Kevin Revie's serial THE A-LIST is a good first effort from someone of his age, so I don't think that the public execution was deserved ... but I profitted from popcorn sales, so it's all good.
Yeah, his A-List and even Seventeen weren't all that bad, so we didn't string him up for the scripts he wrote. It was those horrible sockpuppets. As I recall, he was given away the first time by using an e-mail address at the bottom of the first script he submitted, which was different from the e-mail address in his "KevenRevie" profile. He was called on it ad the game was "afoot."
Please forgive the lateness of my reply. Weekend was somewhat hetic, half of which went by like a blur...
Anyways, on to those who stopped by and said hi...
Before I go on, I just want to answer Andy's question: You can call me Memphis Raines, or just Memphis, or if you're nasty... Mr. Raines Whichever is cool with me. And yes, I've started reading some of your Goonies script, actually I got to the part where Data is having his bachelor party. I don't know why, but having them sing and dance along to Salt and Peppa's 'Push It', had me feeling kind of embarrassed for those dudes...lol So far so good though, and hopefully I'll get done reading it soon.
Now onto more of the peeps who stopped by and made a dude feel welcomed!
Alan Holman - Pleasure to meet ya, sir. I am familiar with your Banana Chan series, as I see it pop up from time to time on the site. I remember giving one of your scripts of the series a quick skimming. Having not been a regular reader of your early works, I just didn't want to pick up in the middle then have to work my way back and forth between old and new stories... just cuz, y'know, I'm a lazy ass. Anyways, what little I did read though, I found that your dialogue moved rather smoothly. And your descriptions of characters were so vibrant and colorful. Plus, seeing as how when I try to write something funny, I fail miserably in the crash and burn sense, you seem to write cool sounding dialogue. And by cool sounding I mean that, when it's funny, it's funny. Thanks for saying hi, man
Bert - I see ya ditched Ernie... or just plain chopped his body into little bitty pieces and stuffed him into a trash can in a dark alley of Sesame Street somewhere.Perhaps giving his corpse over to Oscar the Grouch to eat, y'know, seeing as how he is a monster after all, who lives in a trash can. By the look of that pic, I can imagine a pissed off Bert saying, "Walk down the right back alley in Sesame Street and you can find anything." Thanks for stopping by and saying hi, Bert. And yes, I'm also somewhat familiar with your writing. And I have to say, your short story 'Someplace Nice and Dark' is one of the finest scripts I have ever read on here! Having read the responses you got for it, forget about what people say when they tell ya that your line "... a fresh testament to abandon dreams and quiet desperation.", doesn't belong. It works wonderfully, yo! It helps to paint a more clear picture, or actually, helps to set the mood of the setting more better than actually describing the whole location. Sure, you can probably type your little heart out with descriptions, but that line just sums up the whole feel of the setting much more better! Hell, even Tarantino has lines like that in his script! Read 'Pulp Fiction' and see how he describes the backroom of Maynard's basement, regarding the fate of some unlucky bastid who had the misforturne of crossing paths with Maynard and Zed. Wonderful work in setting the mood. Anyways, I look forward to reading more stories of yours, Bert. And perhaps, when your back is turned, hitting you over the head with a shovel and drilling into your skull, so that I may hook up a tube and tap into the creative pool of yours, bleeding you dry untill your nothing more than a skeleton with skin hanging off of your bones
George Wilson - Pleasure to meet you as well, sir! Your pet project sounds rather interesting. Hell, if it has to do with vampires, I'm there! Don't know who Kevin Revie is, but I'm glad he survived his public execution. Last thing we need is some ghost haunting this place...actually, thinking about it, it would sort of be cool to have a ghost writer among us
Dogglebe - Interesting name, sir. Pleasure to meet you as well! That shameful plug of yours was shameful indeed. However, curiosity is getting the better of me. Whatever Tocsin is, I guess I'll soon find out. Was gonna break out my sock puppet, but thanks to your warning, I best leave Hitler, the cutest sock puppet the worlds ever known, in his resting place... for now...
Curse aka Sasha - Thanks for the welcome, man! Pleased to meet ya as well, young sir. Being a fan of j-horror myself, 'Tale of Two Sisters' and 'Kairo' being among my favourites, it's nice to meet another person on here who shares the same interest in horror as I do. Something about the way horror movies from Japan slowly build up tension in their movies is what I find interesting! It's cool to see how America handles the remakes of those movies. Hated the remake of The Ring, but loved the original - Ringu! And I just realised, 'Tale of Two Sisters' is actually Korean. Oh well, a wonderful movie nonetheless! If you got a story that you would like me to read, Sasha, just give'er on over to me and I'll have a looksie. Cool? Cool. Again, a pleasure meeting you, man!
