So I go into hiding from the boards, hoping to come back to showcase my new script. As I get about halfway through the script, the HDD on my laptop just goes kaput. And apparently I never bothered to copy my scripts onto my external HDD, which is exactly what I bought it for.

So everything's gone and I've got to rewrite everything and of course it won't be the same... Plus my laptop is dead and I can't play any games, because this computer I'm using sucks.

I feel your pain... I feel your pain. Trust me. I went thru the same thing. Lucky enough, though, did manage to get all my work back by busing my hard drive over to another... only after spending money to take it to best buy and have them burn it onto a disk, that I can't use.

Anyways... I'm saving everything, from now on. all the time. It don't matter what it is. If I can use it, or even think I can use it... It's saved.

I feel for you, though, man. I do. Re-writes are never easy... even more so when you don't have the material you want to re-write.

A friend of mine erased all his scripts one time and started over... all over. clean slate and all... He did manage to add to his work and make some of his stuff better... who knows, maybe you can too????

Ouch. Ouch. I had a laptop meltdown not long ago, luckily I saw it coming so I managed to save almost all my important stuff. I guess everyone has to go through this once, I know I certainly learned from my mistakes.

Anyway, good luck with getting your data back and/or rewriting your work.

I had the same problem but unlike you it was my fault because how can you blame a computer for your stupidity?

PS The first sentance of your post might have been why nobody read your script when it was finished anyway so look at the bright side, now you don't have to sit there and get mad that nobody is reading your script.

Yeah...I'm kind of with Wes on this one.  The computer thing sucks for anyone, and so you've got some sympathy there....

...but plenty of good writers responded to your plea for reads on "Beginnings" before you "went into hiding", offering up zilch in return.

Hey, it's my tiny, little IMDb!

Hey wait a second, you guys thought I left because of the replies to "Beginnings"? On the contrary, I was actually able to use the criticism to fix it and cut it down to about 22 pages. Of course it's gone with the new stuff I was doing, but yeah, definitely not what I was getting at by saying "went into hiding". I just left until I felt I'd really improved.

But when you leave you're not a member anymore of the community and that's why people would probably ignore your work more easily than if Bert were to post something tomorrow and be like "So, I need a read"

That's how a few of us feel, the ones who think differently are the ones who leave and expect the world when they come back... It's like we owe you something.

I could see that being the case. But I don't expect anything, if I have to start from scratch to build up my rep again then I will, no problem. No ill feelings intended.
