Pretty funny website that lists a bunch of the most common movie cliches.  Enjoy!

"The villain will almost always kidnap the hero's woman in an atempt to destroy the hero's heart and spirit, but instead it gives him the will to go on and ends up being the villain's downfall, or the woman he kidnaps will end up defeating him."

Guilty as charged!

So the next challenge, official or otherwise, will be to write something while avoiding every cliche in here...

My favourite is the cop who's two weeks away from retirement, or has just given his two weeks notice. You just know he's about to die.

My personal favorite is in horror movies, when they have the biggest house, they only have one phone.  And conveniently, it's a cordless.  Watch Scary Movie 3, they do a gag in there about that.  That's really when i first realized that.

That is probably the most hilariously true statement on teh face of the earth.  Watch the movie "Colors."

I like how aliens always seem to speak subtitled English.

I'm actually about to write a Sci-Fi movie.  I might have to avoid this.

Here is a related thread, in the same vein, that ended up being pretty amusing:

Yeah, I've thought of writing a script using every known cliche. I was going to call it "The Cliche Kid". However, it never got past the idea stage.

Lol that would be fun! Or like each person on the simply scripts board should right an episode for a series using a certain number of cliches, and yet, have a decent plot.

And then whatever was killing them, chasing them, etc., slowly walks behind them at a certain distance and pulls out a knife.

What about when the protagonist unknowingly jumps into a cab, driven by "gulp"...the antagonist.

I recently caught myself writing that into one of my scripts.

Needless to say (but I’ll say it anyway) it didn’t survive the first edit.

"Villans will always explain their plan, in its entirety, to the hero before leaving him in an easily escapable situation with an incredibly incompetentguard, or no guard at all."

"When the hero is taking on a barrage of the villian's henchmen, they will attack him one at a time."

Haha!  So true!  Why do they do that?

That was actually stated very blatantly just like that in the first Austin Powers film of Mister Evil's plan to kill Austin Powers.

"If there happens to be a high-rise building in an action/disaster film, you can always expect an oblivious Hispanic janitor listening to salsa on his headphones."

This one made me laugh out loud.  Now, I must poop.