Wow... got kind of carried away with my responses, didn't I? Oh well, if you guys took the time out to say hi, I just wanted to return the favour and say hello back Once I do get something finished, I'll defintely post it on here! But for now, if any of you have a story for me to read, do like Dogglebe did and send me a link. I'm interested in seeing more, or anything each of you wrote. Thanks!
By the way, the line 'but I profitted from popcorn sales', cracked me up! That was funny, man!
Anyways, you cats stay cool. I'll check in again later...
It's time to prove to your friends that you're worth a damn. Sometimes that means dying, sometimes it means killing a whole lot of people...
"Bert" is actually short for "Robert". It actually has very little to do with Ernie. I think just about everybody is missing that...
"Two Sisters" confused the hell out of me. I have been hyping "The Untold Story" to Curse, so I guess I'll hype it to you, too. It's a very straight-forward slice of nastiness. I really dug it, anyway.
And Bert, all one has to do is read the title page of one of your scripts to see your name is Robert and make the connection. That's about all it took for me to think, "Oh, he's not just being cute with the name...he really is Bert. I really must ask what it's like to have Frank Oz's hand up his-"
What are you talking about? His scripts are good for his age. I don't know or care about anything to do with sock puppets; it's totally irrelevant. Just because you use a sock-puppet in your avatar doesn't mean that no one else can. If that's what you're giving him a hard time about, get a life.
Alan, we're referring to instances of the violation of Rule 10a. We're calling those extra names sockpuppets since you tend to have one primarily and then go ventriloquist with the others. Nothing to do with avatars...
And by the way MEMPHIS -- thanks for mentioning Banana Chan! Until it gets produced, if it's not mentioned, in a positive light, at least once per day, I have ... well ... emotional problems. So thanks!
Alan, Kevin came up with the Stifler 'sockpuppet' and kept writing mindless praise to himself, keeping his work on top of the discussion lists. For the most part, he was the only one contributing to these discussions. And Kevin's work was the only work that Stifler praised.
In regards to my avatar being the only sockpuppet on the board, that was just a joke.
Being a fan of j-horror myself, 'Tale of Two Sisters' and 'Kairo' being among my favourites, it's nice to meet another person on here who shares the same interest in horror as I do.
LOL! I have Kairo on dvd! I didn't know anyone else had heard of it!!! I thought it was rather creepy, but my sister hated it.
Thanks for checking out my script, you didn't have to by the way. I just think it's cool you're a fan, as it seems to be myslef, Goonie17/Zane and a couple of others who love that movie here.
Ok, I'll admit that I've watched and enjoyed The Goonies on several occasions, and I even palyed and finished the Nintendo game, Goonies 2 (decent game for its time). I can't remember the first time I saw, whether it was during its first run release, or on VHS from the video store. I think we taped it off of TV once when I was younger. I can still hear Cyndi Lauper singing in my head.
Call me a closet fan as I am with so many movies, but I am not a fanatic about it...then again, I'm not much of a fanatic about anything. Ok, Bond maybe...
Awe, George, I love you I am so glad you came out to me about Goonies
I have never played the game but my friend has the full size arcade game in his garage, must be worth a fortune.
Cyndi ROCKS btw!..."Good enough, for you it's good enough, for me it's goooooood enough, it's good enough for meeeee, a-ay-ya-ya-ya-yaaaaaaaaa"!!!!LMAO! Sorry, couldn't help myself...
This is probably going to annoy you, as it does most Bond fans, but I thought Roger Moore was the best
This is probably going to annoy you, as it does most Bond fans, but I thought Roger Moore was the best
Oh no Andy! While we will always agree on the Goonies, I am going to have to go against you on this one. Sean Connery was and always will be the BEST James Bond! He is the true super-pimp, even to this day!
"You know what? I don't think I care for you rationale." - Clerks
Each of the 5 to date who have played Bond have had their strengths. Roger Moore was probably the most appealing just due to the wit he brought to the part.
Brosnan was probably the most suave at the part and kept some of Roger Moore's wit (but thankfully not all of it).
George Lazenby wasn't Bond long enogh to develop much into it, but he did a good job on his one outing, not to mention getting one of the best movies.
Sean Connery was the first and probably one of the most accurate Bonds we've had, probably mostly due to Ian Fleming being on the set of the first two movies.
Timothy Dalton portrayed Bond very well in my opinion primarily because he had a cold, git-r-done attitude. I think his accuracy on how Bond would conduct himself was very spot on as well.
Those're my opinions. I like them all for different reasons, and I still watch all the movies - even the crappy ones.
