy, Horror) All is fair in love and war. A hopeless romantic gay man resorts to bloodshed to win the coveted position of Bridesmaid. 99 pages.

Yes, the killer game will be the same type of game as SS Craven.  Only it will be written with budget in mind.

Last time we played Killer it ran for three weeks.  Shiva, another game like this one ran for months.  This particular game of Killer will probably run for about a month but there is literally no way of knowing how long the game will last.  The only guarantee I can give you is that I will do my best to work your turns around your schedule.  If you aren't around for a turn then we try to arrange for a guest writer to take the turn for you.

I should also mention here that the deadline for entering is Jun 26th.

Hope that helps.

Dennis Mark (late 40s), one of the comic dinosaurs, is too old to be fresh and too young to be legendary. Sometimes introduced as “the raunchiest man in comedy” his gigs are often one long diatribe of raunchiness. He hasn’t been funny since his last cable TV showcase (a watered down 30 minute special that was supposed to be a premiere event) ten years ago. But his name is still drawing hard-drinking hecklers and diehard fans into the small town clubs, so he has a job.

Dennis dreams of making it big again. He used to be a great joke writer and teller. But first, he needs that one night to get him started. He’s road weary and fears he won’t be in the game much longer. He doesn’t want to do gigs like The Smoking Gun Presents: The World’s Dumbest or security guard with Gary Coleman.

Dennis will do anything to get back to the big venues but for now he’s stuck in small dives.

Some more info, Michael?  Does the character have to be a certain type, eg, rich, poor, that sort of thing?
And also, any idea when the next OWC will be on? If it's later, I might have a crack at this Killer. I know Phil usually gives us that info but I thought, while this is up....

I will be heading into the woods at 42 mile, in B.C. and writing up a storm. There's no satellite for Internet, but I'll be checking in when I go to town.

It's really nice here in Canada to be able to take the show on the road in the summertime. I look forward to it.

I'll be looking for the shark, Jeff!

You character can be anyone who might be residing at Lake Simply for a holiday.  It should not interfer with any other event on the site.  If need be we can delay a post or switch turns with someone who isn't participating in the other event.

Cool, count me in for Killer.

Character Bio:

Mark Donovan (27) is considered the best mma (mixed martial arts) fighter around. As the son of the legendary boxer Harry Donovan, there was never any doubt that Mark would follow in his father's footsteps and become a professional fighter.

Originally hailing from London, UK, Mark has been living and fighting in Las Vegas, Nevada for the past three years. He trains twice a day and puts in the work to make sure there isn't an ounce of fat on his body, which is quite an accomplisment seeing as he stands at 6 ft 4 inches tall, and weighs a whopping 205 lbs.

With Dana White, President of UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) calling him "the best fighter the UFC has ever seen", and his fighting record standing undefeated at 23-0, there is no doubt in anyone's mind that Mark Donovan is at the top of his game and will be for many years to come.

I'm in for Killer too.

My bio...

A down and out screenwriter struggles to pay rent while living in the shit part of Hollywood, - JOKING.

Tommy, (27), can talk his way in, and out, of anything. He doesn't like the term "conman", but sees him self as an "opportunist" instead. Since the age of 8, when he talked his next door neighbour into buying him a new bike, a motorbike that is, he has been scamming people out of their money.

From fake cheques, to romance scams, Tommy has dabbled in it all. With a quick mouth, a sharp wit, and the level of confidence you only dream about, Tommy has been living the life of luxury for years. Mansions, girls, helicopters, and the recent addition of his personal island, keeps Tommy happy and content.

That's a really good question. All I know is that for a long time, it was a tiny wooden post that stood only about 3 feet high on the ground and that's how you knew you were at the turn off to go into the cabins.

I was pretty amazed last year to find out that there is now a big and fancy la-te-dah sign pointing the way. The road heads further into Firth Lake.

Anyways, I won't be participating, but I'll be watching you.

Here we go...

Mitch “Coop” Cooper, 34, heads up the Boating Safety and Regulations Department in Lake Simply.  Coop is a simple man, who has spent his entire life in the resort community.  Well liked and respected, Coop lives alone with his dog, Chomper.

Coop is a physical specimen, with a rock hard chiseled body, and a full head of bleached blonde hair.  He’s known to be somewhat of a Playboy with the vacationing women that come and go.  No one has a bad thing to say about him.

Mr C, Sorry but don't think I will be able to do this one. I will be on holiday in July and cannot guarantee being able to log in regular enough. Don't want to be the one who is messing things up for everyone else.

Next time though, I have enjoyed your previous efforts and sure this one will be just as good.

