Yes, they keep incredibly detailed breakdowns, not only by standard genres, but by mixed genres and those harder to define.

Two of last year's finalists made the black list. I recommend Devil's at Play, which is about an aging member of the Soviet secret police in the 1930s. That one is pretty standard in structure and form, but the story pulls off a pretty original trick in that it almost has you rooting for something terrible because you are so sympathetic to the protagonist goal.

This will be my first year entering the Nicholl and I'm stoked. In fact, I wrote my entry with this contest in mind. Shawn.....><

If you're entering 'Cosmic Justice'?? I'll be crossing my fingers for you Shawn. It should do very well...if it doesn't they need their heads read!

The Nicholl is a terrible contest. Teeeeerrible! I recommend none of you enter.

I've made the qfs so many times, I actually find myself worried that advancing will ruin my streak. My goal at this point isn't even to win anymore, it's to set the record for the most scripts to make the qfs.

Just kidding of course. The Nicholl is great. I wish everyone who entered the very best!

Thanks Libby.

As several people advised, I changed the name...

It's now LETHAL CONSEQUENCES

Jeff gave it a read yesterday and found a couple of small things only Jeff could find and she's now about as polished as I can get it.

Thanks again for all your help.

Bring on the competitions.

if Jeff only found a couple things wrong then that's about as good as it's ever gonna get.  Although, and forgive me for saying so but the title...ugh.  It's way too "on the nose" and sounds like a B-movie.

You should take a poll and get a better title, IMO.   Sorry, Shawn, I just had to say it.

Shawn, how about

DOUBLE JEOPARDY.

Assuming the concept still is the same, this fits. (No, it has nothing to do with Final Jeopardy. That's the game show.)

Double jeopardy...well, you know what it is.

That's been done, Kevin.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0150377/

He needs something totally original.   I suggest "Odium"   Or better yet, "Depravity"

He should just start another thread.  "Name Shawn's Script" thread.

Mike, Kevin,

Thanks guys! I apperciate your honest input.

Actually, I've had a harder time naming it than I've had writing it.

For those who've read it, I'm all in for a sugestion on the title of my screenplay.

I don't know how a poll could be set up and I'd hate to hijack this thread, so if anyone has a suggestion on that as well, I'd love to hear it.

Btw...Mike, I was amazed at how few things Jeff had to bietch about regarding it. Usually he's up my A$$ about all the issues I send to him.

The kinder, gentler Jeff. The orphanage is safe!

How about:

CRUEL AND UNUSUAL

or

HANDS OF THE EXECUTIONER

or

SENTENCED TO DEATHS

CRUEL AND UNUSUAL was one I thought about...

Until I looked it up to see if it had been used.

it was a documentary about Transgendered prisoneers.

Decided to pass.

The one I really like (and wanted to use) was -

WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU.

But again, it's been used...

SENTENCED TO DEATHS is pretty cool though...

I actually flirted with ...QUIETUS

To sleep...to rest...final destination.

Not necessarily.  Hollywood often recycles movie titles:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104132/?ref_=sr_2

If this title works best for the script, then use it.  It's not as if it's a trademarked name.

So it's okay to use a movie name eevn if its been used before?

Interesting.

I was in love with the title...WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU

It just fit the story perfectly.
