Everyone's seen this, right?

It's free, and you just have to email Carson Reeves (Scriptshadow) with a pitch.  I'm sure the competition will be crazy, but if you've got something perfect- then why the HECK NOT?!?

Thanks. Despite my feelings on other competitions, after reading the rules, I'm going to give this one a bash. I'm half way through something right now that suits this perfectly.

My thoughts exactly Dustin, and nothing to lose with the way they've set it up!

Seems like good times, but I've found out relatively recently that I can't pitch very well. Given the fact that he's more about interesting characters than a quality story (not knocking him, that's just a trend of what he's about), there's no room for me in this one. However, I'm going to be pulling for all you guys. I want to see someone from Simplyscripts win that. Get that option, guys. =)

Entering competitions isn't something I do... but a FREE competition I can't pass up.

I'm entering.  Screw it.

Is that a part of your pitch?

Carson will only accept 250 scripts into this competition. He will pick those 250 based on your --

a. The title of your script.
b. The genre of your script.
c. The logline of your script.
d. A pitch of why your script should be selected for the contest up to 300 words.
e. A PDF attachment of your screenplay.

In other words, he will not read your script unless the title, logline, genre and pitch intrigues him.

And no, I'm not entering.

I've never done a "pitch" - so what the heck - a good time to practice. This seems like an interesting approach to contests.

Yes.  Yes it is.

Jokes aside, the pitch goes a little something like this:

Imagine if the Amityville Horror met up with The Shining in a bar and after a wild night of drinks ended up in a steamy love affair that culminated in the birth of Orphan, who then went on to meet Steven King and they had a baby known as Child's Play.

That's what my script is.  The thrills of a Steven King story with the chills of Amityville thrown in with the psychological aspect of The Shining and revelation of Orphan... and there's a China doll in it that may or may not be alive.

Then there's the added bonus of an additional spice to mix up the plot a little to keep it from being another cliche horror story.

I'll also throw in a joke or two for good measure.

Great idea, Lee.

I'm going to try the old 'free access to a ball-sucking hooker' pitch. I've found that it can bypass the need for shit like CVs, portfolios and even whole job interviews. I shouldn't really be sharing this... but, simply send a picture of said ball-sucking hooker and agree upon a fixed term, duration and any optional extras in the 'contract' and... that's about it. Sit back and wait for the 'you got the job' email.

Don't get stealing my idea, I've called dibs on it.

Strong with you the sarcasm is, Dustin, lol.

Truth be told, I don't really "ship" myself all that much, so I have zero concept of what I'm getting into here.  I couldn't pitch at a baseball game.

Actually, that's a lie.  I can pitch an idea if I want to pitch an idea.  I just can't be asked most of the time, which is unprofessional, I know.

Good luck, if you're entering anything.  May the best writer excel where others fall.
