Slugline caught my eye, but exposition in the first page killed it for me.  Just letting you know  when I stopped.   Action not dialogue.  All the best!  Rework it as the first pages are good. Keep at it.

First off: I definetely think you have a good story behind the formatting issues. With a lot of work it could be really good.
That said, I'll comment on the first couple of pages, because I don't have much time.
You need a Title page, if you google it you'll find how to set the page up.
There should be a smaller gap between scene headings and scene action.
Dillon's description should be in the first scene when he is first introduced and by visually who he is, eg: DILLION, 28, sullen, oppressive, stricken by illness. (just suggestions - I don't know how you envision him)
"--" is only used in series of shot/montage eg:
MONTAGE
    --EXT. HOUSE - DAY

or when speech is interupted by another character. eg:
       DILLION
What happens now? Are there--
       DOCTOR LYMAN
We're not sure how long you have.

I'm sorry I can't offer more right now. Hope this helps.

Excellent script. I just wanted something  short to practice my acting with. Wound up reading the whole thing in one sitting Never been to this site before. I had to know what was going to happen. That says a lot about your script. Actually, it says everything about your script. It's one of the best movies I've ever seen and it really moved me. Some ommitted words and type-o's. I have a good batting average when it comes to predicting and detecting talent. In the 70's I was watching a new unknown sit com and accurately predicted it would be one of the most successful TV shows of all time. It was All in the Family, which ran for 9 seasons and at one time ran at number one. I was watching a movie. I didn't know what it was or who directed. I commented that the director was a genius. It was Rosemary's Baby, Roman Polanski. So, if I say you're good, your good.

By the way, as far as formatting. There is a free program that does all that for you. It's called Celtx and it's free. Don't know if that's elementary for you, but thought I'd tell you in case you haven't heard of it.
