International Award: THE JOPLIN
Best Feature Screenplay from outside the USA, Canada or the UK
$2,000 Prize

Do you have to live outside those countries or just be a citizen of another country?

@Angry Bear Mr. Blonde is correct in stating that you do still have to be residing in that country to be eligible.

If you have more questions please feel free to ask and I will respond as soon as I can. You can also check out our FAQ page: http://www.bluecatscreenplay.com/faq/ or email us directly at info@bluecatscreenplay.com.

Screenplays that have been submitted to any competition or contest prior to November 15th, 2012 are not eligible.

Screenplays uploaded or posted online to the public are not eligible.

Wow - you all really need to get your act together. This would mean virtually every script on this site is ineligible let alone other sites like this one. So - everything on the Blacklist - nope?? Are you kidding?

The 2012 requirement is inane. So if you had previously entered a script and then did the work of rewriting it - you're screwed if it isn't in with three years?

Someone has lost their senses over at Bluecat.  Nicholls and Page don't have these restrictions - egads. This will be an easy "never again" for me.

I'm so glad you said this, Dave.

What if my Mum and Dad read my script and showed it to a friend of a friend who's a Producer - is that ineligible? Hang on I won't tell...

All the restrictions seem very odd. If it's an amateur script and not produced it should be eligible.

Admittedly, that does seem a little odd, especially since you can have it pulled while it is entered into a contest. Still, the rules are the rules.

Exactly - also, can you imagine if you paid them for their feedback for three years and kept improving it based on that feedback -  in the 4th  year it is no longer eligible - egads

To Bluecat: I have entered before. I will never enter this competition again for these two inane rules you have:

1.Screenplays that have been submitted to any competition or contest prior to November 15th, 2012 are not eligible.
2. Screenplays uploaded or posted online to the public are not eligible.

Rule # 1 is ridiculous. You are telling writers that scripts that they have worked on to improve over several years are not eligible if they happened to have submitted them in competition. Won't sense does this make??? Are you trying to LIMIT the number of entries?

Rule # 2 is even sillier. Almost everyone on this site has posted their scripts here and I assume are therefore ineligible. Why would you bother to advertise on a site that by it's very nature is full of ineligible scripts?

Because we're their target market. And lurkers too. I had an entry last go, one that received high praise from the reader. Didn't advance. Did it get disqualified? Who the heck knows...

The indie guys are usually fine with it, but Hollywood like to get ideas that haven't been seen by anyone else. They want that exclusivity.

Hey, we're writers. We write or should be writing all the time. I don't think any of us should write one script for 4 years. 4 months is a long time to me. I can do two in 4 months.

So it's not all that bad. Simply send in a script (if so inclined to enter) that is completely new.

I do wonder though how much Bluecat has stolen from its customers' ineligible scripts. Perhaps it is the customer's fault for not reading the rules, but I wonder how much has been garnered from the re-entries.

I think Dustin has a good point, I wonder how many customer who enter use sites like SS and S32 to get script feedback by posting their scripts, making them ineligible and then submit to Bluecat... Doubt Bluecat check either, I wonder what would happen if one that had been on here won?!?

Not reading the rules would be my fault for sure, but a little transparency is always welcome if that's the case.

Customers never read rules, or terms and conditions etc and in this particular case it's an odd rule as already stated... and I think it's unique, not aware of anyone else who has that rule...

I also wonder where the line is on extracts? I posted 20 pages of a feature of mine on S32, but the whole script hasn't been made public... no idea if I can or can't enter it now...

I don't disagree that writer's should be writing all the time. Yes, they have an absolute right to make their own rules.

That doesn't make the rules any less inane.  Nicholls doesn't have these rules, nor does PAGE, Scriptapoolza, etc. As a note, the "screenplay cannot have been publicly posted..." is a new one - it did not exist in 2014.

The what has BlueCat garnered question is certainly an interesting one,

as some one who likes competitions i don't worry too much about this stuff

yes that rule about pre posting is stupid - didn't stop me getting to the finals with a short posted here and elsewhere. not sure they bother checking up. indeed where would they?

I accept it may be more an issue with features, shorts are of little worth so probably of little concern

if in doubt , change the name/title and logline, even if a little. the script is then different.

as we have discussed in many threads the chance of ever getting something noticed, in a serious way, is very slim. if you feel competition success will help your cause then give it a go, but still accept even if you win, its a hard world out there.

Matias won Page - the whole damn thing - and is an amazing writer. i really hope he goes places but it would still be a massive struggle for that to happen.

i like competitions for the thrill and challenge - scratches an itch on my ego i suppose. Thats fine by me.

all the best
