After the success met with 7 Deadly Sins, I'm thinking about a new excercise in the same conditions. The general theme would be: The Ten CommandmentsI'd like to have your opinion about it. Would it be a good idea? Michel |

If you want an honest opinion as long as it isn't yet another "dark" series of scripts it'd be a good idea.

I would actually be up for this. Only reason I wasn't able to participate in the Sins series was because of exams...
But yeah, either way I'll do a dark kind of story. Hope it goes ahead! |

My only problem is the choice of the commandments. They're rather out of date. The other problem is that the seventh and the tenth are quite similar.
Quoted Text SEVEN: 'You shall not commit adultery. TEN: You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife. |
This time, it would be about 10 pages. Michel |

Maybe a little too similar to the last one? Why not use the Seven Dwarves from Snow White as your theme?

I always thought it'd be interesting to do an exercise where everyone is given a list of things (like a plot, a couple characters, etc), and then they write the script, however each one takes a different genre.
That way you'd see how different each person's path would be, even though they're working from the same stuff. |

Well, no. The OWC picks a genre for you that you need to adhere to. I mean, the different takes on a similar theme is the same as the OWC, but I think it would be neat switching up the genres. |

Isn't there a lot going on right now though? We just did this one and then there's the SoulShadows series and the new Killer/Thief games and I think there will be another OWC in July... Just don't won't to cause burnout is all. |

Yes...projects will frequently take turns. Something like SoulShadows will step aside a bit and let something like "7 Sins" play out, for example. Why start another so soon? At the very least, give yourself longer than a week. Most of the "sins" scripts would have benefitted from a deadline that was not so arbitrarily rushed. |

I wasn't agree to give a deadline for the sins. But it was requested by some entrants. |

We should be careful not to flood the boards with all the organized writing assignments. People need time to write their own thing; too many group things can result in less entries in them.

Hey everyone, Why not have another exercise? It seems to me that the ones who are busy wont volunteer their time anyway and those of us that are working on becoming better writers through such works benefit.
By the way, Michel, the pig flu reference was funny on the seven list.
Postpone it if you want, but I think the only thing holding it back is the reservation being displayed here by the powers to be.
I like the idea of these writing series even though I might not be a mainstream (or even liked) writer. They still help me to expand my abilities.
Sign me up if it is a go, and if you want me.

I don't think it was a bad idea, just too many things going on at the same time. That tends to dilute interest and everyone loses due to fewer reads. Just MHO though. |

Got it. After all, we'll have plenty of time to make exercises. I currently thinking about one where certain situations and certain words would have to be included. The theme will be free, but with those compulsory elements. And I keep the ten commandments aside. Michel |

Your ten commandments one isn't a bad idea, and just because adultery seems to be widely accepted doesn't make it any more right than it was then. After all, it amounts to a broken promise.
Coveting isn't the same either. Adultery refers to an act, just as stealing is a specific act. Coveting is the building of the desire in one's heart prior to committing the act. It's sort of like the planning stage, but as opposed to just wanting, it refers to an intense desire to possess. As it applies to a neighbor's wife, it could refer to stalking.
Just thought I'd throw that out, since covetousness gets no rap at all since a lot of people don't even know what it means.
As for out of date, that depends on your opinion of them. It's a very religiously based set of rules, and the one about the Sabbath is the only one not actively practiced due to New Testament teachings overriding it. Anyone tackling one of the first three would have to have a solid idea of what they're doing with them since they're all about God. |

Ten? Only? If there were his most dreadful errors, I don't think there would be enough writers on SS to write about them all... |