I'm in for Killer.

Andrew, 47, an accountant, has never been married. Socially inept, and withdrawn, due to bad experiences, and now just out of habit. Is generally kind, but has small characteristics that put people off. Came to the resort to get away from his old life, and live off his unspent small fortune - and maybe, finally, find a partner.

Character Bio for Thief - The Webseries Game

Jeana-Marie is a single, thirty-something cashier with a counterfeit smile, when she smiles, and it's likely she does in a genuine way, when no one's watching. It is then that she ticks off another one of her twisted personal challenges in her Retribution Notebook, where payback is served up to the big-bad world, J.M style.

When tomorrow comes-- if it comes in its altered form, under the burden of her personality disorder, she'll only have the notebook to remind her of the other person in her life. Unfortunately, they always manage to destroy her Forgiveness Notebooks. They always destroy her chances for friendship and love. She will go to this reunion though. She will go with vague memories of the good times before these times, when she was just Jeana. Not Jeana-Marie.

Looking forward to seeing how these games unfold.

Sandra

From my understanding, The Thief game will be more structured and different than the Shiva game, which didn't work from an outline. In this respect, The Killer Game will be a free for all and more similar to Shiva as being something done on the fly.

Thief will work to be more structured and use an outline. There's more about this in the top of the thread.

Killer is scheduled to begin in July and Thief sometime in August.

Lovisa Hammare (50) from sweden. Even though a "free spirit" Lovisa is well liked in the community. She loves kids and readily babysits and bakes cookies and treats for all the children.

She lives in a cute idyllic cottage she loves to invite members in the community to. ...only very few however have ever been down into her cellar where her she keeps all her pagan stuff, including the sacrificial altar...

The game of Killer is nearly upon us.  I will be picking the Killer this week.  One of you will be getting that fateful email. The deadline for entering is Friday.

Also, if anyone is interested in standby writing then let me know.  Sometimes we have a player that needs to miss their turn and then you would basically fill in. It's a hero's job if you're up to it.

Killer

grademan as Dennis Mark
Toby_E as Mark Donovan
Tommyp as Tommy
Dreamscale as Mitch “Coop” Cooper
xerces_ as Andrew
me as Lovisa Hammare

*upon receipt of character

The boy who could fly

Killer needs at least one more character

Jordan!!! Where's your character bio?

Thief

Mr. Ripley as GABRIEL JACOBS
Sandra E as Jeana-Marie

* upon receipt of character

We need many more occupants for the Thief scenario.  We'll leave it open while we play Killer.

Ahhhh I'm such a dildo I totally forgot about this

Christian Blaine 20, was a genius in highschool and even  got accepted to Yale, but ended up falling in love with weed, cocaine and Ecstasy.  He now spends his days dealing drugs and getting high, he makes good money but blows a lot of it on his own habits.  He's charming and doesn't have trouble getting laid, but they are usually just one night stands.  He feels lonely a lot and sometimes wishes he could be that kid he was back in highschool, but his addictions always win that battle.

THE KILLER HAS BEEN CHOSEN.

I'm still waiting on JohnnyBoy's character (he has less than 24 hrs to supply one).  And grademan, I need your email address so I can communicate about your turn.

But the KILLER has been chosen.  Who is it? Which one of the following characters is hiding a murderous streak?

Dennis Mark (grademan) (late 40s), one of the comic dinosaurs, is too old to be fresh and too young to be legendary.

Mark Donovan (TobyE) (27) is considered the best mma (mixed martial arts) fighter around.

Tommy (Tommyp) (27), can talk his way in, and out, of anything.

Mitch “Coop” Cooper (Dreamscale) 34, heads up the Boating Safety and Regulations Department in Lake Simply.

Andrew (xerces_) 47, an accountant, has never been married. Socially inept, and withdrawn, due to bad experiences, and now just out of habit. Is generally kind, but has small characteristics that put people off. Came to the resort to get away from his old life, and live off his unspent small fortune - and maybe, finally, find a partner.

Lovisa Hammare (me) (50) from sweden.

Christian Blaine (TheBoyWhoCouldFly) 20, was a genius in highschool and even  got accepted to Yale, but ended up falling in love with weed, cocaine and Ecstasy.

NOTE:  The Killer has been instructed to deny that they are the Killer.  So just because someone says they aren't the killer is maybe even more a reason to suspect them.  Just something to keep in mind.

Here's my character. Ten points to anyone who can name (without Googling) which other work of fiction I've transplanted her from!

