Not sure if anybody's been to the Bluecat site recently, but I received an e-mail from them today.

http://www.bluecatscreenplay.com/2014-call-for-entries/

They're accepting short screenplays this year and first place is $10,000, with 3 other Finalists receiving $1500.

They're upping their feature screenplay prize to $15,000.

It also seems that for every short entry, you'll automatically receive 1 feedback analysis at no extra charge, and 2 automatic feedback analyses for features.

I know Bluecat did a short screenplay contest last year, but I don't know how much 1st place was.

Anyway, I know a lot of us have some shorts lying around, (and some features, too, I'd imagine.)  Might as well start brushing them up now and see what happens.

I'm getting in on this..... why not.

I couldn't really do the 1+6WC or make that ScreamCraft contest because I had tons of school work and because my uncle died right around that period and things were getting really screwy and chaotic.  I have a few days open now to brush up one of my features and work on a short.

I've had a short lying around for quite some time, that I think I could submit for this, I'm totally going to go for it, what have we got to loose?

Do they take applicants under 18, or outside the US?

No information to say that they don't.

As long as the script is in English, and between 5 and 40 pages for a short, and 75 and 125 for a feature, you're good.

Thanks, Eoin.

Yep.  I'm back on my feet.  My back feels pretty good, actually, although I'm still not allowed back to work yet.  They keep giving me dates when to go back, then keep postponing them.

I've definitely been making good use of the time between the kids and writing until then, though.

•Early Promo ($55 Entry Fee): Entries must be postmarked or received electronically on or before June 15th, 2013.
•Early Deadline ($60 Entry Fee): Entries must be postmarked or received electronically on or before September 1st, 2013.

What's the difference between promo and deadline?

If I was to submit right now, it would only be $55, right?
Do I have to pay another entry fee again later?

If you entered something now, it'd be $55.

If you entered something else after the 15th of June, I'm guessing it'd be $60.

You'd only have to pay a second entry fee if you entered a different short/feature.

I think it said once you submit something, you cannot resubmit a revised version.

If you submit a script before October 15th, you can still resubmit another draft for it by November 15th for $40 and receive another analysis for that one, also.  The new draft takes the place of your old one.

There's only a $5 difference between each of the deadlines.  Most contests I've seen are $15 differences, if not more.

Promotional deadline:  June 15th for $55
Early deadline:  September 1st for $60
Regular deadline:  October 15th for $65
Late deadline:  November 15th for $70

Hey Reef.

I entered a couple shorts before the August 1st deadline for feedback by Sept. 1st.  I might enter a new feature if I get it done by the final deadline, but I'm not going to rush it.

Were you impressed with the prizes, or were you impressed with the quality of your feedback?

Actually the feedback. Prizes are good as well but for the fee etc I didn't expect much. Also nice when they like what you've written, although I think someone pointed out they tend to be favourable.
