This is kind of a strange new element to challenges where you have to say you are in before you even know what the complete topic is. I kind of follow from an elbow distance. I'm working on other things, but if a topic hits me, I might enter for fun. For the recent OWC, I received comedy, and I wasn't really into doing a comedy. No big deal, I just stayed out. Is this the new thing though? For some reason you have to commit beforehand, and not everyone gets the same assignment? I'm not complaining, please don't think that. I respect however people want to run it. It has the effect of pushing me from elbow distance to arm's length though...so everyone misses out on my crappy scripts! Good luck though!

I just wanted people to let me know if they were participating so I would know. No real reason beyond that.

And everyone will receive the same two sub genres.

~Zack~

Sorry Zack this threw me at first. We will all get the same random sub genres? Won't that mean so many, say, zombie ones and another genre and nothing else? I was of the impression you would draw out random for the list and we get a choice from the 2.

I'm 30,000 words into a novel. And I'm in the early stages of a biopic script that I'm thinking of entering in Nicholl's. So I don't want to commit to challenges...but I do have fun with them. So basically I like to see the topic, and if an idea hits me, run with it.

But seriously, I'm not upset about it, just giving feedback. You're doing great, Zack! Building anticipation is important. You're an asset to the site, good luck!

I'm drawing two random sub-genres, of which you may chose from. If you like, you can combine the two sub-genres.

And to those who don't like that they have to commit before the sub-genre, I suppose I understand your complaints. If I ever get a chance to do another one of these I will drop that stipulation. For this one, if you are interested in joining just PM me. If you don't like either of the sub-genres I draw, there is no penalty for backing out.

In January, this obligation to register was new and I didn't like it even then… let's see what it will be in April.

Back in the days, I found and joined simplyscripts only because of its openness of the OWC.

Whatever, have fun :-)

Can't get more reasonable than that.

If you send Zack a pm that you will take part, he won't hold you to it and demand you participate. So, what's the loss? You're not going to get some kind of penalty if you don't write something.

I told Sean I was taking part in the Jan OWC, but TOO much stuff was going on in my life at once, so I was not able to. I sent Zack a pm telling him I'm game, but I still have a LOT going on, including a granddaughter due any minute, so who knows...

C'mon people. Zack is doing the SS community a favor here.

I'm weirdly excited for this considering 'horror' was never my thang. But this seems cool and it can't hurt to get out of one's comfort zone.

If anything it will show if we as writers can REALLY roll with the punches in the writers room.

I actually think I'm the only one rooting for Giallo and torture porn.

Oh well.

Good on Cactus Disco!!!

I do agree with my old mate, Stevie, though, in that if it's...let's say zombie, an awful lot of zombie scripts will be painful, at best.

Wish it was random for each person who is in, with a choice of two, or a combination of two.  That would make for alot of great rads and a tough challenge.

I'm in, either way.

Happy Valentine's Day to all you Valentines out there!!!