Doris Kilman, mid-30s, is a poor, lonely church volunteer. She is at Lake Simply on a vacation paid for by fellow members of her congregation, a vacation she was reluctant to take. A woman with a sad life story, she is quiet, unattractive, usually poorly dressed - the kind of person you wouldn't give a second glance.

But though Doris has God in her heart, she has poison in her head. She has suffered in her life, suffered greatly, and she loathes all who she feels have had it easy and not fully appreciated it.  She is poor, she knows the evils of the world, its unkindness and injustices  - she despises these people at Lake Simply, with their glamorous lifestyles and lavish ways, their thoughtless spending of money they take for granted. She is angry, always so angry and bitter. They must repent, they must be shown the Light – God has chosen her for this task! Her congregation might have thought that sending her to Lake Simply would give her a much needed rest, help to her relax – in fact, they may have made things worse...

That's it then, entry to the killer game is closed.  We will be starting in a week. I'll supply further instructions during the week.

Cheers,

Yep.  Will try to keep the icons on the map in the appropriate locations after turns. Your characters will move.  I should even be able to get away with updating it at work since it won't be unusual for them to see a map on my screen.

Could we get a church? Maybe the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Saint Don? Who, as we know, is the patron saint of screenplays, and all who write, read and review them?

I thought about adding a church but then I though it would be much more of a dilemma for your character if there were no church in town.

The first 4 paragraphs written already?  Have we already begun?  I better not get killed already!  Kill Tommy first!  We already know he can also play a dead naked girl as well as a horny camper.

There will be three rounds.

The order for the first round will be as follows.

The boy who could fly
Toby_E
Tommyp
xerces_
Dreamscale
grademan
JohnnyBoy
me

One characters will die during the first round. I will notify them before they begin.  They will need to write their death scene.

Once the person before you has posted - start your turn - don't wait for my email.

When you do get my email you should respond within 24 hrs or your turn will be either taken for you or swapped.  You have 48 hrs to complete your turn.

Your turn is one post.

You should choose one person off this list to be your buddy.  Send them your post before you post it.

The killer should not be seen during murders.  In the script you may speculate as to who the killer might be.  But give your speculation logic.

You should try to keep things as real as possible.  This is low budget horror - so write with that in mind.

You may add incidental characters - but try not to - use the character provided by the players if at all possible.  Incidental characters may be killed off at whim.

You should format your posts like they are formatted in this thread.

http://www.simplyscripts.net/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-collaborate/m-1224842216/s-0/

I'm thinking we are going to use the map rather than a track sheet for keeping track of things.  It's just much easier that way and should be visually exciting.

The order of the next round will be announced after the first kill. Two people will be killed off during that round.

The third round will be a bit more loosely organised.  The order will not be announced.  When everyone is gone but two characters. There will be a vote.  Who do you suspect the Killer is?  The person you vote as Killer will then write the last scene.  It will be their death scene.  If you vote wrong then the Killer gets a last victim, otherwise the Killer gets justice.

Here's the math:

8 characters
-1 dies the first round
-2 die the second round
-3 die the third round
--
2 for the vote
-1 voted Killer (the winner of the vote dies)
--
1 survivor

So, when it's our turn to write, we write about our own character, and then have them interact with others, right?  Will others be able to intro our character before we have a turn?  Is it possible that a character will die before they even have a turn?  Can we interact with other characters, who are not part of the 8...as in other vacationers, etc.?

Good questions.

When it is your turn you can write about any of the characters.  It is assumed you will write about your own character - unless your character is dead.  There will be no ghosts in this game --- got that everyone.

Other people will be able to intro your character - that is why you gave a character description.  They should use the character description when they intro you.  Shame on them if they don't.

You cannot die before your turn because you will kill your own character.  Of course, if you are the unlucky person who dies during the first round then you will kill your character on your first turn.

You can create incidental characters that you may interact with.  Please limit this though, keep it to the 8 and keep it focused.  If you do create an incidental character then that character can be killed off at whim - either by you or someone else.  There doesn't have to be just 8 murders.

The map has been updated.  Residences have been added.  Keep an eye on the map during the game.  It is the track sheet.

http://maps.google.com.au/maps.....0046d4da2cbfb7e9345a

The active character will be shown in green.  Active will be put in parenthesis(braces) beside their name in the side bar.

Dead characters will be shown in red.  Dead will be put in parenthesis(braces) beside their name in the side bar.

A dead character will be shown in yellow when their player is active.

I'm almost done the first post, Pia is either gonna love me or hate me on how I introduce her character, or at least the position she's in , and I just noticed there is only one woman in this, is this island in Greece?

EDIT: I see that there are 2 ladies, I didn't see Johny boy's cuz it wasn't part of the other group.
