I played Dungeons & Dragons for over thirty-five years. It was a great social gathering, like bowling, except your killing ogres instead of bowling. Though I haven't played it in a few years, I still have most (if not all) of my books and dice stashed away.
All those people that play Runescape should play D&D or read a book or write a story or play Magic: The Gathering or something. Those things at least exercise the mind (even if they are nerdy).
I dunno. Runescape is less interesting than using MSN for social banter, as far as I'm concerned.
I played Magic: The Gathering when I was in the Army. I spent WAAAAAY too much money on those stupid cards. I recently gave my entire collection of probably 4000 cards (from 1994-1995) to my sister. Probably could have sold thme if I wanted to take the time to do so, but my sister is a freshman in college and will probably know people who she can play with and impress with her 3rd edition cards (I think they're up to 8th or 9th now).
I use to play an MMORPG called Myth of Soma and the best thing I ever did was give it up, it was a personal epiphany. I felt released. I was saved by Philosophy and Film, which in turn lead to script reading, and now writing. What can you achieve through playing Runescape? Very little, if not nothing, in my opinion. Soma, as we called it, damaged my school work and, in part (I believe), my chance of getting into Cambridge Uni (and I didn't even play it that much!). In fact, I count myself lucky at having any good offers now.
Of course that's just my personal rant. But, if Runescape is just a game to pass time, I'd advise reading, writing, watching films... in fact, almost anything that isn't so repetitive.
